ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Anika Carpenter is a flash fiction author, workshop facilitator and artist with a background in the Fine Arts. Her fiction has been shortlisted for the Bath Flash Fiction Award and the Bridport Prize and has been published in numerous anthologies. You can find her stories at Gone Lawn, Ellipsis Zine, The Molotov Cocktail, Janus Literary and many more.

Anika received a Fine Art MA (distinction) with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from Kingston University in 2010. She spent ten years working as an assistant to Turner Prize winning artists. Anika's own artwork has been exhibited at Towner Gallery and featured in numerous group exhibitions. She is the co-founder of Accident & Emergence (currently on hiatus) an artist-led project that organised collaborations, exhibitions and retreats. 
Anika's ekphrastic story 'Interview with Alice Moore, Potion Maker' won Bath Flash Fiction Festival's Great Flash Off competition in October, 2022. You can read it by clicking here.

<li>You smile, get really excited and look for all Art materials that you thought had gone and set yourself up making sure the Floor is kept protected, preferably not too far from a TV screen that you could HDMI connect to your PC for the class so you may use an easel for example.</li>
<li>you book a class here on Cademy and write it down on your Diary after ordering bits you need online.</li>
<li>The days has come, you've installed zoom on your PC, connected the Tele to it, got your equipment ready, kettle nearby and cookies (OH no! sorry not those) and had a look at our latest drawings captured at classes at http://e.pc.cd/r7WotalK or on Google to feel inspired/create a plan. Then you'll connect at 6.25pm so we can let you in. Classes usually start at 6.32pm but you can drop in at anytime even 5 mins before the end.</li>
<li>The Teacher will tell you what he/she would do, look at, keep an eye on or the opposite the don'ts. Trying to get you to add tools to your Artist tool box that you will use more and more, quicklier and more automatically so you can develop other sides of your Art.</li>
<li>Maybe your Wifi goes bad, you received a job call or you just forgot, oh no! In this case you have nothing to worry about as you now know that you can draw at anytime from the recording.</li>
<li>You've drawn for 2 to 3 hours (as occasionally we get a new life model who want to audition at the end for an hour), you feel amazing, you forgot Everything so you'll then mingle with other similar minded participants showing your drawings and getting feedback and tips. Some days you may want to rush out or not show any drawings and all is fine.</li>

Inspired by Pop Art and the graphic design of protest art, Neon Knitting uses Dayglo yarns to create bold designs using simple techniques:-

<li>Combining open and raised effects to create bold patterns</li>
<li>Adding fabric to knitting</li>

The session includes a worksheet, knitting demonstrations, plus a PowerPoint presentation covering ways to create your fabrics, using simple mark making and basic silk screen printing.&nbsp; There will also be examples to inspire further exploration after the session.

Aimed at anyone with an interest in textiles and soft sculpture, the workshop examines the artistic potential of knitting.&nbsp; The emphasis is on creating experimental samples, rather than a finished piece, although techniques can be adapted to create a garment, accessory or household object.

Silk Shading has been taken to the next level with this contemporary design. Silk shading is the art of creating shading with threads. This technique is also called needle painting (peinture a l’aiguille)
We will begin by introducing the split stitch on the outlines of the design. In the second stage, you will be learning how to blend colour using short and long stitch.
In the second session, we will practise the stem stitch and satin stitch. A cluster of crystals will be added to create some depth and sparkle.
The completed design reveals a flower with pink petals and carefully applied crystals add to the effect of droplets allowing the design to “shimmer” or “glisten” in the light.
Homework in between both sessions is recommended to allow a smooth transition in the class. Finishing all the steps taught in the first session will be recommended. Stitching all the outlines of the design and finish the silk shading in the flower.

About the Course
Learn & master coaching tools and skills that help teams and systems, address intangible hurdles which lead to a lack of trust, conflict, unskillful communication and tribalism, towards teams/systems which are more collaborative & aligned whilst at work and at home. 
The Fundamentals of Organisation and Relationship Systems Coaching is a two-day course for coaching teams, as well as partnerships, families, and wider organisations, at the heart of which is Relationship Systems Intelligence (RSI™). 
During this course, you will gain insights into how to utilise RSI to address some of the common challenges that often afflict professional and personal relationships. You’ll learn to:
Increase your power and influence by tapping into the inherent wisdom of the team or relationship.
Build co-responsibility for both process and outcomes.
Establish boundaries and limitations, while focusing on common interests.

Beyond Emotional Intelligence (which is the relationship with self) and Social Intelligence (which is the interaction with others) lies Relationship Systems Intelligence (RSI™), where the primary focus shifts to encompass the entire group, team, or system.
RSI acknowledges the system or team as a distinct entity, facilitating the emergence of change through collaborative efforts and shared leadership. Each system or team possesses a unique identity, complete with its own personality, intelligence, and information that go beyond the individual components within it.
Relationship Systems Intelligence (RSI) operates across three distinctive tiers: the individual system (where we navigate our inner voices), the dyadic or pair system, and expansive large group systems. Each of these tiers forms a crucial leg of the relationship systems coaching framework. Proficiency in all three is imperative for effectively coaching complex systems.

Claudio will do a combination of different portrait poses for us to draw from. They will be short poses of 5, 10 and 15 minutes. There will be an experienced Art in the Park artist present who can offer advice if needed and will show artist inspiration but of course feel free to draw however you want.
At the end of the session, we would love it if you could stay and hold up your drawings so that we can see your work. Also we would love it if you emailed your finished artwork to studio.artinthepark@gmail.com or tagged us in them at @artinburgesspark on instagram or @artintheparktwt on twitter.

Join us for a FREE Tea 'N Chat with Textile artist and teacher LINDA HARVEY who talks about her work.
We are excited to have the immensely talented mixed-media textile artist Linda Harvey join us for our April Tea 'N Chat event. With over 25 years of experience in both teaching and creating, Linda brings a deep well of knowledge and a true passion for her craft. As the Head of Textiles at Archbishop Holgate's School in York and a dedicated member of York Textile Artists and The Society for Embroidered Work, Linda's commitment to her art is truly inspiring.
On the night, during the event, we will be running a mini competition to win one of Linda's new Books ‘INSPIRED BY YOU’ 100 Days of Textiles Art



Linda’s artwork is a mesmerizing fusion of rustic textures and innovative techniques. Drawing inspiration from her travels, she transforms photographs into expressive, abstract textile creations. Her work beautifully reflects her love for color and texture, incorporating elements such as hand-felted backgrounds, free-motion embroidery, intricate layering, and rust dyeing.

LINDA HARVEY  Textile Artist and Head of Textiles at Archbishop Colgate School, York

Linda studied Textiles and Surface Design at University Centre Somerset, graduating in 1994. She is a textile artist and Head of Textiles at a York secondary school and a member of York Textile Artists and The Society for Embroidered Work, which promotes and supports the best in stitched art worldwide.
The inspiration for her work mainly comes from the places she visits, taking photographs of anything that catches her eye. These photographs give a starting point from which her work evolves, often working on several pieces at a time, as she enjoys an expressive and experimental way of working.
Linda is inspired by rustic textures and the ageing process, drawn to anything corroded and tarnished and immediately seeing how it can be turned into a textile art piece. Colour and texture are the key elements in her work.



The Textiles Skills Centre Associates are a team of volunteers that manage the social media platforms and website, and offer support, mentorship and advice to textile teachers and trainees. We organise free resource networking events each month (Tea 'N Chat) and are always on hand to help and encourage when needed.

LOOKING FOR: ADULT FICTION, NON-FICTION

Liza represents a range of fiction and non-fiction. On the fiction side, she is looking for historical fiction that is well researched, immerses readers in the era, and looks at overlooked characters from the past, or perhaps gives a new spin on someone we think we know. On the literary and upmarket side, she is looking for novels infused with emotions that capture the human experience and make readers think. If your literary novel is something that A24 productions might turn into a movie, this is Liza’s taste.

When it comes to fantasy, she loves urban and grounded fantasy (no sci-fi please!), and is always happy to look at anything with a vampire, werewolf, witches, warlocks, fairies, and perhaps a sinister selkie or two. She is also very much looking for romantasy and is the best person at the agency to submit that too. For thrillers, send her anything set in an exotic location, high-concept, or things with a speculative twist. She loves when characters are put in situations she would never want to be in, and then they have to get out of it. Her recent favourite fiction includes: Notes on an Execution, Lady Macbethad, Hamnet, A Discovery of Witches, House of Earth and Blood, The Starless Sea, Piranesi, Our Wives Under the Sea, The Pisces, Such A Fun Age.

When it comes to non fiction, she is looking for books that teach her something new or reframe a topic from an alternative point of view. This can include cookery, pop science, and social history. Liza’s recent favourite non-fiction include: The Five, A History of Art Without Men, Messalina, The Authority Gap, Finding The Mother Tree, Cook This Book, Dessert Person.

Liza would like you to submit a covering letter, 1 - 2 page synopsis and the first 5000 words of your manuscript in a single word document.
