Ever wondered what all those switches and dials on your overlocker/serger do? &nbsp;Did you know that your machine is capable of so much more than just preventing fraying - it can create stretch seams and faux coverstitches and so much more! &nbsp;
We have a guest tutor Lindsey who has a wealth of experience and teaches online and in person to share her passion for stitching in stretch fabric and getting clothes to fit your wonderful body. &nbsp;(Or someone else&rsquo;s if you if you are generous enough to make for others).
Don&rsquo;t be scared as Lindsey will help you to understand your machine by learning to thread the machine from scratch. &nbsp;We will spend time playing with settings, tensions. &nbsp;You will be encouraged to make mistakes on purpose, you learn by your mistakes. &nbsp;
Once you are confident with what you can achieve with your overlocker we will end the session by making a small project for you to take away.
To participate you will ideally have your own overlocker to bring to the workshop. &nbsp;If you are yet to invest in an overlocker and would like to use the Pfaff Admire 1000 demonstration model please let us know when you book.&nbsp; If you can bring old T-shirts or other scrap jersey to practice on that will help. &nbsp;Alternatively bring your purse as we will have bags of scrap jersey to purchase.&nbsp;

Come and have a fun few hours at Stitching Kitchen and leave any overlocker fear behind. We will help you to understand your machine and gain confidence in using it. We  will teach you how to thread it from scratch. You will spend time playing with settings and tension. You will be encouraged to make mistakes on purpose - so that you can learn by your mistakes.  




What you will learn/achieve
Confidence in threading your overlocker from scratch
The main aim of the workshop is for you to make friends with your overlocker and leave feeling confident about what you can achieve with it
If you have time at the end of the session, you’ll have the opportunity to put your skills into practice and make a small project to take away

All materials that you will need for the workshop are available in Stitching KItchen’s fully equipped studio.
Basic sewing kit to use during the workshop.

What to bring

Overlocker 2 - Stretching your overlocker/serger skills

Join Lindsey for a half day session to create your own colourful and comfortable underwear. &nbsp;You can have a pair to match all of your handmade wardrobe. &nbsp;The Wonder Undies pattern is a comfortable and easy-sew underwear pattern. Once you&rsquo;ve tried Wonder Undies, you&rsquo;ll never go back!
There are briefs and shorts, both of which can be either low or high rise. Choose between elastic or jersey cuffs/bands to finish the waist and legs.
This pattern is designed for four way stretch jersey fabric and can be assembled using either domestic sewing machine or overlocker. &nbsp;As we will be using stretch and the pieces are a little fiddly this pattern is better suited to those who have some experience of sewing. &nbsp;
An overlocker/serger will create the neatest finish for some parts, but importantly, a sewing machine is all you need for all options. &nbsp;We have Pfaff sewing machines available for you to use in the sewing studio at Stitching Kitchen so you only need to bring an overlocker if you would like to use one.&nbsp;
As aways you will have a fun time in a supportive and inclusive environment, with a cuppa and cake to keep you going during the workshop.&nbsp;

What to bring

You will need approximately half a meter or four way stretch cotton jersey and fold over elastic or elastic lace trim if you wish.  You can also find our selection on line in Stitching Kitchen shop or you can buy on the day if you prefer. 

We have sewing machines and a limited number of overlockers so if you wish to use your own overlocker please feel free to bring it along.

Hannah has been crafting since she was a child, she loves textile art, making with fabric, thread and fibre. She teaches and shares her passion and skills in textile art, felt making and also dressmaking and quilting.
