The Three Legged stool making day takes each student through the process of making a small hardwood stool from start to finish. Stool making includes both spindle and faceplate turning techniques and gives each student a good understanding of the different tools and methods used for each. ( 2 students maximum )

Woodturning for Beginners: 2 Day Course

1 day beginners bowl turning courses run every Thursday throughout the year for up to 4 students. These courses have proved very popular and give each student a good grounding in all the basic techniques and skills. Every student will take home a couple of handmade items to be proud of.

Come and learn how to carve letters in wood. On the course you will begin by carving a date that is significant for you in roman numerals. I will supply the templates for this.

This pole lathing course has been carefully designed for those who would like to develop their craft skills working with traditional, sustainable materials in a stunning ancient woodland location. Don’t worry if you don’t have any previous greenwood working skills, we’ll guide you through the prcocess from start to finish. Whilst we’re certain that you’ll leave us with some great hand crafted items, you’ll also leave us with new found confidence and ability and an appreciation of the wondeful material that wood is. We’ll start the course by showing you how to safely use an axe. We’ll look at selecting your wood, splitting techniques and a variety of methods to cross cut the wood for the raw materials. You will be shown how to cleft greenwood and use an axe, draw knife and a shave horse to shape the wood. You will then get to use a traditional woodland pole lathe where students have turned dibblers, rolling pins, spirtles, honey drizzlers, chair legs and even potato mashers!! All of the materials you use are sustainably sourced from our own woodland in line with our management plan. About us and the venue: Jack Raven Bushcraft was founded in 2011 and we've been delivering bushcraft, craft and foraging courses since then from our 30 acre private ancient woodland on the Kent Downs in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Courses in the summer are held outdoors in our woodland camp complete with covered work areas, an outdoor kitchen and a composting loo. Courses in the winter are held in our workshop in a converted barn. What's included in the price? Turning tools, froes, draw knives, a selection of axes are all provided. The course is divided into 2 parts, the first part is theoretical which you have to complete before you come for your practical training, and the second one is a practical assignment. The practical assignment is done on the day which will be agreed upon course purchase. You will spend around 3-4 hours practising on a model in our venue in London E106RA. Will I require a model? Yes, usually 1 model is required. You need to supply your own model. Do I Need Experience Before Booking a Course? We’re pleased to offer courses to people with lots of different experiences. However, previous experience nor qualifications are not necessary if you would like to enrol on our Course. Certificate You will receive an end of course certificates which is accredited by the cpd group and allows you to work on public Machine(if purchased) You will have 6 months warranty from the date of purchase on the machine and 3 months on the handles.
