Yet eight out of ten women experience stress on how to get everything done, reach our potential and establish a work/life balance.</p>
<p>The program will cover areas of key relevance to women leaders and those who aspire to leadership positions. As women make their way toward top positions and centre-stage roles in both public and private sector organisations, companies are under increasing pressure to bolster their boards with independent 'heavyweights' and these are increasingly women.</p>
<p>Women bring a creative spark, intelligence, personality, professional ability and motivation to senior roles, but there are still constraints on career progression, both organisational and personal.</p>
<p>This fast-paced and highly interactive programme will consider some of these constraints and will discuss ways to address them.  It will be led by an international trainer and communications expert, a leading advocate for women's workplace issues.  A powerful and dynamic seminar, it will focus on communications, career planning and management and leadership development for mid-to senior-level women managers.  It will also cover some of the latest research findings from Europe and the USA regarding women in the economy and the contribution they make.</p>

Your Facilitator, Julie Robinson.
A corporate leader veteran turned facilitator and coach, Julie brings over 25 years of corporate experience to her leadership development, team development and coaching.




Having worked at Director level at an airline, financial services company, online gaming business and as a non-executive at a logistics organisation, Julie has extensive experience in directing global teams in the development of world-class products and services, leading change, and turning strategy into operational results.
Consequently, she understands the thorny challenges of leadership and developing high-performing teams. Also having made a number of leadership transitions, she has experience of the skills and values required when transitioning through leadership levels.
Julie was keen to share her learnings with other leaders and thirteen years ago moved into her coaching and development role. Since then, she has facilitated learning interventions for different size groups of leaders at different levels in a wide variety of business segments.

Chief Executive - Inverclyde Council






Louise Long is the new Chief Executive of Inverclyde Council starting on 20th September 2021. Prior to this, Louise was the Chief Officer and Corporate Director for Inverclyde Health & Social Care Partnership. Inverclyde is a fully integrated partnership and includes all aspects of social care and including Adults, Children’s and Justice Services.




 
Louise graduated in 1996 as a Social Worker and later gained a postgraduate qualification in Child Protection and Leadership. Over the last 20 years, she has been a senior manager in a variety of Council settings. 
 
Since 2002 she has managed Integrated Services as Manager of Addictions then obtained the post of Head of Children’s Services in South Ayrshire and Head of Children’s Services in Argyll. In 2016 Louise joined Inverclyde as Corporate Director. She was the Chair of the Programme Board responsible for building Greenock Health Centre on behalf of the Health Board.
 
Louise is committed to addressing inequalities and committed to improving the lives of the people in Inverclyde.







Joanna Killian
 
Chief Executive - Surrey County Council

Joanna was appointed Chief Executive of Surrey County Council in 2018. She has worked in partnership with the Council Leader, Tim Oliver, to modernise the council, building strong financial foundations and improving service quality for residents. Her focus on partnerships has enabled the council to contribute to a thriving Integrated Care System in Surrey, as well as building the to strengthen the economy, address the impact of climate change and tackle inequalities.

In June 2021, as part of the Government’s intervention of Liverpool City Council, Joanna was appointed by the Secretary of State as Local Government Improvement commissioner. Joanna currently holds this role alongside her SCC Chief Executive role. 

Prior to joining SCC, Joanna worked at KPMG, where she led relationships with local and regional government, advising clients on how they could transform their organisations, and work more innovatively with their customers and citizens. Joanna and her teams worked on innovative devolution and public service reform programmes. Joanna worked with top teams to rethink their strategic ambition and agree new approaches to address the challenges and opportunities that the public sector faces, including with a county council, as well as a group of health organisations. 

Joanna has more than 30 years’ experience in the public sector and has deep experience in delivering transformational change, cost reduction and service improvement. She has expertise in achieving improved outcomes through partnerships as well as across public sector systems. She has worked on leadership, governance and corporate reform programmes and is skilled in working in complex political systems. 

Joanna joined KPMG in 2015 from Essex County Council, where she was the Chief Executive for nearly 9 years.  

Joanna started her career in social housing and regeneration - she has deep knowledge and expertise in these fields. 
 
In her spare time, she is Chair of Trustees at St Mungo’s, a large national charity with a mission to support people who experience street homelessness and eliminate rough sleeping.











Sharon Kemp

Chief Executive - Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council





Sharon Kemp is Chief Executive of Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council and was appointed by Government Commissioners and the Council in 2016 to lead improvements which have seen powers return and a ‘Good’ Ofsted rated Children and Young People’s Services in both 2018 and 2022.
Dedicated to serving people and places, Sharon has worked within the public sector for over 20 years across community safety, neighbourhood management, community cohesion, performance, and partnerships. Sharon also has an Honours Degree in Public Administration.
Sharon started her career within the Greater Manchester Police Force and moved into Local Government with the advent of the Crime and Disorder Act. Since then, Sharon has worked in a number of local authorities including 6 years in Blackburn and Darwen in the Regeneration Department and two years at the London Borough of Haringey as Assistant Chief Executive. Prior to arriving in Rotherham, Sharon was the Assistant Chief Executive for People and then Strategic Director (Reform) at Manchester City Council. 
Since Sharon became Chief Executive of RMBC in 2016, Rotherham has made huge progress and remains committed to a journey of continuous improvement. This progress was recognised last year when Rotherham was awarded the Most Improved Council Award at the LGC Awards 2022. The judges unanimously agreed that ‘from a rock bottom position it is possible to rebuild the trust of the community through understanding, courage, and openness’. Rotherham Council continues to further improve as an organisation, having recently won the Public Sector Leadership Award at the Social Value Awards 2023 and the Public/Public Partnership Award at the LGC Awards 2023.




Karen Jones
Chief Executive - Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council
Karen Jones is the Chief Executive at Neath Port Talbot Council having spent the majority of her career in public service in Wales. Passionate about creating a great environment where people want to live, work and invest, Karen believes that people make the difference and is a strong advocate of collaborative working. While being the Chief Executive is her focus by day, Karen also enjoys the beautiful natural environment of Neath Port Talbot in her spare time, often to be found on hiking and cycling trails.
I joined Neath Port Talbot Council in 2002 and having held a number of different chief officer portfolios, I became the Chief Executive on 1st January 2021. I am passionate about creating an environment where people are proud to live and work and want to invest in our area. I believe that people make the difference and I am a strong advocate of collaborative working.
Prior to joining the Council, I was the Business Manager at Estyn and the Head of Corporate Strategy at South Wales Police. During my time at the Council, I have helped Social Services secure the best Joint Review outcome in Wales. I then led the Council’s corporate transformation programme, recognised by Academi Wales and APSE for the way in which we embraced systems thinking, to deliver better service performance at lower cost. In my last role, I led the Council’s work to embrace digital innovation, positioning us as an early adopter of the emerging Digital, Data and Technology model within Wales.
I am a graduate of the University of Wales, where I was awarded two masters degrees in Business Management and Human Resources Management and hold membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

About the Workshop:
The Insurance sector is a constantly changing sphere that calls for emerging leaders to adapt and grow in order to thrive and succeed. Janthana Kaenprakhamroy is the CEO and Founder of Tapoly, winner of Insurance Provider of the Year at the British Small Business Awards 2018 and winner of Technological Development at the European Business Awards 2021. Tapoly is a digital managing general agent (MGA) providing tailored commercial lines insurance to micro SMEs and freelancers. Tapoly also works globally, building end-to-end white-labelled SaaS solutions that utilise emerging technologies to connect insurers with their distribution partners across the world. Janthana was named Insurance Woman of the Year at the Women in Finance Awards 2021, was listed by Forbes as number 6 of the Top 100 Women Founders to watch and was named in the Insurance Business UK’s Elite Women List 2021 and 2022. Janthana is a chartered accountant and former internal audit director at top-tier investment banks.




Rachel Turk - Group Head of Strategy - Beazley
 

Rachel Turk is the Group Head of Strategy at Beazley PLC and a member of the Executive Committee. She is also a Board member of the Lloyds Market Association (LMA) and the London Market Group (LMG). Her role encompasses not only developing and delivering the group strategy at Beazley, but she also has overall responsibility for Responsible Business, Incubation underwriting (which is a central team working on solutions to currently uninsured risks) and Corporate Development.
Prior to her current role, Rachel led the US Directors & Officers underwriting team at Beazley, based in London. She was formerly an Equity Analyst at JP Morgan Cazenove and is also a qualified accountant.



Tracey Anderson - Head of Legal Retail and Life - Zurich

Tracey has a broad range of experience across the general insurance, life insurance and funds sectors having worked in (re)insurance all of her career. Tracey leads a team of lawyers supporting these areas of Zurich’s business and is a Board Director of Zurich’s Employing Entities in the UK.



Kirsten Mitchell-Wallace - Director of Portfolio Risk Management - Lloyd’s

Kirsten Mitchell-Wallace is the Director of Portfolio Risk Management at Lloyd’s, the world’s leading insurance market. She is responsible for setting and leading the strategy of the Exposure Management, Aggregation, Outwards Reinsurance, Pricing, Portfolio Analytics teams. This activity spans multiple areas from developing new accumulation scenarios for natural and man-made perils to building best practice frameworks for cat management and pricing, as well as setting standards and overseeing technical portfolio risk management in the Lloyd’s market. In her previous role as Regional Cat Manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa at SCOR, she was responsible for leading cat teams based in Zurich and Paris. Before this, she was Head of Cat Pricing and Methodology responsible for coordinating the development of SCOR’s own view of risk. She built on almost five years’ experience as a Senior Catastrophe Risk Analyst in Willis and two in model development for RMS, as well as two years as a risk management consultant. She is the lead author of “Natural catastrophe risk management and modelling: a practitioner’s guide”.


Kirsten has a PhD in Atmospheric Physics from Imperial College, London and a Masters in Meteorology from Reading University, as well as a degree in Chemistry from the University of Bristol. She also has an International Diploma in Risk Management from the Institute of Risk Management and a certificate in Coaching and Mentoring.

What Skills Do We Help Women in Construction Develop?
The skills we teach through our women in construction management courses are delivered through seven modularised sessions, each between three and three-and-a-half hours per session, with all sessions starting at 9:30 am via Zoom. An additional two hours per week is spent working on the online training assignments and leadership development plan. Each session will provide the education and information needed to establish yourself in your business. Here is more information regarding each session and the skills taught:


SESSION 1: SELF-LEADERSHIP & THE SECRET TO PERSONAL SUCCESS
Our first module is focused on setting course expectations and creating the right environment for learning. We’ll introduce the format and logistics, then discuss leading through turbulent times and how we can take control of ourselves, our thoughts, and our actions to lead growth. There is also a discussion on adult learning techniques and how leaders can leverage them to improve the effectiveness of their teams. We’ll also explore how turbulence and transition have changed how we manage and lead our teams.


SESSION 2: THE ROLE OF INTELLIGENCE WHEN LEADING
In this session, we’ll discuss the three levels of human intelligence and show how they each play in an individual’s performance and behaviors. Through two distinct mindsets, you’ll be shown how an individual’s motivational intelligence ultimately influences their emotional intelligence and intelligence quotient (IQ). Depending on which mindset a person operates under ultimately dictates their view of themselves, opportunities, and the work at which they will allow themselves to succeed. Finally, we’ll discuss switching your team to a growth mindset.


SESSION 3: THE PILLARS OF HUMAN PERFORMANCE
Completing this session will allow you to deconstruct the components that create a motivational intelligence growth mindset. Through discussion, you’ll see how most organizational challenges can be directly tied back to lapses in these components. We’ll review the leaders who’ve had the most significant influence on the meeting participants and shows the commonalities that make these leaders stand out. Lastly, we’ll introduce terminology, tools, and techniques that leaders can leverage to better coach and mentor their team.


SESSION 4: MANAGEMENT VERSUS LEADERSHIP: THE TWO CRITICAL AND CO-DEPENDENT SKILLSETS FOR CREATING TEAM SUCCESS
We’ll discuss the difference between a manager’s and a leader’s focus. The discussion focuses on the two most common management mistakes and how they undermine team culture and individual performance. The final debate focuses on the five critical best practices of excellent management, including clearly defining and communicating goals, creating alignment and buy-in, setting proper expectations, monitoring performance, and recognizing and rewarding performance. Our final portion will work to define what management is.


Session 5: Exploring and Defining Leadership: Dispelling the Myths that Surround It
Session 5 strives to define leadership. Building on this definition is a follow-up discussion regarding how people develop their leadership abilities. We’ll explore the underpinnings of what creates a successful leader. It also includes the importance of asking questions and active listening. We’ll review the five behavioral characteristics associated with motivational intelligence and how leaders can assess the relative strengths or weaknesses of the characteristics within their team. Lastly, we’ll explore great leaders’ five critical best practices, including communicating a compelling vision, modeling the correct behaviors, establishing a team culture anchored in responsibility, consistently building team confidence and self-esteem, and proactively coaching and mentoring.


SESSION 6: BUILDING A LEADERSHIP TOOLBOX FOSTERING ADAPTABILITY, RESILIENCE, AND COURAGE
We’ll provide information regarding tools and techniques that leaders can utilize to foster greater accountability and ownership win their teams. The Power Within will explore self-esteem’s critical role in the relative strength or weakness of a person’s motivational intelligence and adaptability in life. We’ll discuss how self-esteem has formed and how it will influence how a person interprets feedback in life. Lastly, we’ll explore levels of self-esteem and the associated behaviors of each.


SESSION 7: HELPING EMPLOYEES DEVELOP A HEALTHY PERSPECTIVE AND RESILIENT ATTITUDE
During the final session, we’ll explore self-esteem’s critical role in the relative strength or weakness of a person’s motivational intelligence and adaptability in life. We’ll talk about how self-esteem is formed and how it influences how a person interprets feedback. Finally, we’ll explore levels of self-esteem and the behaviors of each and the influence of comfort zones, and the tools that leaders can use to help people escape the fear of change.
