Scrum: Disrupting the Automotive Industry

By IIL Europe Ltd

Scrum: Disrupting the Automotive Industry Old-thought manufacturing teams gather requirements, design the solution, build it, test it, then finally deliver it to market. Today, in some automotive companies, the design portion can take three to twelve years followed by a build cycle of five to fourteen years. This means it is possible to buy a brand new car which represents a team's understanding of what the customer needs were twenty-four years ago! Using the Scrum framework, Joe Justice founded Team WIKISPEED, enabling a completely different pace of development. This all Scrum volunteer-based, 'green' automotive prototyping company, iterates an entire car every seven days. Learn how they use Scrum with Lean production methodologies to compresses the entire development cycle into a one-week 'sprint.' This and other IIL Learning in Minutes presentations qualify for PDUs. Some titles, such as Agile-related topics may qualify for other continuing education credits such as SEUs, or CEUs. Each professional development activity yields one PDU for one hour spent engaged in the activity. Some limitations apply and can be found in the Ways to Earn PDUs section that discusses PDU activities and associated policies. Fractions of PDUs may also be reported. The smallest increment of a PDU that can be reported is 0.25. This means that if you spent 15 minutes participating in a qualifying PDU activity, you may report 0.25 PDU. If you spend 30 minutes in a qualifying PDU activity, you may report 0.50 PDU.

Charity accounting refers to the specialized financial reporting and management practices used by charitable organizations to track and report their financial activities. It involves maintaining accurate records of income, expenses, assets, and liabilities, adhering to regulatory requirements, and ensuring transparency in financial reporting. Charity accounting aims to provide stakeholders, including donors, beneficiaries, and regulatory bodies, with a clear understanding of how funds are raised, managed, and utilized to support the organization's charitable objectives. Q2: Why is Charity Accounting Important? Charity accounting is essential for several reasons. Firstly, it helps ensure accountability and transparency, which are critical for maintaining the trust of donors and the public. Accurate financial reporting also enables charitable organizations to demonstrate their impact and effectiveness in achieving their mission and objectives. Moreover, complying with accounting standards and regulatory requirements ensures legal compliance and helps prevent financial mismanagement or fraud. Q3: What are the Key Differences Between Charity Accounting and Regular Accounting? While charity accounting shares many similarities with regular accounting practices, there are some key differences. One significant distinction is the emphasis on accountability to donors and the public in charity accounting. Charitable organizations often face stricter reporting requirements and scrutiny due to their tax-exempt status and reliance on public trust. Additionally, charity accounting may involve tracking donations, grants, and restricted funds separately to ensure proper allocation and compliance with donor intentions. Q4: What are the Challenges Associated with Charity Accounting? Charity accounting can present various challenges, including managing complex funding streams, complying with evolving regulatory frameworks, and accurately valuing non-cash donations or volunteer services. Additionally, charitable organizations may struggle with limited financial resources and expertise, making it challenging to implement robust accounting systems and practices. Furthermore, maintaining transparency while protecting sensitive donor information can be a delicate balance for charities. Q5: How Can Charities Improve Their Accounting Practices? Charities can improve their accounting practices by investing in staff training, implementing robust financial management systems, and seeking professional advice when needed. It's essential to stay informed about changes in accounting standards and regulatory requirements and to conduct regular audits to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement. Collaborating with other charities or seeking mentorship from experienced financial professionals can also provide valuable insights and support in enhancing accounting practices. Ultimately, prioritizing transparency, accuracy, and accountability is key to effective charity accounting. NEXT DATE:  This course is part of our new range of recommended CPD for HG therapists. We don’t currently have another date for it, if you are interested in attending please register here so we can let you know when one becomes available. Why take this course The numbers of people experiencing eating difficulties are hitting an all time high – in the UK, 1.25 million people are estimated to have a diagnosable eating disorder¹ with hospital admissions more than doubling from 10,318 to 22,000 in the four years between 2016 and 2020². The early stages (or ‘subthreshold’ stages i.e. when symptoms do not meet full diagnostic criteria for an eating disorder as defined by the DSM-5 or the ICD-11) have been identified as a critical period for preventing progression of an eating disorder³. However, stigma directed towards those experiencing eating difficulties that aren’t believed to be ‘serious enough’ to warrant support⁴ can present a barrier to seeking help. With its deliberate use of non-clinical language Jo Baker’s new workshop for HG therapists considers all difficulties around eating worthy of help, understanding and support, irrespective of whether or not these difficulties have been diagnosed or meet the criteria for a diagnosable eating disorder. In this regard, the human givens approach takes a step forward towards early intervention, and treating the whole person. As well as having been a practising Human Givens therapist for 12 years, and teaching the HG Diploma, Jo has previously worked as a volunteer for BEAT and other local eating disorder charities and brings to the day a wealth of practical experience of working with eating difficulties both in private practice and in university settings.
