About the event We are pleased to be hosting a Doing History at University event for students and teachers in partnership with the University of Sheffield. The aim of the event is to introduce students to history at university, and how to make yourself stand out in the application process.  Sheffield University has one of the largest, most active and successful centres for teaching and historical research in the UK. It was ranked among the UK’s top three history departments for the impact and quality of its research, and its teaching is consistently rated as excellent. This one-day event will equip students with the tools to ensure that you have the best chance of studying history at the university of your choice. For a day packed full of helpful advice, workshops, mock interviews and case studies, plus sessions from the University of Sheffield history department and a chance to meet current students, this event is a must for students looking to study history at university and post-16 teachers looking to support their students.  Programme The programme will include:  Advice about admissions from the University of Sheffield Making the leap from sixth-form to university history What makes a great undergraduate historian How to make your UCAS application stand out Support for those applying to universities with interviews A sample lecture from Professor Julie Gottlieb A sample seminar with Dr Miriam Dobson A chance to meet current students Booking information Places are limited with a maximum of 5 per school. Learn to teach basic life support effectively with our "Promoting Best Practice in Basic Life Support Instruction" course. Ideal for healthcare professionals, educators, and individuals interested in life-saving interventions.

This session is for those who find themselves teaching even though they have not gone through teacher training. It is designed to give you the basic tools you need to begin delivering to ensure that learning takes place.

Teaching you how to treat your child should the worst occur Children can be present, though parents will remain responsible for them throughout 2.5 - 3 hr sessions Course Contents: What to do if your child goes unconscious How to check if they are breathing normally or not If they are, how to put them in the recovery position If they are not, how to start CPR and use an AED (defibrillator) What to do if your child were to choke What to do if they were to get burnt How to treat minor injuries (dependent on available time) Past Sessions: Sessions in the past have been paid for by a local charity, enabling parents to access the training for free We're happy to put on sessions for your group, playgroup, charity, or simply for you and your children We're always happy to have little ones come along They can either play around, or join us - they usually prefer to join us and play with the manikins, even trying out CPR! You will, of course, remain fully responsible for them while they are there Accreditation: These sessions are tailored to the needs of parents and are therefore not accredited. We can, however, give a CPD Certificate if that is helpful to you. We understand that all schools are at different stages of this journey, so this workshop will assist you in determining next steps and areas of specific focus for your setting.
