Learn all the knitting essentials! Holding the needles, choosing yarns, understanding knitting terminology, casting on (& off!), knit purl & more on this 3-week course with Knit Now's expert knitter & author Debbie Tomkies. Make 3 fun projects to take home along with professional handouts & patterns.

This course is ideal for all, from beginners to confident makers. You will learn the basics of leather craft for accessories and be introduced to techniques including machine stitching on leather, hand finishing leather, inserting hardware and decorative leather techniques. You will be working with a sustainably sourced lush vegetable tanned leather. This is a perfect introductory or taster course to start your journey into leather craft. In order to complete your purse in a day we will use part pre-cut parts and the purse will be made from a ‘Hands of Tym’ pattern but do not fear there is still plenty of work for you to do. During the day you will be directed by your tutor Leathersmith and London College of Fashion Lecturer Georgie Tym to make a ‘raw edge’ ‘concertina’ small leather purse with small internal pocket and a flap closure. There will be one small stud to keep the purse closed and the opportunity to personalise with initials and a small design of your choice. The dimensions of the purse are H130mm x W 95mm x D 10mm and it will be the same construction as the purse in the photos featured. The course will be run from the home studio of Hands Of Tym in Banbury, Oxfordshire, OX16 9DHParking available on the drive with easy access via the M40. Banbury train station is a 30 min walk. Trains run from both London Marylebone and Birmingham to Banbury in 50mins. Also well connected to Reading, Oxford, Leamington Spa to name a few. Maximum class size is 5 What's included in the price? There are no additional costs. All leather, hardware and other materials will be included. You don’t need any previous experience with leather working as you will learn the core skills and techniques on the course. It’s a perfect introduction to making traditional leather items. So if you’re looking for an unforgettable day, join our experienced craftsman, Paul Bradley, in a leather working day that focuses on leather work tools, design and construction. We have designed this course around the making of a simple notebook holder. We have chosen this as a project as it covers all the basic skills required to produce almost any small leather goods. There is also large scope for customisation of your project. Along the way you will learn about different leathers, techniques and tools. Typically, you will, under the expert guidance and instruction of Paul Bradley: - Use the provided pattern to produce a leather cover for a standard 5.5 x 3.5 notebook - Be guided on how to design and draw out and customise a pattern - Learn all about the different tools used in leather working and how to use them - Learn how to cut out, assemble and mark for stitching - Learn and practice the techniques of the traditional saddle stitch to complete the assembly of your notebook - Learn how to finish your project with edge burnishing techniques and other small but important details that add to the overall professional look. Join artist Julie Galante for an afternoon of homemade botanical inks made from foraged plants and kitchen scraps. In 2023 Julie dove into ink-making, producing more than 300 inks from over 100 different botanical sources. In this three-hour workshop, Julie will share what she’s learned from all these inky experiments, giving you the skills and knowledge to create your own library of botanical colours. She'll share her core learnings, including the best ways to extract colours, the best plants to use, and how to preserve and store your inks. We'll also cover different ways of finishing your inks depending on how you'd like to use them. Please note this workshop will take place in Julie's Stockbridge studio, which is accessible via three flights of stairs. We will also spend part of the workshop foraging outside, weather permitting, so please dress accordingly. Tea and coffee will be provided.
