Huddersfield-based artist Puy Soden is offering a specialist painting workshop which will enable you to experience one of the oldest and richest methods in the history of painting: &lsquo;buon&rsquo; fresco. A famous example of this method is the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome, painted by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512. After a lot of careful testing, Puy has developed the 'buon' fresco method to work on small tiles so you can enjoy this ancient process in an accessible, manageable way, and make durable, unique artworks for your home and garden.

&ldquo;What will I make?&rdquo;
​Puy invites you to make your own unique, colourful frescoes on four 10cm x 10cm tiles by following detailed, step-by-step guidance.* Suitable for any level, this hands-on workshop using specialist materials provides a balance of structured, guided learning and individual experimentation. Puy's aim is that participants enjoy a sense of mindful immersion while focusing on the materials and the process. Participants find that the four 10cm x 10cm tiles are the right size and quantity for this half-day workshop.

&ldquo;What is &lsquo;buon&rsquo; fresco?&rdquo;
Meaning &lsquo;true&rsquo; fresco, &lsquo;buon&rsquo; fresco is the method of applying pigments dispersed in water onto wet plaster, the &lsquo;intonaco&rsquo;, to create durable paintings on walls and ceilings. This differs from fresco &lsquo;a secco&rsquo;, &lsquo;dry&rsquo; fresco, which is the method of applying pigments mixed with a binder to dry plaster.&nbsp;
Traditionally, the buon fresco artist prepares the wall or ceiling with three or more layers of plaster, made with varying ratios of slaked lime putty and aggregate such as fine sand. The paint is applied to the intonaco, the final, smoothest and thinnest layer of plaster that contains less sand than the penultimate, coarser layer, the &lsquo;arriccio&rsquo;. Puy has worked out the best formula of intonaco for your tiles, and you will be using a combination of marble dust and fine sand.&nbsp;
​When the artist paints on the wet buon fresco surface, the pigment particles, carried in water, are locked into the intonaco as it dries. During the chemical process of the slaked lime reacting with the air, the pigments become embedded in a stone-like surface and therefore the artist&rsquo;s marks become a physical part of the painting-object.&nbsp;
​The durability of buon fresco is evidenced in the earliest known examples of the method, made by the Minoans of Bronze Age Crete around 2000 BCE. Imagery depicting Minoan culture, belief systems and their connection with nature has been very-well preserved within the intonaco surface that once covered palace walls and ceilings.&nbsp;

Huddersfield-based artist Puy Soden is offering a specialist painting workshop which will enable you to experience one of the oldest and richest methods in the history of painting: ‘buon’ fresco. A famous example of this method is the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome, painted by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512. After a lot of careful testing, Puy has developed the 'buon' fresco method to work on small tiles so you can enjoy this ancient process in an accessible, manageable way, and make durable, unique artworks for your home and garden.
 
“What will I make?”
​Puy invites you to make your own unique, colourful frescoes on four 10cm x 10cm tiles by following detailed, step-by-step guidance.* Suitable for any level, this hands-on workshop using specialist materials provides a balance of structured, guided learning and individual experimentation. Puy's aim is that participants enjoy a sense of mindful immersion while focusing on the materials and the process. Participants find that the four 10cm x 10cm tiles are the right size and quantity for this half-day workshop.
 
“What is ‘buon’ fresco?”
Meaning ‘true’ fresco, ‘buon’ fresco is the method of applying pigments dispersed in water onto wet plaster, the ‘intonaco’, to create durable paintings on walls and ceilings. This differs from fresco ‘a secco’, ‘dry’ fresco, which is the method of applying pigments mixed with a binder to dry plaster. 
Traditionally, the buon fresco artist prepares the wall or ceiling with three or more layers of plaster, made with varying ratios of slaked lime putty and aggregate such as fine sand. The paint is applied to the intonaco, the final, smoothest and thinnest layer of plaster that contains less sand than the penultimate, coarser layer, the ‘arriccio’. Puy has worked out the best formula of intonaco for your tiles, and you will be using a combination of marble dust and fine sand. 
​When the artist paints on the wet buon fresco surface, the pigment particles, carried in water, are locked into the intonaco as it dries. During the chemical process of the slaked lime reacting with the air, the pigments become embedded in a stone-like surface and therefore the artist’s marks become a physical part of the painting-object. 
​The durability of buon fresco is evidenced in the earliest known examples of the method, made by the Minoans of Bronze Age Crete around 2000 BCE. Imagery depicting Minoan culture, belief systems and their connection with nature has been very-well preserved within the intonaco surface that once covered palace walls and ceilings.

Quarterly meetings at the Academy

The Academy provides a list of Private and NHS Dental Surgeries, who are regularly contacting us when looking for more Trainee Dental Nurses, so you can contact them directly as a registered student at the Academy. This is a paid job, unless you would like to work voluntary for personal reasons. We also provide a reference letter to the employee in case you need it.

There are two exams:

To be eligible to sit your first exam, you have to complete your electronic Record of Experience (eROE). The eROE has to be submitted to your tutor by 31st Jan for March exam, and 31st August for November exam.

How do I attend?

EITHER -
CLASSROOM OPTION - Attend one of our scheduled classroom locations, completing your Introduction to Phlebotomy Course over 2 days. You will also complete your Advanced Training at the end of the first day and your Competency Training at the end of the second day.

Our Introduction to Phlebotomy and Advanced Phlebotomy Training Kits are supplied at no charge when booking our virtual classroom training option.
If you would like to add one or both of these kits to your classroom training option then these are available to add at time of booking. Our comprehensive training kits each mirror the same equipment and supplies used in the classroom and both include detailed video tutorials, allowing you to continue to practice and "hone" your skills after you have completed your practical training.

VIRTUAL CLASSROOM OPTION- Complete your theory training online at home or work, then join us for a one day Zoom session to complete your Introduction to Phlebotomy virtual classroom training, followed by your Advanced Training in the evening of the same day. You have the option to add a classroom-based competency session, awarding a CPD Accredited Geopace Certificate of Competency, at time of booking.

Our Virtual Classroom option includes two very comprehensive training kits - one for your introductory course and one for your advanced course. This Vaccination / Injection Course is a nurse or paramedic-led half-day session covering all essential theory and practical skill-sets required to deliver effective Intramuscular, Intradermal and Subcutaneous injections / vaccinations.
 
PART 1 - THEORY (online)
Delegates will fully understand the theory and will be able to demonstrate they can identify the correct patient, gain consent and safely administer a vaccine or injection, conforming to WHO and Skills for Health recommended standards.

How do I attend?

EITHER -
CLASSROOM OPTION - Complete your theory training online at home or work, then attend one of our scheduled classroom locations, completing your Peripheral IV Cannulation Course and your Injection Course on the same day.
Our Peripheral IV Cannulation Course and Injection Course training kits are supplied at no charge when booking our virtual classroom training option.
If you would like to add one or both of these kits to your classroom training option then these are available for you to add at time of booking. Training kits mirror the same equipment and supplies used in the classroom and both include detailed video instructions, allowing you to continue to practice and "hone" your skills after you have completed your practical training.

OR -

VIRTUAL CLASSROOM OPTION- Complete your theory training online at home or work, then join us for your one full day to complete your cannulation and injection course training.

Our Virtual Classroom option includes two very comprehensive training kits - one for your cannulation course and one for your injection course. Kits are included at no charge (normally £79.95 and £39.95 respectively) and are yours to keep and to continue to practice with after you have finished your courses. The equipment and supplies included in your kits are the same as those used if you choose the classroom option.

We offer both classroom and virtual classroom options for this course and a comprehensive Practise@Home Training Kit is provided for our virtual classroom option.
