However, previous experience nor qualifications are not necessary if you would like to enrol on our Course. The second the focus will be how to create a traditional cabochon. This stone will be have a flat base with a rounded top. This will be cut from rough stone which you can each select from Sarahs beautiful collection. You can decide the shape and size and which part of the stone you wish to use. The class size is limited to just 1 student. So you do not breathe in harmful rock dust during the process, you will be cutting the stone while it is in water. With this in mind, please wear older clothes, and waterproof shoes – wellies are advised as it is not a clean or dry activity. Water sprays from the rotating wheels as you are working. We will provide you with a waterproof apron. This course is an excellent introduction to stone cutting. It allows you to step into the world of Lapidary where you can cut and create any shaped stone you desire, you won’t be beholden to the shop bought stone. This means your projects and settings can become completely unique as per your designs. You will be working with a Cab King 6″ and the Diamond Pacific Pixie Cabbing Machine. We support you throughout the session and provide demonstrations to show you the techniques and steps needed to create your project. All tools and consumables are supplied The stones you will carve are NOT INCLUDED in the price of the course – This is something you can choose on the day so you can select something you would like to work with. Sarah has priced up different varies in generous sizes ranging from £3-£20. If you would rather not buy stone to work with, no problem, Sarah has plenty of beautiful flint that you can use instead. What to bring: For safety reasons, during each class, you are required to wear appropriate footwear, we request that no open toed shoes are worn within the workshop. Wellies or older waterproof shoes advised. Long hair should also be tied back when working with the equipment. You may also wish to bring a notebook. There are always many tips and tricks given verbally by the tutor, which some might like to keep note of. Also pack your own snacks and drinks for the session if required.

2 day Portrait Workshop in acrylics inspired by Dante Gabriel Rossetti   Join well known Edinburgh artist and tutor Suzanne Kemplay and model Beth Davison to create a portrait in the style of the pre Raphaelite Brotherhood. Expect an atmospheric set and romantic lighting in keeping with the Rossetti’s style, with a few modern touches thrown in.   On Day 1 Suzanne will give a short talk on how to approach your composition and how to capture the spirit of the artist’s technique. You’ll plan and sketch out a drawing in the morning before moving on to painting in the afternoon and on day two.  All materials are supplied (or feel free to bring your own) and the class is kept small to ensure everyone gets some individual attention. This course is most suited to those who have some drawing experience but we welcome beginners. Over 14s only. The workshop will run from 10 - 4pm on 1 and 2 April.

Eva's Pedal Power's Medway Cycling School caters for all abilities, and is dedicated to getting you on a bike and riding safely. When a beginner comes to a lesson they normally start on a balance or a adapted bike  In most cases we can provide the bike, so you will only need to bring any safety gear (like helmets etc.) Once the child/adult learns to balance I then introduce them to a bike with pedals and help them to cycle with guidance and support from myself to ensure safety. Sometimes the children/adults learn in their first lesson sometimes it takes longer. In the advanced sessions for children /adults, we teach Bikeability skills , formally known as ("cycle proficiency") You will be taught:  Road Positioning How to approach junctions Navigating Roundabouts. Traffic lights Zebra crossings Safe Cycling All lessons are held safely on the road with traffic.

Come and join Janine at Stitching Kitchen for a weekend learning how to make a log cabin quilt. This workshop will take place over two full Saturdays. It is suitable for total novices, taking you through everything you need to know to build confidence in quilt-making. If you are a more experienced quilter, you will enjoy learning a new technique that has so many creative possiblities, and you can benefit from Janine’s years of experience to pick up tips and tricks for a professional, polished quilt. Log cabin quilting gets its name from the layout of the pieces - log-shaped strips built up around a central square, or ‘hearth’. It's a great quilt for getting through your scraps. Or, you can use precut 2 ½-inch strips, like Jelly Rolls, which make the process easier and just as enjoyable. Log cabin quilting is really versatile because the fabric choices, layouts and positioning can be used to make such a huge range of patterns. Your tutor Janine also holds monthly long-arm clinics at Stitching Kitchen that you'd be welcome to drop into if you'd like any further pointers, or would like to outsource the quilt finishing to her! What you will learn/achieve Skills in measuring, cutting and sewing this traditional block. How to create a huge range of patterns with your fabric choices, layouts and positioning. If you’re not yet comfortable with a rotary cutter and ruler, you can use precut 2 ½-inch strips, like Jelly Rolls, which make the process easier and just as enjoyable. You won’t need to bring anything else and you can leave your sewing machine at home. Stitching Kitchen is fully equipped with Pfaff sewing machines and all the quilting tools and sewing kit for use during the workshop. Stitching Kitchen also stocks a full range of haberdashery, batting and quilting tools if you discover anything you would like to purchase to use at home.
