Learn about the Cavity Training Learning & Skills Teacher Course This qualification allows candidates to learn, develop and practice the skills required to prepare each of their students for progression to/or within employment or to further study. To deliver to a diverse group of students, including those with special educational needs. Fees This course can be completed as an government funded apprenticeship, through Cavity Training, or as a privately funded course for £4500. You can either pay as a lump sum or alternatively, you can split into 12 instalments. Entry requirements Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the End-Point Assessment. Structure To achieve the qualification the learner must compile a portfolio of evidence during the on-program period of the apprenticeship, which will typically contain 15 discrete pieces of evidence. Two pieces of evidence should be records of observations of the apprentice teaching, with the accompanying lesson plan, and support materials for the observed lesson. The lesson observations must have been carried out by an experienced teaching practitioner in the capacity of a manager. With a final professional discussion. About this course This practical course will help primary teachers to understand the purpose of assessment in history and consider current best practice. We will go through practical ideas and resources to enliven teaching and learning in history and provide opportunities for assessment. This course will provide guidance and support to help develop the accuracy of teacher judgements. During the course, we will look at examples of writing and outcomes from different schools and consider how these outcomes demonstrate progress and attainment in history. Steven is a member of the Historical Association’s primary committee, having worked as a primary school teacher and then Deputy Head Teacher between 2004 and 2018. He joined Lancashire Professional Development Service in April 2018 as a Teaching and Learning Consultant for Primary History and English. He works closely with Lancashire Archives to promote and develop local history work in primary schools. This year he is a judge for the Historical Association's Young Quills Awards.

Person Centred Planning (PCP) is a way of expressing a set of inclusive values through a unique range of tools and techniques. The most commonly used person centred tool with children is a PATH – and it shows these values in action. Why now? The Children and Families Act 2014 sets out clear principles for supporting and involving children and young people in all aspects of the support and planning of their special educational need. The Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice: 0 – 25 years provides the statutory guidance relating to part 3 of the Children and Families Act 2014. Embedded in its principles is the need for a stronger focus on the participation of children, young people and their parents/carers in decision making at both individual and strategic levels. The use of Person Centred Approaches provides the opportunity to fulfil those principles. This person-centred way of working offers a radical new approach to visualising planning, empowering and directly involving children and those that care about them throughout planning meetings and allowing for inclusive, creative methodology which builds on and challenges existing practice in schools.
