Practical Spanish for Travel (online)

Online group class (between 4 and 8 participants). - Duration of the course is 8 weeks, 1.5h/week, so a total of 12h. - Classes are held on Thursdays between 6.30-8pm. - All materials are included in the price of the course. - A 30-min online catch-up session is also included in the price of your course, so if you miss a class you can schedule this with your teacher to go over the content that was covered and ensure you stay on track. - The price of the full 12h course if £160, which works out as £13/h. This course is right for you if... - You have zero or very little knowledge of Spanish (yes, even if you can order a drink or two and ask for the bill!) - You can say and understand some words in Spanish but can't really string a sentence together. - You would like to learn enough Spanish to have basic conversations while on holiday and be able to go to a restaurant or visit a place without worrying that they won't speak English. - You feel that you should 'make an effort' to learn Spanish since you travel to Spain so often you could be fluent by now. During this single three-hour session, we will be meeting in the charming streets of Edinburgh, where we'll embark on a leisurely walk (weather permitting) and indulge in some wonderful Spanish tapas. As we stroll and enjoy some food, we'll refresh your Spanish skills, covering all the essential vocabulary and structures you're likely to use during your upcoming holiday. One non-alcoholic drink of your choice is included in the price of the course, however food isn't (but the tapas are worth every penny!). We offer flexible location options – just let us know your preference. You will leave feeling confident, motivated and ready to speak Spanish while abroad. *If you would like to take part in this session with your partner or a friend, you can do so! There is a £20 charge per additional participant, with a maximum of three participants per session including yourself. Join one of our Lovely, lively language classes for adults. We have 500 classes in the UK, just waiting for you to learn French, Spanish or Italian for fun!At the time, I was teaching in an FE college, and in a Primary School and studying for a PGCE in adult education. I quickly realised that many of the games and interactive techniques that the children enjoyed could be adapted for adult pupils. I decided to trial a language course for adults where the focus was on fun and conversation, rather than results and written work. So in 2007 I created French for Fun and held my first classes in Newcastle-under-Lyme. Through trial and error, I came up with a regular weekly format that worked and incorporated the learning theory from my PGCE. The classes are now built around a series of conversations, so everyone gets up and talks in every lesson at the same time (no trembling in front of the class). In January 2010, after enrolling our 60th student, I decided to see if French for Fun worked with other languages. In March 2010, Sally and Alejandra started to translate the programme in to Spanish with great success and we have also finished the Italian translation. I also started to offer licences to other teachers, training them to use my materials and supporting them to set up their own language teaching business. We now have 100 teachers dotted around the country and we’re training more all the time, so there will be a class coming to somewhere near you soon. Yippee! The British Ceramics Biennial (BCB) develops, sustains and expands innovative ceramics practice and improves lives together with artists and creative communities. We do this by delivering an engaging year-round programme of artists’ commissions, education and community projects. All of which feed into a festival of contemporary ceramics that takes place in Stoke-on-Trent. Initiated in 2009, the BCB festival has grown to be the single largest contemporary ceramics event in the UK. We present artworks from the UK’s leading ceramicists alongside work by international artists, in exhibitions and special events held across the city.

Stephanie Burgess aka ‘Marina Red’ is an established zine creator and writer from Cheshire. She is one of the original riot grrrls, having played in punk bands throughout the 90’s. She runs her own fanzine and blog riotgrrrlzine.co.uk, which forms part of her postgraduate research into the Spanish alternative music scene, but also covers Riot Grrrl and punk bands from throughout Europe. She is an old skool paper ‘zine creator, who crafts her ‘zines by hand using collage and a mixed-media approach, creating unique pages and art which are highly representative of punk zine culture and influenced by the Washington Hard-Core Riot Grrrl Scene of the early 1990s. In particular, Kathleen Hanna’s Riot Grrrl Manifesto, which was first published in a ‘zine in 1992. She has written for a variety of online music publications, is a published writer and translator, and also runs creative writing and ‘zine production masterclasses. Currently working towards her PhD “In Search of Spain’s Riot Grrrls” for Manchester University, she has over 20 years experience of both academic study of the writers and musicians of the last century. As a hispanophile with an MA in European Languages and Global Cultures, she can draw upon her deep understanding of the function of language within the creative process and has thus developed her own technique for inspiring others to be creative in a similar way.She is an avid fan of alternative music and has an extensive record collection dominated by female musicians. She can still be found most weekends flicking through the vinyls and CD’s at her nearest music shop or dancing her fishnets off at a punk gig!
