Derwent Training Association exists for the sole purpose of delivering engineering training. Founded in 1988 by employers, it has fulfilled that objective for over 30 years. Based in Malton, North Yorkshire, Derwent Training Association recruits and trains apprentices for approximately 100 employers across the region. In 2019-20 our timely achievement for Engineering Apprenticeships were well above the national average: 76% timely achievement for Level 3 Engineering Apprenticeships (15 points above the national average) 71% timely achievement for Level 2 Fabrication and Welding (9 points above the national average) Engineering and Manufacturing remains a local priority area for the York and North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership, and Derwent Training is committed to delivering on this priority. Welcome to Scientots At Scientots we believe that science should be fun, exciting and accessible to children of all ages. We have a unique series of interactive workshops, covering a wide range of science topics, written specifically for younger children. We provide inspiring sessions for your little ones in their pre-school or nursery setting. We also have party packages full of amazing experiments available for 4-10 year olds and a series of workshops for primary school age children both within school and at out of school clubs. All our experienced staff are fully insured, DBS checked and sessions are linked to the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage), KS1 or KS2 curriculum. About Us Scientots was set up by qualified science teachers Steph Thurman and Bev Bexton. Both Steph and Bev are mums of young children and between them have over 30 years experience working in classrooms and laboratories. This has led to their desire to make science fun and engaging, and to inspire children at a young age to question their surroundings and develop a love of science.

Situated in the heart of the community of Driffield, we are a unique and special place to learn. ‘Learning for Life’ is the foundation of all we do at Kings Mill and underpins our whole curriculum from Early Years through to Sixth form. The school caters for pupils aged 2-19 years. We are on two sites. The main school site houses Early Years through to Key Stage 4. The school was completed in May 2017 and has been purpose built to meet the needs of our pupils. Alongside eleven new classrooms we also have a new hydrotherapy pool, rebound room, sensory therapy room and sensory rooms. Students aged 16-19 are based at The Kings Mill Student Centre which is based at Driffield Secondary School approximately a mile away from the main site. This comprises three classrooms and a combined common room and food technology area. There is also opportunity for joint working with Driffield School. Our sixth form students also visit main site to access the facilities as required. All our pupils and students have complex needs and we offer specialist provision for pupils on the autistic spectrum and pupils with multi-sensory needs. Our curriculum principles and ethos are supported by a wide range of activities which happen on and off site. Sport plays a very important role in the life of the school and we believe in encouraging healthy competition and leadership skills. Allen & Wood (2012) state that for teachers, music is, ‘one of the most powerful teaching tools at their disposal’. Dave Godfrey, the founder of Number Fun, completed his master’s dissertation on the use of songs as a powerful tool for teaching and learning mathematics across the primary age-range. The Number Fun videos combine songs with other powerful tools like visualisation, animation, story and humour.
