A psychoeducational workshop over four sessions designed to empower greater personal understanding for people affected by hoarding behaviours.

Thursday 3 July,10am - 12.30pm    Are you interested in developing programmes and exhibits with LGBTQ+ content for children and families?    About this training    During this training session, we will address the challenges museum staff and volunteers face when creating LGBTQ+ content for children and families. Alongside this we will discuss strategies for advocating for this content and explore resources for planning and implementation.    This webinar will be led by Margaret Middleton, a freelance exhibit designer and museum consultant based in Manchester. Their background is in children's museums and they have written and consulted widely on creating LGBTQ+ museum content for families, especially those with children aged 10 and under.    Margaret will be joined by Dylan Saul, Family Programmes Facilitator and Moa Strand, Families and Young People Programmes Manager at Royal Museums Greenwich and Daniel Jessop, Learning and Community Engagement Officer at Novium Museum, who will talk about their LGBTQ+ work for children and families.     The session will help you to:  Understand the importance of this work, Think critically about the challenges you may face undertaking this work, Develop ways to advocate for this work, Gain inspiration from case studies to take your own work forward.   Take a look at the full schedule.    This training event will be delivered virtually on Zoom over one half-day session (two hours and 30 minutes with a short break).     Who should attend?  This training is aimed at staff and volunteers who work in museums, art galleries and heritage sites and are interested in developing programmes and exhibits with LGBTQ+ content for children and families.   

Course Overview Teaching the theory and practise of suicide intervention skills that can be applied in any professional or personal setting, captured in a one-day event accredited by City and Guilds of London. We use only the most experienced suicide prevention trainers to deliver this unique learning experience: for anyone who seeks greater understanding and confidence to intervene with people at risk of suicide. The Suicide First Aid through Understanding Suicide Intervention (SFAUSI) course gives learners the knowledge and tools to understand that suicide is one of the most preventable deaths and some basic skills can help someone with thoughts of suicide stay safe from their thoughts and stay alive.  Course Content SFAUSI is comprised of 4 parts, each 90 minutes duration. The programme teaches and practices the skills and knowledge needed to identify someone who may be thinking about suicide and competently intervene to help create suicide- safety as a first aid approach.  Part 1  Introduction to: the day; programme; ourselves and suicide prevention Stigma, Survivors of bereavement by suicide and the Hidden Toll Suicide thoughts and suicide behaviour Intention of behaviour Versus Outcome of behaviour Possible Causes of Suicidal thoughts Part 2 Suicide – the Ripple Effect Population-based approach to suicide prevention Partnership working Working with attitudes and values “I’m so glad you told me” - Audio visual Part 3 Meeting the needs of a person who is thinking about suicide Suicide-Safety Guide Step 1 – Recognising suicide and asking about suicide Step 2 – Understanding options Part 4 Step 3 – Safeguarding suicide Suicide-safety and self-care The risk assessment approach Suicide and suicide gestures Future learning Format Taught over 6 hours using tutor facilitated Socratic learning, tutor-led practice session, mini lectures, group work and audio-visual presentations. This is a highly interactive and emotionally engaging learning experience.  Pre-training requirement No previous experience or training is necessary. Participants will be asked to self-reflect and empathise with a person having thoughts of suicide. There is no expectation on participants to share personal experiences.  Who should attend?  Multi-sector managers and practitioners including health, housing, social care, education, criminal justice, call centre operators, private, voluntary and public sector workers and community groups or members.  Accreditation Participants can choose to register for the City and Guilds accredited unit of learning for an additional fee of £85 per person. This involves completion of a written assignment.

Avey returned to the Trust as Chief Nurse in November 2020, having trained as a critical care nurse at St Thomas’ in the early part of her career. Avey qualified in 1991 and her clinical experience includes theatres, general intensive care, coronary care and cardiothoracic nursing. She held various staff nurse and sister posts at hospitals in London before becoming Chief Nurse and Director of Infection Prevention and Control at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2017.  Avey holds a postgraduate diploma in health services management and a Masters in Public Administration. She is a Trustee for the St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group.  Caroline Alexander CBE - Group Chief Nurse - Barts NHS Trust Caroline graduated as a nurse in 1987 from Edinburgh University (BSc/RGN) and has an MSc in Nursing Studies from South Bank University (2001). From 1987 to 1993 she specialised in nursing older people in Edinburgh and then London at Guy’s Hospital as a ward sister. Caroline then worked for the Foundation of Nursing Studies for three years supporting nurses to use research in practice. In 1998 Caroline returned to the NHS and worked in Tower Hamlets in a range of roles within older people’s services. In 2005, Caroline took up her first Director post, as Director of Nursing and Therapies within Tower Hamlets PCT. With the clustering of PCTs in London in 2011, she took on the Director of Nursing and Quality within NHS East London and the City initially and then within NHS North East London when the clusters merged in 2012. until she joined NHS England as Regional Chief Nurse for London in April 2013. Caroline took up her current role of Chief Nurse for Barts Health in March 2016. Caroline was a 2008 Florence Nightingale Leadership Scholar and has been awarded Honorary Doctorates from City, University of London in 2017, Middlesex University in 2018 and University of East London in 2021.
