Learn how to make really fun and creative bowls from rope and bits of scrap fabric. I will teach you all you need to know and I will supply all you need to get going. It is SO fun and SO versatile! You decide on the shape, size and colours! This is a very practical and hands on class which will see you making stuff in no time. All tools, use of machines and materials are included. The class will finish around 1pm

Watercolour for Beginners – Saturday 8th June – 10:30-13:30- Friends Meeting House Manchester During this course, you will discover how a deeper understanding of painting techniques can equip you with the practical methods and skills to help you with any future paintings you want to attempt. Suitable for people of all levels of experience; from those who are new to watercolour painting, to more experienced artist, this foundational course in watercolour painting, unites primary techniques so that you can expand your creativity in one coherent approach. This fully guided course covers topics such as: · Seeing shape: Translating three-dimensional objects into simple shapes before painting. · Mark Making: Exploring different types of marks and developing good brush control. · Understanding Basic Techniques: Learning fundamental techniques such as creating washes, wet-on-wet, wet -on-dry, glazing, lifting, and blending. · Colour Mixing: Learning how to mix colours to create a wide range of hues and values. · Composition: Exploring the principals of composition and design to create visually interesting drawings. · Subject Matter Exploration: Experimenting with different subjects such as still life and flowers. ‘Both of these wines are [Grape X] from [Country Y] – so why is this one twice the price?’ It’s a question that we’re often asked, so for summer 2024, we’re putting on a trio of tastings to show what happens when you fork out some extra money. Each week, we’ll try four pairs of popular styles of wine, one bottle of we’ve bought for under £10, while the other has cost at least twice as much. And we’ll be trying each pair ‘blind’ – you’ll know what the wines are, but not which is in Glass 1 and which in Glass 2… We’ll have a chat about what it is in each case that makes one of the wines more expensive, then we’ll see which you prefer before revealing which is which. Do you have expensive tastes, or are you more at home with the cheap and cheerful? It’s a great opportunity to find out – and to taste some lovely wines!  The line-up for each week will be: Week 1 WHITES: New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, Italian Pinot Grigio REDS: Australian Shiraz, Red Bordeaux Week 2 WHITES: Loire Sauvignon Blanc, South African Chenin Blanc REDS: Rioja, New Zealand Pinot Noir Week 3 WHITES: White Burgundy, German Dry Riesling REDS: Red Rhône, Argentine Malbec Each week’s tasting will include 8 wines, and there’ll be some tasty cheese as accompaniment. The cost for each tasting is £37.50, but if you book for all three sessions, the price will be just £100, saving £12.50.

This course is stained glass mosaic on a mirror base and designed for garden display throughout the year. The aim of the course is to teach you the techniques and throughout the workshop build your confidence and knowledge to complete a stunning mosaic for you to take home.

Create a fabulous and unique free-standing serpentine wave form in fused glass; finished size is approximately 15cms tall by 38cms wide by 5cms deep. Jill Bagnall, designer-maker at Fusing Ideas Glass, will introduce you to kiln-forming and the skills required to create a beautiful & unique work of art that will look fabulous in your home. Everything you need is supplied; equipment and lovely coloured glass, plus guidance and advice to create your design; no previous experience is necessary. Exclusive evening of creativity in Edinburgh to support the future of Scotland’s craft industry

Alien spoons? Well, only because it is a memorable name and some of the knife grasps feel a bit alien to start with. You will soon get to grips with them and the focus of this workshop is learning to use safe and efficient carving techniques with hand tools - the axe, straight knives and hook knives... maybe also a drawknife on a shave horse. By following good technique you will avoid injuries and with regular stretching this will help you to look after your body as well as the tools. You should leave with the knowledge and confidence to carve safely at home. The tools are relatively cheap and easy to use in a small space. You will have access to a range of tools, but primarily use the Mora wood carving knives (106/120/164s) and be shown traditional designs for optimising strength and utility. Using these traditional tools you will make a spoon from local and sustainable fresh cut green wood - starting with a log and leaving with a spoon. From the initial splitting of the log with a froe or axe, trimming this down with an axe, and on to carving finer details and decorations with knives. Additional skills in building a shave horse and other green wood working can also be taught. This course is run from close to central Edinburgh and is accessible by public transport.  Depending on the weather it can be inside or outdoors in the wildlife garden. Courses can also be arranged to suit your availability! Please get in touch to discuss your requirements, discounts are available for small groups or multiple days.
