Understanding and applying the rules on means assessment and providing the right evidence can be difficult given the many various circumstances that must be accounted for with each client. 

This course will discuss the key aspects of the LAA’s Means Assessment guidance, with discussions on topics such as whose resources should be considered; rules on income, deductions, and capital; evidence requirements - and common errors that are made; rules on allowances (e.g. subject matter of dispute; and how to find and interpret guidance for less common circumstances (e.g. self-employed clients). 

Means Assessment Guidance is often the same for controlled work and licensed work, but there are some subtle differences on occasion, and the course will highlight some of the main differences in rules.

This course is aimed at anyone involved in making civil legal aid applications or assessing civil legal help work for financial eligibility.

Harold Fry is a recently retired man living a conventional, somewhat boring life with his wife Maureen who is irritated by almost everything he does. Then one morning he receives a letter from a woman he hasn't seen or heard from in twenty years - Queenie Hennessy who is dying and is writing to say goodbye.

He quickly writes a reply but realises that he can't post this - he needs to visit her and deliver his message in person - walking the six hundred miles between them. The unlikely pilgrimage of Harold Fry begins.

Throughout his walk he meets different characters some of whom help him to remember who he was and who he is. His memories come flooding back as he considers his life from a different perspective.

Elif Shafak is a British Turkish novelist. There Are Rivers in the Sky is a rich, enchanting novel focusing on three characters, in three different times and places, all somehow touched by the Mesopotamian poem, The Epic of Gilgamesh. As well as a gripping story it is also a story of the preciousness of water - the characters live along the banks of the River Tigris and the River Thames in London.

Course content
Learners will be introduced to EAS as part of the fire safety solution for tall residential properties. This CPD course provides learners with an understanding of the requirements of BS 5839-1 in relation to, the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of EAS.

Who should attend?
Anyone involved in the management of existing tall residential properties and those specifying or installing EAS e.g., leaseholders, FM providers, service managers, building/property managers, consultants, fire risk assessors, EAS contractors, EAS designers, F&RS.
