IPAF training is the most widely recognised standard for Mobile Elevated Work Platform operators. These are commonly known as MEWP’s or Scissor Lifts and Cherry Pickers. MHA Training is a fully approved and registered IPAF member and we can deliver a wide range of courses. This can be done at our training centre in Warrington or On-Site at customer premises Nationwide. The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) promotes the safe and effective use of powered access worldwide. Set up in 1983, IPAF is a non-profit organisation that represents the interests of member training companies. Over the years, IPAF has played a key role in promoting many of the design safety and testing procedures that are now established in the powered access industry. Companies such as MHA Training in Warrington are responsible for training for over 90,000 operators each year. Those who successfully complete their training at our centre in Warrington, or out On-Site nationwide are awarded the PAL Smart card. The (Powered Access Licence) is the most widely held and recognised qualification for mobile platform operators. The PAL Smart card is valid for five years and shows the machine categories that an operator has been trained on. It also features the holders photo and signature, and can be verified on their website. IPAF itself does not provide any training, it is provided by approved quality training centres like MHA Training. Approved training centres are regularly audited by IPAF, which ensures the highest standards are consistently met. Class sizes are kept small and courses generally last 1-2 days and are a mixture of theory and practical. To ensure success candidates must then undergo a 30 question multiple choice paper and a practical test. Course material is available in many languages and training centre’s receive regular updates. MHA Training was established in 2008 based at our training centre in Warrington, Cheshire. We provide an array of services On-Site also for clients around the North West in areas such as Manchester, Liverpool, Widnes, St. Helens, Runcorn, Wigan, Preston and Leeds. Over the years we have expanded and have instructors available Nationwide. IPAF E-Learning. IPAF’s new E-learning module is part of its full training programme for mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs). The E-learning module delivers flexibility and interactive tools, with the same emphasis on practical training. Together with supervised written and practical testing of operator skills. E-learning can lead to a PAL Card (Powered Access Licence) which proves that the operator has successfully completed the training and is able to operate MEWP’s safely. Benefits: Flexible. Trainees complete the theory part anytime, anywhere, on any device, at their own pace. Interactive. Engages trainees with games, quizzes, videos and simulations. Operator E-learning does not replace practical training. Trainees who complete the online session must still pass a supervised theory test with an IPAF centre like MHA training. Also must successfully complete a minimum half-day of practical training and testing before being issued a PAL Card as proof of successfully completed operator training. Lee Furniture offer a beginners course in Box Making. The tuition is one on one. This course is for the beginner interested in making furniture.  Throughout the day we will make a box (see images) in solid Oak/Ash (Timber dependant on stock) There is an option to upgrade the box to Walnut timber during the course!! The course is hands on and will be based around using tools and machinery to plane and join for your box, use of hand tools to include the correct use of: Marking out tools Planes Chisels Scrapers Power tools There will be demonstrations throughout the day including chisel sharpening, planing and cutting wood. Unlike courses of this type elsewhere, this is a making course, not just assembling pre-cut planed components, you will plane from scratch sawmill-provided timber.  At the end of the day you will have achieved the making of a solid oak box, and learned some of the techniques used in cabinet making. The Box is finished with modern style hinges and a oil/wax finish.. What's included in the price? Wood is included in the course for practising your new skills.  Tea and coffee included for the day. I've added this two day workshop because a one day workshop gives you the basics, but two days will allow you to develop your carving technique and use additional knife grasps.  By embedding good technique into the way you carve, you will avoid injuries and additional regular stretching will help you to look after your body. You will leave with the knowledge and confidence to carve safely at home.  You will have access to a range of different tools, starting with the axe to rough out spoon blanks - I have a good range of axes you can try from budget to the Gransfors large carving axe. Next using the Mora wood carving knives (105/106/120) to shape your blanks into spoons following traditional designs for optimising strength and utility. I also have a range of hook knives to try out. Using these traditional tools you will make a spoon from local and sustainable fresh cut green wood (usually willow/birch/alder or cherry) - starting with a log and leaving with a spoon. From the initial splitting of the log, trimming it down with an axe, to carving finer details and decorations with chip carving knives. This course is located close to central Edinburgh and is accessible by public transport.  Depending on the weather it can be inside or outdoors in the wildlife garden. Experienced tutor Kat Gollock helps you harness your creative potential in four engaging and empowering sessions. De-mystify the technical jargon and unlock your DSLR camera’s full potential. Learn Photoshop from a photographer’s perspective and the essential skills you need to really make your images shine. If you don’t have a digital SLR we can often provide one for you – please let us know at time of booking to confirm. You can also use your interchangeable or fixed lens system, mirrorless or rangefinder camera on this course. Bridge cameras without interchangeable lenses can be used too, but please note that they may not allow the full range of camera controls. Computer experience is beneficial. Week 1: Camera You will be guided through the manual settings of your Digital SLR camera, fully exploring how to capture light and time in a single image. Learn how to generate accurate exposures through aperture, shutter speed and ISO control and how/when to apply them creatively. We’ll explore some of the other digital settings that are key to understanding and building your confidence with your own camera. Week 2: Creating Put into practice all the camera features discussed and demonstrated in Week 1 on a walk around town. You will then return to the gallery for discussion and troubleshooting session to help further iron out any kinks. Week 3: Composition Will introduce you to photographic composition, history and appreciation and will be accompanied by more time to shoot so as to put these new skills into practice Week 4: Critique This week the full digital workflow will be explored with focus on image selection and post production techniques. An introduction to Adobe programs Bridge and Photoshop will be a key part of this process. On completion, we will have an informal and supportive discussion and feedback session provided by the tutor and peers.   Courses are subject to minimum enrolment.
