1 DAY T-SHIRT PRINTING WORKSHOP £75.00 The perfect introduction to t-shirt screen printing, our beginner workshop is ideal for anyone interested in learning the complete screen printing process or simply looking to print some t-shirts with their own design for a special occasion. The sessions will run from 10am – 4pm with a 1 hour break for lunch. The day will be split as follows: Morning After a short intro into the studio and the process you’ll guided through how to coat and expose your design onto your screen. Afternoon After lunch we’ll cover ink mixing and the process of setting up the t-shirt carousel ready for printing. When the screens are dry and colours are chosen everyone will have a go at printing their t-shirts. 1 DAY FABRIC PRINTING WORKSHOP £75.00 The perfect introduction to fabric screen printing, our beginner workshop is ideal for anyone interested in learning the complete screen printing process or simply looking to print some tea towels or cushion covers with their own design for a special occasion. The sessions will run from 10am – 4:00pm (subject to class size) with a 30 min break for lunch. The day will be split as follows: Morning After a short intro into the studio and the process you’ll guided through how to coat and expose your design onto your screen. Afternoon After lunch we’ll decide on colours and select print pastes and go through the process of setting up the fabric tables ready for printing. When the screens are dry everyone will have a go at printing their fabric. Each person will walk away with 1 metre of fabric printed with their own 1 or 2 colour design. 1 DAY PAPER PRINTING WORKSHOP £75.00 The perfect introduction to paper screen printing, our beginner workshop is ideal for anyone interested in learning the complete screen printing process or simply looking to print an edition with their own design for a special occasion. The sessions will run from 10am – 4pm with a 1 hour break for lunch, a great opportunity to sample one of the many food kiosks located on levels 5 and 6 of the building. The day will be split as follows: Morning After a short intro into the studio and the process you’ll guided through how to coat and expose your design onto your screen. Afternoon After lunch we’ll cover ink mixing and the process of setting up the paper bed ready for printing. Tutor: Joseph Wilson During this 4-week course, we will use conventional black and white analogue materials in conjunction with non-conventional techniques to create images that stradle ordinary photographic representation and alternative vision. We will deviate from standard darkroom production through the practical exploration of a range of techniques such as Sabattier printing, bas relief printing, cameraless photography, and various methods for pushing and pulling film. These otherworldly techniques – many of which have been the basis for contemporary digital manipulation tools – offer abundant possibility for alternative photographic vision, where emphasis is placed on the transformative potential of darkroom work. This course would be the perfect follow up from our Intro to B&W or Colour Darkroom courses. All materials including photographic film and paper will be provided during this course. However, participants are encouraged to bring along some of their own black and white negatives. Camera know-how and prior darkroom experience are required for this course. Course Outline Week 1: Pushing and Pulling Film We will begin by considering non-conventional ways in which we can rate and process our films, and the various effects of doing so. Presentation and discussion on the uses of these techniques by artists. Shooting 5×4 film at various ISO ratings Using adjustments in time, temperature, dilution, and agitation to Push & Pull the film. Week 2: Possibilities in Print This week we will create prints from our negatives using alternative techniques. Review results in negatives and make contact prints. Sabattier effect printing Multiple exposure printing Bas Relief Printing Week 3: Cameraless Photography We will explore the possibilities of directly exposing through objects and ‘resists’ onto photographic paper. We will cover: Photograms Chemigrams Week 4: Lith Printing An introduction to Lith printing and the possibilities it affords us. A presentation on the history and uses of Lith printing Lith Printing from our negatives Combining non-conventional printing techniques with lith.   Courses are subject to minimum enrolment. Please register early, within five days of the start date, to reduce the likelihood of course cancellation. General Guidance Notes for Pregnant and Breast Feeding Women and Asthmatics: From a risk assessment standpoint, provided all necessary control measures (such as good working practices, adequate ventilation, and the use of appropriate PPE) are in place then pregnant and breastfeeding women should be able to continue to work safely with photochemical products.Inhalation is the main route by which fumes and gases enter the body, making good ventilation a high priority. Exposure to irritant chemicals that would not affect most people may provoke an asthma attack in a person who already has asthma. For example, low levels of the gas sulphur dioxide can be produced by some ILFORD PHOTO processes. Most individuals would be unaffected but asthmatics may suffer adverse affects. ILFORD PHOTO products include no known human carcinogens, and no substances to which phrase R46 (May cause heritable genetic damage) or R64 (May cause harm to breastfed babies) applies. Most ILFORD PHOTO developers use hydroquinone, and their classification therefore includes R40 (Limited evidence of a carcinogenic effect) and R68 (Possible risk of irreversible effects). Some ILFORD PHOTO chemicals use boric acid or borates. These substances are classified as toxic for reproduction. As a result, the classification of some of the powder developers includes R60 (May impair fertility) and R61 (May cause harm to the unborn child).

This is a full day intensive workshop which will teach you the processes involved in photo etching, including preparing the metal for etching, transferring the designs onto the metal using press and peel (P&P) paper and how to use specific etching solutions to cut the designs into the metal. This course will allow you to broaden your design process so that you can add some intricate textures to your copper and silver jewellery designs. You will be provided with a set amount of materials including copper sheet to practice the process and a 4cm by 4cm piece of silver sheet to create a silver textured pendant during your session. WHEN: Sunday 13th October 10-5pm WHERE:  Workshop 925 based at The Mayford Centre, just outside of Woking and very close to Guildford. Unit F9 The Mayford Centre, Mayford Green Woking, Surrey  GU22 0PP TUTOR: Krista Thomson WHAT DOES THE DAY INVOLVE? This is a great opportunity to stock pile some great patterned silver for us with future projects. On the day you will be provided with some patterns to etch, if you have a set pattern in mind, please send us the artwork in good time for your class. Designs must be black and white only and please note smaller patterns work better than larger ones. Please email it to us at hello@workshop925.com. Alternatively instruction on where to purchase P&P paper and how to print your own designs onto it will be sent out prior to your course date to those of you who wish to etch your own designs. You will be etching the majority of the day, however if you would like to create a finished design, we can accommodate this, you can do some etching in the morning and create a design in the afternoon. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: None, all abilities are welcomed. This course is a great introduction to etching for those who have a vast experience in jewellery making but have not yet tried this technique as well as beginners looking to create beautiful textural pieces of jewellery. Our small classes mean we are able to provide each student with the support they require. CLASS SIZE: 6 WHAT IS INCLUDED? All tools and consumables are supplied Please bring refreshments as we are no longer able to provide them The cost of this course includes copper sheet to practice the technique and a 4cm by 4cm section of silver sheet. The price also includes a selection of patterns printed on P&P paper to use during your course.  WHAT TO BRING: For safety reasons, during each class, you are required to wear appropriate footwear, we request that no open toed shoes are worn within Workshop 925. Long hair should also be tied back when working with the equipment. You may also wish to bring a notebook. We have handouts for many demonstrations, but there are always many tips and tricks given verbally by the tutor, which some might like to keep note of.
