DATE: Thursday 18th July TIME: 4pm LOCATION: Studio A MAX ALBRECHT is the creative director and founder of Critical Mask Pictures, a production company that focuses on narrative filmmaking. Max will be joining us on Thursday 18th July to discuss how best to market yourself and find work as a freelancer in the film and television industries. With years of experience under his belt, this will be a great Life Skills Session to attend to learn about life after CFS. Max will also discuss his experiences founding a production company and operating as a sole trader, so that attendees can learn of all the many ways to make a living independently in the business. A Q+A Session will take place for anything specific people wanted to ask. Be sure to book your free ticket in advance so that you don't miss out!

William Friedkin's masterpiece of terror is one of the essential scary films everyone needs to see.

Date: 24th October 2023 Time: 4pm Location: Studio A Sorcha Kurien-Walsh, a former pupil at Central Film School, has kindly agreed to join us to discuss her career as a TV screenwriter and her work on the upcoming comedy series Rivals, set to star David Tennant and Danny Dyer and release on Disney+ next year. Additionally, she will speak about her BBC Studios short film 'The Pink Pill', and answer any questions students may have about working as a screenwriter in the TV industry. Make sure to come along and bring questions to ask her!

Date: Monday 23rd October Time: 4pm Location: Studio A Come and see Celine Sciamma's (Portrait of a Lady on Fire) exploration of gender identity and youth, Tomboy. When they move to a new neighbourhood in Paris, 10-year-old Laure sees the opportunity to present a new gender identity for themselves. Told with touching delicacy and subtle yet powerful drama, this film is a tour-de-force approach to the topic.

Date: Monday 16th October Time: 4pm Location: Studio A Join us again for CFS Film Club, as this week we visit one of the essential independent films of the last decade, 2016's Best Picture Winner Moonlight. Barry Jenkins' tender masterpiece explores the LGBT identity within wider African-American culture, with stunning imagery, sensational performances and a wondrous score. Follow the story of Chiron, a teenager growing up in the Miami ghetto, dealing with his sexuality and drug-addict mother. Tickets are free to this event, and be sure to join us in The Landor pub afterwards to discuss the film together.

Date: Tuesday 3rd October Time: 4pm Location: Studio A Lucy Percival will be holding a talk on 'How to Find Your Ideal Role in Film & Navigating the World of Independent Filmmaking & Financing' Lucy has produced award-winning short films through both independent production companies and organisations such as the BFI and NFTS. Her films have been screened at numerous BAFTA qualifying festivals, including Raindance, Bolton International Film Festival and Carmarthen Bay Film Festival. She has now joined Window Zebra Productions as their Senior Creative Producer overlooking and developing the narrative slate. Come and hear her thoughts and suggestions on how you can find your wheelhouse and get started on your creative journey.

DATE: 26th March TIME: 4pm LOCATION:Studio A We are pleased to welcome Film Buddy back for an exclusive TELEVISION SCREENWRITING mentoring session, where we will feature two wonderful guest speakers and mentors: CALEB RANSON (Around the World in 80 Days, Midsomer Murders) and JAKE RIDDELL (Waterloo Road, Young Dracula, Grantchester, Death in Paradise). They will be discussing various aspects of TV Screenwriting, including what to include in your pilot and how best to pitch your series idea. Date: 12th March 2024 Time: 4pm Location: Studio A Acclaimed actress Ruth Negga will be joining us in a Professional Perspectives session next month, discussing her career, experiences working with many famous directors (Neil Jordan, Jeff Nichols, James Gray & Duncan Jones amongst others) as well as on TV shows such as Preacher, Misfits and Agents of SHIELD. Join us for a special 61st anniversary screening of JFK (1991) by Oliver Stone Step back into one of the most tumultuous moments in American history with a powerful screening of the theatrical version of Oliver Stone’s gripping and controversial thriller that explores the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Through dramatic storytelling and a deep dive into the era’s conspiracy theories, the film raises provocative questions that still stir debate today. Event Highlights Historical context: CFS welcomes Dr Mark de Valk, Course Leader of Practical Filmmaking at Central Film School, who will first deliver a pre-screening overview on Oliver Stone’s 1991 film JFK. Film screening: A special 61st anniversary screening of the theatrical version of JFK (1991) by Oliver Stone. There will also be a demonstration of a Bell & Howell 8mm film camera that captured the event on 22/11/63.
