Join us for a special 61st anniversary screening of JFK (1991) by Oliver Stone Step back into one of the most tumultuous moments in American history with a powerful screening of the theatrical version of Oliver Stone’s gripping and controversial thriller that explores the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Through dramatic storytelling and a deep dive into the era’s conspiracy theories, the film raises provocative questions that still stir debate today. Event Highlights Historical context: CFS welcomes Dr Mark de Valk, Course Leader of Practical Filmmaking at Central Film School, who will first deliver a pre-screening overview on Oliver Stone’s 1991 film JFK. Film screening: A special 61st anniversary screening of the theatrical version of JFK (1991) by Oliver Stone. There will also be a demonstration of a Bell & Howell 8mm film camera that captured the event on 22/11/63.

That's right, on Halloween night we'll be kicking things off with a modern classic of the genre, Robert Eggers' twisted, Lovecraftian story of two lighthouse keepers fighting the elements, insanity and each other. This is a practical workshop to help you understand more about how anxiety, perfectionism and procrastination can get in the way of getting stuff done. Whether you are a starter or into your final year after, It is timed to help you prepare for your first written assignment and set you up for the year ahead, without all the angst that can really hold you back from enjoying your college studies and life. You may feel that no one else struggles as much as you do over getting work submitted. By sharing ideas and tips together in small groups of 2 or 3, you may be surprised by how much you have in common with your fellow students and how much you can learn from each other.

DATE: 18th January TIME: 6PM LOCATION: Curzon Soho Theatre, 99 Shaftesbury Avenue, W1D 5DY BOOKING DEADLINE: 9th January SONY SCREENINGS have invited CFS students to attend an exclusive, complimentary screening of Michael Mann's motorsports biopic Ferrari, at the Curzon Soho Theatre on Thursday 18th January. It will consist of welcome drinks from 6 o'clock, with the screening itself starting at 6:40pm. After the screening there will be networking until 11pm. This great event MUST BE BOOKED IN ADVANCE, and has limited availability. ONE TICKET may be booked per CFS student (sorry, no plus-ones this time). The deadline to book onto this is Tuesday 9th January. It will be first come first served, and tickets will be booked according to remaining availability from the organisers. DATE: Monday 18th March TIME: 4pm LOCATION: Studio A Philomena tells the delightful story of a cynical journalist helping the trusting titular character find the son she was made to give up for adoption fifty years before. Told with deep warm compassion and two wonderful performances from Judi Dench and Steve Coogan, this film will leave you feeling warm and hopeful for humanity once more.

DATE: Thursday 18th July TIME: 4pm LOCATION: Studio A MAX ALBRECHT is the creative director and founder of Critical Mask Pictures, a production company that focuses on narrative filmmaking. Max will be joining us on Thursday 18th July to discuss how best to market yourself and find work as a freelancer in the film and television industries. With years of experience under his belt, this will be a great Life Skills Session to attend to learn about life after CFS. Max will also discuss his experiences founding a production company and operating as a sole trader, so that attendees can learn of all the many ways to make a living independently in the business. A Q+A Session will take place for anything specific people wanted to ask. Be sure to book your free ticket in advance so that you don't miss out!

DATE: Thursday 11th July TIME: 4pm LOCATION: Studio A Chris Jones is one of the lead organisers of the London Screenwriting Festival, and also recently served as Splinter Unit Director of Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One. He will be discussing both how students can navigate film festivals and make their work stand out, and also his experiences working in a position of creative control on a large-scale blockbuster film.
