This five week course is aimed at adults who would like to build on their prior knowledge of ceramics as well as explore new skills.
Ideal as an introduction to working with clay using a selection of approaches. About this Event Cyan Clayworks is an artist-run, non profit studio and teaching space. This three hour introductory class is suitable for adult beginners, and will focus on tile making, press moulded dishes and wheel throwing. Each student will be introduced to the basics of throwing; centering the clay, and forming a small vessel each. You will be able to create a small group of unique textured and coloured slip decorated tiles and a pressmoulded dish using one of our moulds. Limited class sizes with both Fiona and Chris teaching so lots of hands on support! You will be given one to one support while on the wheel. Your work will be trimmed (wheelthrown pots), fired and glazed ready to collect a few weeks later. You'll be notified by email and will then have a month to collect your pieces. £60 per person, inclusive of booking fee, materials, preparation, glazing and firings.
Ideal as an introduction to working creatively with clay. This two hour workshop is aimed at beginners who would like an introduction to making ceramics.
This is a fab opportunity to join us in the studio for a gorgeous session of Ceramic Bauble decorating, with festive music You will each have opportunity to decorate a set of 6 baubles. We will use specialised permanent paint suitable for ceramics in your choice of colours. You will be shown examples of deer, fox, snowman, penguin, owl etc ……or use your imagination to come up with your own characters. You will take them home on the day, as they don’t require firing in the kiln. Suitable for age 7+ to come and create your festive decorations. We can arrange a private group/ family booking where dates are available. From 4 - 12 people. Please use the group request option to enquire. An extended group Zoom session covering the science of wire wheels & some very useful practical applications What you will learn: Part 1: How a wire wheel works Wheel patterns - Radial & tangential, Tramlines & crosses, Exotic patterns Spoke count identification: Easily distinguish between 32 spoke, 36 spoke and 40 spoke wheels instantly, without counting. Part 2: The unique Colwood Wheel Works wheel configuration chart (this will be sent to you by email): How to use it & how to work it all out without the chart. (Hint: it's easier with the chart) Practical use of wheel configurations to work out spoke lengths. Part 3: Weight and how it effects performance. Wheel weight v frame weight. Sprung weight v unsprung weight. There will be a short Q & A time between each part and another Q & A at the end of the course.. The content of this course is relevant to all wire wheels: motorcycles, bicycles, wheelchairs, sulkies, and pretty much every other place where you will find a tensioned wire wheel.
