Project Manager's Journey: From 'Doing' to 'Leading'

By IIL Europe Ltd

Project Manager's Journey: From 'Doing' to 'Leading' Many of us are 'accidental' project managers. Project management may not be the profession we dreamed of as we were growing up. Most likely we stumbled into it. You may have been asked to manage projects in your organization, because you have shown superior technical skill. Ironically the skill that got you where you are today as a project manager is not what will take you where you need to go in this position. Now you are not 'doing' project work per se any more but 'leading' it. This presentation walks you through the leadership journey you go through as a project manager. It focuses on the skills you must master for this journey. It illuminates the transformation you must make from a 'doer' to a 'leader.' This and other IIL Learning in Minutes presentations qualify for PDUs. Some titles, such as Agile-related topics may qualify for other continuing education credits such as SEUs, or CEUs. Each professional development activity yields one PDU for one hour spent engaged in the activity. Some limitations apply and can be found in the Ways to Earn PDUs section that discusses PDU activities and associated policies. Fractions of PDUs may also be reported. The smallest increment of a PDU that can be reported is 0.25. This means that if you spent 15 minutes participating in a qualifying PDU activity, you may report 0.25 PDU. If you spend 30 minutes in a qualifying PDU activity, you may report 0.50 PDU.

We Don't Make Servers ...We Make Services: Implementing and Managing IT Services

By IIL Europe Ltd

We Don't Make Servers ...We Make Services: Implementing and Managing IT Services Implementing and Managing IT Services Being a service provider demands knowledge of who the customer is, what you as a provider offer customers (services), and assurance that those services provide value. Customers care about quality of service (e.g. the meal), and generally have little concern about the origin or performance of the ingredients that make it up (e.g. who does the maintenance on the grill). This session will discuss the concept of IT Service Management (ITSM), being a service provider, and the associated challenges, risks and critical success factors. You will learn about the importance, benefits and challenges of implementing and managing a formal IT Service Management (ITSM) practice for your IT organization and, ultimately, your company. This and other IIL Learning in Minutes presentations qualify for PDUs. Some titles, such as Agile-related topics may qualify for other continuing education credits such as SEUs, or CEUs. The Mission-Critical Project Manager - Why Our PMs Need (more) Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills

By IIL Europe Ltd

The Mission-Critical Project Manager - Why Our PMs Need (more) Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills Many project managers have achieved mastery of the "tools of the project management trade": they are great planners, effective managers of their project teams, heroic firefighters - in short, they are competent in delivering projects. However, the number of people who can identify a problem, articulate a strategy to address it, *and* translate that strategy into reality is very limited in most organizations. Today, the ability to deal with ambiguity and complexity, acknowledge and solve new problems, and deal with a high degree of uncertainty is in high demand. For such challenges there is little to be found in the conventional 'PM Toolbox.' Adding creative and critical thinking skills is a rewarding opportunity and can make the difference between being just another PM or a truly strategic asset. This and other IIL Learning in Minutes presentations qualify for PDUs. Some titles, such as Agile-related topics may qualify for other continuing education credits such as SEUs, or CEUs. Each professional development activity yields one PDU for one hour spent engaged in the activity. Blockchain for Project Management Blockchain is not just a buzzword; it is an exciting new technology that allows users to exchange sensitive data without the need for brokers and other third party mediators. Blockchain technology provides a disruptive new method of conducting transactions over the internet and will ultimately change how we do project management. Toyota Kata - What is it. Where Might it Fit. and Why?

By IIL Europe Ltd

Toyota Kata - What is it. Where Might it Fit. and Why? Future solutions are getting less and less likely to be ones we've used before. And even if we can draw on 'experience', it may represent the lowest form of innovation which may not be good enough; we are limiting ourselves to only what we know now.Agile is about mindset, not about process. Mindset can support agile behaviors or can hinder them. Improvement exercises involve multiple people or groups working on different parts of the puzzle; how they understand customer needs and how they collaborate to create a cohesive whole can greatly influence success. So the most important question becomes, 'How might we develop an Agile mindset?'The connection between Agile and Toyota Kata is intriguing. When you look into why, it's actually quite plain and simple. Further, when you have an understanding of Toyota Kata, how it came about and why, then its potential value to those adopting Agile shines through even more so. You will recognize the potential of the 2 unintentionally hidden managerial routines at Toyota from which 'Toyota Kata' was born."One of the best, compact introductions to Toyota Kata that I've seen!" (Quote by Mike Rother, author of 'Toyota Kata', following a presentation by Oscar in Austin TX in Feb 2020.) In this session you will: See the connection between Agile and Toyota Kata and their common ancestry See why the most success in the future will come to those who can rapidly adapt and innovate Understand that a concept or model alone generally won't change behaviors (and why), but a practice routine will Understand the 2 'Kata' patterns and get a feel for how you can start your application of them, one in particular
