Existential Dialogue 2025: "Difference" with Dr. Todd DuBose

By Therapy Harley Street

Sanity is privileged over insanity, which is stigmatized. A therapoet views differences without hierarchy, valuing each unique expression. We aim to explore the lived experiences on irregular perceptions of reality with an open mind. Each Saturday includes: a live dialogue between Prof. Ernesto Spinelli and an International Existential Therapist; a moment to share your thoughts and feelings with the teachers; and a final integration facilitated by Bárbara Godoy. This series of ten dialogues set out to explore the multifaceted dimentions and complexities associated with Existential Therapies. It attempts to engage with various interpretations of insanity through the lens of patients often painful, confounding, and deeply unsettling life experiences. Difference - between Prof. Ernesto Spinelli and Dr. Todd DuBose "Sanity and insanity have been situated in relation to each other on a hierarchical scale that privileges sanity over, beyond, above, and more than its “less than” subjugated copy, insanity. Framed in this way, insanity can only be stigmatized, devalued and pathologized, while sanity is that to which we are to strive, uphold, and genuflect. The therapoet as a phenomenological hermeneutic horizontalizes a spectrum of “sayings of suffering souls”, or “befallings”, which is the originally meaning of “symptom”, not as a pathogen to be excised. Countering supremacist hierarchies of sanity/insanity, or health/illness, the therapoet sees difference, not as deficient, but just different, anew, and not in relation to any centric norm, but just to other differences. The relation to other differences is a relative gradation, whose incomparability resists any kind of nothing-but-ism any more than a fish can be said to be nothing but a squirrel with fins, or dirt as nothing but dry water. The therapoet, therefore, attends to each showing or saying of the suffering soul, sufficient in itself, as it is, in its own way of presencing, by being with it, letting it be, without why.” Dr. Todd DuBose. Dr. Todd DuBose is a world-renowned, Distinguished Full Professor at The Chicago School’s College of Professional Psychology. He teaches philosophical foundations of practices of care, ethics, loss and mourning, psychology and spirituality, psychopathology, among other courses, all from a human science perspective, and with a particular focus on therapoetic care. He is a licensed psychologist, supervisor, consultant, and former chaplain, with over thirty-five years of experience. He holds degrees in continental and comparative philosophy of religion and existential-hermeneutical-phenomenological human science clinical psychology and integrates these approaches as a way of caring for such experiences as the impossible (no way out, boundary or limited situations), extreme experiences (such as psychosis, nihilism, suicidal and homicidal ideation), and the taboo (the places no one wants to go: the unwanted and unacceptable, unsayable, unforgiveable, forbidden, and irreverent). He regularly presents workshops in several international venues such as the Circulo de Estudios en Psicoterapia Existential, in Mexico City, Mexico, the Zhi Mian International Institute of Existential-Humanistic Psychology in Dali, China, and the Centre for Existential Practice in Melbourne, Australia. He is widely published and has written on caring for others in very difficult situations including traumatic loss, surviving the COVID-19 pandemic, and meaninglessness. He has also written a short dialogue with Miles Groth, edited by Loray Daws, called, Dialogues on The Soul of Existential Therapy, published by The Society for Existential Analysis. Most of all, he considers himself simply a fellow human being. Prof. Ernesto Spinelli was Chair of the Society for Existential Analysis between 1993 and 1999 and is a Life Member of the Society. His writings, lectures and seminars focus on the application of existential phenomenology to the arenas of therapy, supervision, psychology, and executive coaching. He is a Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS) as well as an APECS accredited executive coach and coaching supervisor. In 2000, he was the Recipient of BPS Division of Counselling Psychology Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Profession. And in 2019, Ernesto received the BPS Award for Distinguished Contribution to Practice. His most recent book, Practising Existential Therapy: The Relational World 2nd edition (Sage, 2015) has been widely praised as a major contribution to the advancement of existential theory and practice. Living up to the existential dictum that life is absurd, Ernesto is also the author of an on-going series of Private Eye novels. Mythology Course

3.5(2)

By Elearncollege

Description Mythology Diploma  Mythology comes from the Greek word mythos, which means 'the people's story, and logos which stands for 'speech' or 'word'. As the story suggests, it involves the study of fables and tales, often sacred, and interpretations of these stories. These stories are often culturally relevant and are referred to as myths. They mainly deal with various elements of the human condition like good and evil, the concept of suffering, the origins of humans, how places are given names, cultural values, animals, cultural traditions, the meaning that life and death hold, life after death, and God or dogs. These myths reflect the values and beliefs of the subjects of a particular culture to whom they belong.  Elearncollege offers a Mythology Diploma course that introduces various definitions of the term 'mythology' given by scholars. It provides ways in which the multiple tales about deities, heroes and monsters can be approached. It differentiates myths from other story-telling stories, like fairy tales and fables, and opens the discussion on the relationship between myths and history.  Myths of a cultural group tell stories about their ancestors, the origins of the world and humans, the gods, heroes with superhuman powers that a god has bestowed, and other supernatural beings like nymphs and mermaids and satyrs. They also include descriptions of the origins and nuances of customs practised for long periods. They may also be seen as attempts to explain certain natural events like sunrise, sunset, the moon cycle and seasons, and thunder and lightning storms. Myths are integral to civilization and are found all over the world. A belief framework similar to the idea of 'mythology' existed long before humans could communicate these beliefs in language. Carl Jung was a proponent of the view that myths are an essential element of our psyche that desires to discover order and meaning in this world that often presents itself as meaningless and filled with chaos.  The Mythology Diploma course offered by Elearncollege analyses the role played by women in past societies and looked at the representation of women in myths. It talks about how motherhood is portrayed, the classical idea of females, and the concept of women being described as victims and villains. The Mythology Diploma course deals with mythology's ideas like death and love and offers explanations. The course will give you a chance to learn about the most remarkable love stories and the meaning that these stories hold through the stories of Apollo and Aphrodite, Psyche and Eros, Eurydice and Orpheus, and the story of Pygmalion. Through the Mythology Diploma course, you will dive deep into tales and myths of ancient times, where you will be introduced to various situations and characters that will leave you astonished. You will be able to uncover the myths' meanings by gaining an insight into why they have such incredulous longevity. The Mythology Diploma course will prove appealing to those interested in mythology and history, as well as any individual who desires to know more about the human condition, as that would be revealed through the study of myths that have remained relevant to this day.  What you will learn   1:Introduction to Mythology  2:The Mythmakers in Ancient Greece and Rome  3:The Origin of Universe  4:The Original Gods and Goddesses  5:Folklore of the Mount Olympus  6:The Lesser Gods in Mythology  7:Some Mythical Creatures You Need to Know  8:The Greatest Heroes of Classical Mythology  9:The Trojan War and the Creation of Rome  10:Mythology in the Modern World  Course Outcomes After completing the course, you will receive a diploma certificate and an academic transcript from Elearn college. Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Course

3.5(2)

By Elearncollege

Description Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Diploma  This Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Diploma course pivots around Multiple Sclerosis, often called MS in short, an enfeebling condition characterised by possible symptoms ranging from movement anomalies, especially in the limbs, to an absence of balance and sensation. MS primarily impacts the spinal cord or brain and both in certain circumstances. MS is a chronic condition with no ultimate cure. Patients with MS may have moderate to severe disabilities, and their life expectancy may be lowered. However, it may be relieving to know that MS is not fatal. Many treatment options aim toward managing symptoms, enabling patients to lead a healthy and everyday life. The UK has recorded over 100,000 individuals diagnosed with the condition. Although there is no definite age for a person to be diagnosed with MS, the trends point toward individuals between the 20s to 30s. Moreover, there is a threefold increase in the likelihood of women getting diagnosed than men. This Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Diploma course aims to acquaint you with a deep understanding of MS and teach ways to extend your support to an individual or loved one who has fallen prey to the condition. People who are suspected of having MS should first consult their GP to rule out the possibility of other states. After running the required tests, the GP may redirect the candidate to a professional who specialises in the nervous system, called a neurologist. The neurologist may next do an MRI scan, and other procedures to rule out MS. 8 out of 10 people have relapse-remitting MS, which is characterised by new and worsening symptoms, often referred to as relapses. These symptoms usually worsen over a while, lasting weeks or, in severe cases, even months. In the unfortunate case of an individual undergoing relapse-remitting MS over several years or decades, they may experience secondary progressive MS (SPMS). SPMS is characterised by deteriorating symptoms but without evident attacks. Nevertheless, specific individuals may be bombarded with irregularly occurring relapses. 5 in 10 people ill with relapse-remitting MS develop SPMS. Moreover, the longer an individual has this condition, the higher the risk. At the outset, this Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Diploma course sheds light on the definition of Multiple Sclerosis, enumerates its types, states its prevalence and elucidates its diagnoses. The course goes on to delve deep into the process of diagnosing MS, the accessible treatments, resources and support. It provides an insight into the responsibilities of specialists who treat patients with MS. In the concluding chapters, you will be acquainted with the typical symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis, their effects on people, and ways to manage them. Multiple Sclerosis affects more than 100,000 individuals in the United Kingdom alone. This course is apt for individuals serving in the health care industry, especially those who have just started to care for patients with MS. This Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Diploma course will decipher the intricacies of MS, elucidating its causes and consequences, plus ways to identify symptoms and tips for management of those symptoms. This Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Diploma course is outlined to instil confidence in those wanting to extend emotional and physical support to an individual or loved one who has fallen victim to this enfeebling condition. What you will learn  1:Introduction to Multiple Sclerosis  2:Myths surrounding MS  3:Managing Disease Course and Relapses  4:Managing Common Symptoms of MS  5:Managing additional physical and mental problems  6:Complementary and Alternate medication  7:Staying Healthy  8:Living with MS  9:Parenting and MS  10:Creating safety nets  Course Outcomes After completing the course, you will receive a diploma certificate and an academic transcript from Elearn college.
