Nurturing an Innovative Team

By IIL Europe Ltd

Nurturing an Innovative Team Do you have an innovative team? Unfortunately, for many leaders, their initial answer may be 'no.' For some reason, they aren't getting the levels of innovation they want from their team and it can be difficult to figure out why this is happening. This talk introduces the 3 actions you must take if you are looking to nurture an innovative team: Embrace diversity within your team Leverage cross-functional working groups Avoid hierarchies and bottlenecks Participants will come away with an immediate understanding of how embracing diversity and establishing cross-functional groups will help break down organizational silos and encourage innovation. This and other IIL Learning in Minutes presentations qualify for PDUs. Some titles, such as Agile-related topics may qualify for other continuing education credits such as SEUs, or CEUs. Each professional development activity yields one PDU for one hour spent engaged in the activity. Some limitations apply and can be found in the Ways to Earn PDUs section that discusses PDU activities and associated policies. Fractions of PDUs may also be reported. The smallest increment of a PDU that can be reported is 0.25. This means that if you spent 15 minutes participating in a qualifying PDU activity, you may report 0.25 PDU. If you spend 30 minutes in a qualifying PDU activity, you may report 0.50 PDU.

The Power of Market-Creating Innovation

By IIL Europe Ltd

The Power of Market-Creating Innovation Innovation is a commonly used buzzword, but it has lost a lot of value because of its ubiquity. What do we mean by innovation? What types of innovation are there? How can understanding the different types of innovation help us do better work? Market-creating innovations transform complicated and expensive products into products that are simple and affordable so that many more people in society can have access to them. In doing so, these innovations create a new market because they target non-consumers. Efosa Ojomo explains the critical role of market-creating innovations in not only serving as new growth engines for companies, but also as a foundation for sustained economic development of a region. Using theories and models developed by Professor Clayton Christensen and his team, Ojomo demonstrates how innovations that create new markets impact peoples' lives, and challenges us to change how we think about innovation in our organizations.

Bridging the Gap with Agile

By IIL Europe Ltd

Bridging the Gap with Agile Learn how a large cloud-computing enterprise used Flawless ExecutionSM, a remarkably scalable agile business framework, across diverse business teams including their Marketing Team, Legal Team, C-Suite and even the Sales Group functional teams that are notorious for avoiding agile methodologies. As part of a major merger, the company sought to unite two sales teams that were not strategically aligned and didn't have a customer-focused mindset. Just as agile methodologies help developers keep the customer at the forefront of the conversation, this sales organization used the agile techniques and practices of Flawless ExecutionSM, to align around the customer's needs, scale best practices, and shift the culture to a more customer-centric mindset. Result: after an abysmal first half in 2016, the team rallied together after implementing Flawless Execution as their process of record over the summer and beat their sales forecast by 17% in Q4. This had an impact on morale for the 22,000-person company and even increased the stock price by 10%. This and other IILLearning in Minutes presentations qualify for PDUs. Some titles, such as Agile-related topicsmay qualify for othercontinuing education credits such as SEUs, or CEUs. Each professional development activity yields one PDU for one hour spent engaged in the activity. Use Fast Feedback to Accelerate Business Agility w/ David Grabel

By IIL Europe Ltd

Use Fast Feedback to Accelerate Business Agility w/ David Grabel Software engineers get feedback from their development environment and automated test suites in real-time. Errors can be fixed and verified in minutes. However, when organizations extend Agile beyond technology, feedback from stakeholders takes days and the 'feedback frenzies' can drag on for weeks or even months. Completing a story within a sprint seems impossible. It is time for 'the business' to dramatically reduce lead time and stop getting blamed for delays. This talk will show you how to quickly create a value stream mapping with your team. This map will expose needless delays and help you find ways to shorten cycle time to minutes, reducing overall lead time by 80% or more. It will include a way to overlay feedback loops on the value stream map, which can help you find the source of significant delays. You will also hear how creative teams are adapting mob programming techniques into their work in ways that build feedback into their processes in order to accelerate delivery from business teams.

The 14 BFO's (Blinding Flashes of the Obvious) Putting People (REALLY) First

By IIL Europe Ltd

The 14 BFO's (Blinding Flashes of the Obvious) Putting People (REALLY) First Autumn of 1985. It had been a grueling two days. A Manhattan seminar for 'YPO,' the Young Presidents Organization. They cut me no slack, and demanded my full attention, almost [drop the 'almost'] literally '24/7.' But it had gone well. Now it was coming to an end. And I wanted feedback. One guy I'd had really intense-and I thought terrific-exchanges with was Manny Garcia. He was either the biggest, or one of the top five, Burger King franchisees-he more or less 'owned' South Florida, with, as I recall, well over 100 shops. Manny put up his hand and I nodded in his direction. He began, 'Well, Tom, two long days-and I didn't learn one damn new thing.' Collectively people snapped to attention. As for me, call the ambulance and EMTs. Then he continued, 'I learned nothing new, but it was pretty clearly the best seminar I've ever attended. It amounted to a blinding flash of the obvious.' A BLINDING FLASH OF THE OBVIOUS: THE 'BFOs' ARE BORN.Manny continued, 'This 'excellence' thing is not rocket science, it's things we all know we should be doing. But somehow we get sidetracked. I am now determined I'm going home and putting on the front burner what in fact ought to be on the front burner.' Manny's comments stuck. And stick to this day. No rocket science. 'Obvious' 'stuff' that gets lost somehow, somewhere, amidst the cacophony of daily affairs.

We Don't Make Servers ...We Make Services: Implementing and Managing IT Services

By IIL Europe Ltd

We Don't Make Servers ...We Make Services: Implementing and Managing IT Services Implementing and Managing IT Services Being a service provider demands knowledge of who the customer is, what you as a provider offer customers (services), and assurance that those services provide value. Customers care about quality of service (e.g. the meal), and generally have little concern about the origin or performance of the ingredients that make it up (e.g. who does the maintenance on the grill). This session will discuss the concept of IT Service Management (ITSM), being a service provider, and the associated challenges, risks and critical success factors. You will learn about the importance, benefits and challenges of implementing and managing a formal IT Service Management (ITSM) practice for your IT organization and, ultimately, your company. This and other IIL Learning in Minutes presentations qualify for PDUs. Some titles, such as Agile-related topics may qualify for other continuing education credits such as SEUs, or CEUs.
