Music theory is the understanding of how music works. It's knowing why certain. music makes you feel happy, or why the soundtrack in action films makes the visuals so much more exciting. It's also an integral part of any music student's learning journey. For years it's been packaged as a boring set of rules which must be learned simply to pass an exam, but we aim to change this. Most music students will already have some knowledge of music theory, so each of our students receive a unique course plan which only covers topics they haven't already learned. On top of this, every student is paired with their own personal music theory tutor who supports their learning throughout their time on the course. More than a memory test Our aim is to teach our students to understand the logic and process behind every topic, rather than simply memorise lots of data to pass an exam. We know that the more deeply something is understood, the less likely it is to be forgotten.  Regular feedback to keep you on track Even with the best intentions, buying workbooks and downloading worksheets can't guarantee that the work will get done. As soon as we know what your goal is, we aim to help you get there in the most efficient time possible. Your tutor will set you work for each week and we will send you reminders when work is due.  Less pressure on instrumental teachers As a lot of our tutors are also instrumental music teachers, we know how hard it can be to fit music theory into a flute/trumpet/violin lesson, and we think that your instrumental teacher should be able to give their full attention to helping you improve on your chosen instrument. Get your money's worth from your instrumental lessons, whilst we get you through your theory exam.

Josh Bowker is a widely respected songwriter and singer, who has written songs which have had millions of online streams, and who now writes for smaller projects, and works with songwriters to help them get the best out of their song ideas. His intuitive and encouraging approach helps calm the tension that comes from writer’s block, and can touch on the things that songs need to go from average to great. Josh is passionate about getting people writing songs, and is always looking for new opportunities to bring his coaching to young people and those who might not otherwise have had the chance to work on their creative gifts. Hi - I'm Roland Wagstaff, founder and principal tutor at Persevere Music. I've been teaching guitar, bass guitar and music theory to private students in the Edinburgh area since 1998, but I've been playing since the early 1980s. I hold a Higher National Diploma in Modern Musicianship and an Enhanced Disclosure certificate. As well as teaching, I also perform and record with rock bands and function bands throughout Scotland and the wider UK and Europe. The main instruments I teach are electric bass and electric/acoustic guitar, encompassing most popular styles from rock, metal and punk to folk, jazz and funk. Whether you're a beginner or a more experienced player looking to take your skills to the next level, I tailor my lesson-plans to each individual student so you'll get the most out of my one-to-one classes and quickly begin to realise your musical potential.

Richard & Leila both studied music at Trinity Laban, London and have taught music students of all levels and ages. It is are main aim to make lessons as enjoyable as possible whilst giving a solid musical foundation. Richard has extensive experience teaching piano as well as classical, electric, bass and acoustic guitar lessons in primary and secondary schools (state & independent) as well as teaching students at college level. He has also run many ensembles and regularly prepares students for practical examinations in classical & pop. Leila is a very experienced instrumental teacher who has had a private teaching practice for many years. She has teaches a wide variety of instruments and has taught in both primary & secondary schools. Leila is also an experienced orchestral player & accompanist.

halton makefest & mako create

And breathe! After a whirlwind few months in which Mako Create, along with many partners and friends, took MakeFest 2022 from an idea to a fully-fledged festival of creativity we are so thankful for the roaring success it became. At the end of March we took over two units inside Runcorn Shopping City, cramming over 50 makers and a whole host of artistic activities into a single day of family fun. In the run up to the big day we had also curated a series of Maker Showcases, in which some of our makers joined us in Culture HQ to deliver exclusive workshops, and released on-demand video Premieres for everyone to enjoy and be inspired by at home.
