Please note that the course will take a minimum of 14 hours of independent learning with the option of completing further hours by covering more than one age bracket - the live sessions will be in addition to these 14 hours. Please ensure you allocate enough learning time to complete this course. It is expected that all independent learning is finished before the review events to enable you to fully participate in the discussions.

Details 
Using pre-recorded training, interactive on-line content (through Padlet), self-directed learning and live events, this substantial and comprehensive blended training course keeps delegates interested, engaged and learning new ways to bring excellence to their 24-hour postural care provision and focuses on the often neglected lying position and how unsupported lying drives changes to a person's body shape which impacts sitting, standing and functional movement. 
You will have access to the online learning from 10th Sept 2025 and be provided with all the information you will need to complete the course. At 1pm (BST) on 24th Sept you will then join the trainers for an introductory event via Zoom to provide an outline of the training and to answer any questions you may have. Over the next few weeks you can access the pre-recorded training videos and interactive online content to enable you to complete the workbook. On 22nd Oct  there will be a series of live discussion events for the specific ages the course covers to assess your learning (you must attend at least one of these events - please see below for further information). 

Why? 
People with complex needs, deserve a thorough, co-ordinated 24-hour postural care service. We only get one body and yet people with complex disabilities don't always get the 'annual service' afforded the equipment they use.
Posture Positive report (2020) found training is a key aspect to developing resilient and robust 24-hour postural care for people with complex needs. Every person with complex needs or limited movement requires a comprehensive 24-hour postural care service delivered in a personalised way. 

Who? 
The course is suitable for specialist physiotherapists, specialist occupational therapists and other highly trained healthcare professionals working in health, SEN and social care. 
The course breaks down the life span of a person as follows:
0-3 years
Children and young people in education
Adults
Older people and palliative care

Each delegate selects the aspects of the course relevant to their particular area of practice whilst having access to all the course resources.

On completion of the course, it is hoped delegates will be equipped with the knowledge needed to deliver an outstanding, person-centred, 24-hour postural care service.

You can focus on one specific age group or take a general approach allowing you to adapt the course to meet your own learning objectives. 

On 22nd Oct the final live review events with the trainers via Zoom are available for the specific ages that the course covers. You must attend at least one of these live discussion (the one most relevant to your practice) but you are welcome to join all four.

This 3-hours CPD certified on-demand course introduces practitioners (who are not a qualified Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist) to 24-hour Postural Care.

24-hour Postural Care is essential for people with limited movement to promote comfort and prevent the development of life-limiting, complex body shape changes. This on-demand course introduces the key principles and current research around the delivery of 24-hour Postural Care for people who have limited movements whether transient (rehabilitation after a stroke or chronic). It particularly focuses on the lying posture.

Introduction to 24-hour Postural Care for Physios and OTs


This specialist course is aimed at supporting the workforce in low- to middle- income countries using Nest equipment to provide postural care safely and effectively.

This course covers:
The impact of unsupported lying when a person is not able to move freely
What will happen to a person's body over time if they are not supported
The benefit of supported lying to help protect body shape, function and comfort 
Principles in using Nest equipment to support people whether they are lying during the day or night
Safety considerations and outcome measures

Supported lying is central to delivering 24-hour postural care. Not only can it help to reduce pain, improve sleep, prevent health problems, but it supports people with disabilities to live better lives. This training aims to equip local providers to deliver standardised training to the local workforce.
