This course is designed to give the learner the knowledge and skills needed to effectively support a person with down syndrome. It provides information regarding causes of the condition genetics & screening, behaviours, practical support and how to promote effective communication.

We will discuss menopause-related nutrition, focus on foods rich in calcium and vitamin D to support bone health, and emphasise the food groups that ensure a high intake of vitamins, minerals, and fibre We will also look at how to include whole grains to promote heart health, which is particularly important as the risk of heart disease increases after menopause and discuss the benefits of soy and soy products, as they contain phytoestrogens, which may help balance hormones. We will have a cooking demonstration as part of the workshop, discuss meal planning and have a Q&A with our nutrition expert At the end of the cooking session we will eat together as a group This event includes sample recipes and a free meal kit to cook at home. £5 per ticket

We'll enhance the evening with some history and cultural knowledge including Filipino eating etiquette. The meals are based on a vegetarian diet which can be adapted at home and do contain allergens (soy, sesame). Please advise if you have a vegan diet or specific allergen. Who Should Attend Those working towards their King's Badge (16 to 18 years old). Course Description Young people are required to participate in a practical course focusing on developing new and existing skills for work towards the King's Badge. The course is designed to help prepare and support the young person in an element of their King's Badge programme. Participants take part in problem solving, games and group activities. (Other courses are available through local Battalions). The cost is £9 per participant, you can pay by card while booking or select cash and we will invoice on receipt of entries. The venue for each of these courses is Battalion HQ.
