This is an essential programme for any member of staff whose role requires a high level of attention to detail. The focus is specifically on the handling of text and data, whether at the input stage or when collating information into reports and documents for use by others. The session looks at both prevention and cure. For 'prevention', it focuses on understanding how common errors occur and on developing an awareness of the factors which influence our level of attentiveness. It introduces key psychological theories around attentiveness including the 'capacity' and 'bottleneck filter' models. And it looks at how working styles can affect attention to detail. For 'cure', the programme looks at how to minimise the effect of stress on concentration as well as introducing a number of tools and techniques for promoting accuracy - at both the input and the checking stages. Particular attention is paid to proof-reading techniques. Nowadays not only do we rely on our commercial and sales staff to hit that bottom line but we expect our engineers and project teams to play their part too - not only through their engineering and management skills but by behaving in a commercially minded way in their dealings with their counterparts in customer or supplier organisations. This means understanding, amongst other things, the issues surrounding the commencement of work ahead of contract, having a clear contract baseline, recognising the broader implications of contract change, the need for timeliness and the consequences of failing to meet the contracted timetable. This practical one-day programme has been designed specifically to give engineers, project staff and others just that understanding. The course is designed principally to provide engineers and project staff with an appreciation of contractual obligations, liabilities, rights and remedies so that they understand the implications of their actions. It is also suitable for business development staff who are negotiating contracts on behalf of the business. The main focus of the day is on creating an awareness of when a situation may have commercial implications that would harm an organisation's business interests if not recognised and handled appropriately and how taking a positive but more commercial approach to those situations can lead to a more positive outcome for the business. As well as providing an understanding of the commercial imperatives the day also focuses on specific areas affecting engineers and project staff, such as the recognition and management of change, the risks when working outside the contract and managing delays in contracts. The course identifies the different remedies that may apply according to the reasons for the delay and provides some thoughts on pushing back should such situations arise. This qualification is aimed those who carry out supervisory activities in a specific trade in the Construction Industry. The qualification certificate will carry an endorsement to show what trades the candidate was supervising during completion of this qualification. The qualification has a core group of 5 mandatory units that cover areas including Health and Safety, confirming work requirements and coordinating work operations. The qualification also has a group of optional units to allow flexibility to suit individual needs and responsibilities and completion of mandatory units and a minimum of 2 units from the optional group will give access to the relevant CSCS card. This qualification replaces version 1 of the GQA Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Work Supervision (Construction) QAN 601/3469/0 for anyone starting the qualification from 01/11/2019. What is required from candidates? This qualification consists of 5 mandatory units, which have a total of 57 credits and a group of optional units. Candidates must complete all 5 mandatory units and a minimum of 2 units from the optional group. GQA qualifications are made up of units that have a credit value or credits. These credits must be achieved in the correct combination of mandatory and optional units. Qualifications are now required to indicate the total qualification time (TQT), this is to show the typical time it will take someone to attain the required skills and knowledge to meet the qualification criteria. The units of assessment set out learning outcomes which describe what learners need to be able to do and understand. The learning outcomes are defined by assessment criteria which are used to assess competence, expressed as skills achieved and learned knowledge and understanding, to achieve the units. Achievement of the mandatory units and chosen optional units will mean the qualification has been completed and will be subject to approval of a claim for certification. GQA Qualifications will issue a certificate complete with the learner’s name, the qualification and unit titles and the credits achieved.
