HSE will prosecute in cases where there is a significant risk, a disregard for established standards or persistent poor compliance with the law. HSE First Aid at Work – IMPORTANT! After 1st October 2013 the HSE is no longer responsible for approving providers of First Aid at Work courses. Providers must be approved by an Ofqual or SQA Awarding Body. It is tailored for those who work in environments that require both First Aiders and Peadiatric First Aiders, such as schools, sports clubs or childcare facilities. This streamlined approach maximises efficiency and saves time for those seeking both certifications.

This qualification is valid for 3 years although HSE guidelines state that employers should ensure their first aiders remain competent to perform their role. As such, it is strongly recommended that first aiders undertake annual refresher training to practise their skills and update their knowledge on the latest first aid procedures. To qualify for a 2 day refresher course candidates must have an in date Level 3 First Aid At Work qualification.
