Effective supervision offers many opportunities for learning and growth, as well as providing invaluable support. Successfully completing this training will enable you to work as a supervisor-tutor with Part 3 trainees and as a supervisor with qualified HG therapists. What you will learn What HG supervision is and an understanding of the governance framework A structured approach to supporting a trainee though Part 3 How to support an experienced therapist How learning and memory works and why this matters How to use a range of supervisory approaches, methods and techniques How to assess and give feedback and how to notice if that has been received A deeper understanding of ethics, your role and your responsibilities How to address concerns about supervisees How to support a supervisee who is subject to a complaint   The HG Supervisor-tutor’s Role How you will be assessed This course is designed to enhance the growth and development of your knowledge and skills, your understanding and practice and to assess your competence as a supervisor-tutor. It is therefore a combination of assessment and learning. Throughout the course, therapists practise and demonstrate through discussion, exploration and reflection, a broad range of skills and topics. Assessment will be on-going throughout the course by the two highly experienced tutors and you will also be given feedback from your peers and the experienced facilitators. Course requirements: To apply, you must be an experienced HG therapist who has delivered a minimum of 1,000 sessions of one-to-one HG therapy and is registered with the HGI You must have the support of your supervisor/s, and Submit the information required by the application process by the deadline (this will be announced when we have the next course dates available, provisionally Spring 2025). Course Dates The HG Supervisor course is made up of two blocks of 3 days, held approx. a month apart. We typically run our supervisor training once every 18–24 months. It is vitally important that all adults working with a child with Down syndrome understands their learning needs and how to meet these needs. All teaching staff are welcome to join our Introduction to Down syndrome course for FREE. It will run at the beginning of each term. To enhance your practice further we suggest staff working closely with the child are also trained in signing, using visuals to support language development and teaching basic number skills. Each term these additional three courses will follow on from the Introduction to Down syndrome course over several weeks.

Puppy training classes and dog training classes are suitable for general dog training and relationship building. Classes are run in line with the IMDT (Institute of Modern Dog Traioners) code of ethics, and training techniques are based upon positive reinforcement, using dog treats or dog toys and play as rewards for completing the actions we ask the puppy or dog to complete.    Classes will be limited to 6 people, to ensure I can circulate and provide individual feedback relevant to your puppy or dog training. We will teach foundation behaviours, with the benefit of being in a dog training class environment, which relies on your dog working around the distraction of other dogs. Classes will also teach you to effectively communicate with your dog and give you the skills to practice outside of classes and implement the training in your every day life, in a rage of environments. Puppy training classes and Dog training classes last 1 hour. They are run on Friday mornings in Bishop's Stortford. Let’s make it visual — using visual resources to develop the language, communication and literacy skills of children with Down syndromeThis 3 hour course will cover why the written word is used as a visual tool to develop language skills. Methods to develop clarity of speech, grammar, vocabulary, and lengthen sentence utterance will be discussed and illustrated. It will also detail visual timetables, conversation diaries and ideas to develop reading, writing and spelling skills.
