Qualification Information Upon completion students will have developed the skills and knowledge needed to provide effective emergency first aid to children and babies. This qualification and learning outcomes are based on the recommendations of: The Resuscitation Council (UK) Skills for Health Assessment Principles for First Aid Qualifications Course Content Following this course students will be able to Understand the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider. Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is choking. Be able to assess an emergency situation safely. Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child with external bleeding. Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and breathing normally. Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child who is suffering from shock. Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally. Understand how to administer first aid to an infant and a child with bites, stings and minor injuries. Who should attend? This qualification is for anyone who cares for children and babies; including parents, guardians, grandparents or people who have a professional involvement with children and babies. Pre-requisites Students must be at least 16 years old on the first day of training. Assessment and Certifications Assessment of this course is continuous and also includes 1 theory/multiple choice question paper. Successful students will receive an Immerse Training Certificate, which is valid for three years. This certificate will be issued by Qualsafe, the awarding body for Immerse Training. Additional Information Completion of the Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid at Work includes 1 credit at Level 2 of the Qualification Credit Framework (QCF). I've added this two day workshop because a one day workshop gives you the basics, but two days will allow you to develop your carving technique and use additional knife grasps.  By embedding good technique into the way you carve, you will avoid injuries and additional regular stretching will help you to look after your body. You will leave with the knowledge and confidence to carve safely at home.  You will have access to a range of different tools, starting with the axe to rough out spoon blanks - I have a good range of axes you can try from budget to the Gransfors large carving axe. Next using the Mora wood carving knives (105/106/120) to shape your blanks into spoons following traditional designs for optimising strength and utility. I also have a range of hook knives to try out. Using these traditional tools you will make a spoon from local and sustainable fresh cut green wood (usually willow/birch/alder or cherry) - starting with a log and leaving with a spoon. From the initial splitting of the log, trimming it down with an axe, to carving finer details and decorations with chip carving knives. This course is located close to central Edinburgh and is accessible by public transport.  Depending on the weather it can be inside or outdoors in the wildlife garden. Did you know that incorrect manual handling is one of the most common causes of injury at work?  The QA Level 2 Award in Principles of Manual Handling (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification, designed to cover the basic principles of manual handling.  This theory-based qualification is ideal for all employees as it provides candidates with an awareness of safe manual handling practices and the risks of unsafe manual handling.  With subjects covered in just half a day, this course is an ideal way to reduce the risk of workplace manual handling injuries, whilst minimising disruption to your organisation’s day to day activities!  Please note that this qualification does not include practical sessions. Those requiring practical training should undertake the QA Level 2 Award in Safe Moving and Handling (RQF).

The First Aid at Work qualification is the most comprehensive of all our first aid qualifications, and covers a wide range of skills which can be used within a workplace first aid situation, including: assessing the scene, managing an unresponsive casualty, CPR, heart attacks, choking, head and spinal injuries, fractures, anaphylaxis, plus much more.

To be able to provide First Aid in the workplace, as identified by the workplace risk assessment, and to a standard recognised by the HSE. This course is designed for people who want to receive our most thorough first aid training.

The Paediatric First aid course provides the comprehensive set of practical skills needed by first aiders in childcare settings. Giving both the ability and knowledge to deal with first aid emergencies and common childhood illnesses. It meets the standards required to help comply with Ofsted regulations.

The three-day FAW course is our most thorough First Aid course. It is designed for you if you are a nominated First Aider in a hazardous environment, such as a factory or a construction site, as well as providing you with complete training for any other work situation.

Alien spoons? Well, only because it is a memorable name and some of the knife grasps feel a bit alien to start with. You will soon get to grips with them and the focus of this workshop is learning to use safe and efficient carving techniques with hand tools - the axe, straight knives and hook knives... maybe also a drawknife on a shave horse. By following good technique you will avoid injuries and with regular stretching this will help you to look after your body as well as the tools. You should leave with the knowledge and confidence to carve safely at home. The tools are relatively cheap and easy to use in a small space. You will have access to a range of tools, but primarily use the Mora wood carving knives (106/120/164s) and be shown traditional designs for optimising strength and utility. Using these traditional tools you will make a spoon from local and sustainable fresh cut green wood - starting with a log and leaving with a spoon. From the initial splitting of the log with a froe or axe, trimming this down with an axe, and on to carving finer details and decorations with knives. Additional skills in building a shave horse and other green wood working can also be taught. This course is run from close to central Edinburgh and is accessible by public transport.  Depending on the weather it can be inside or outdoors in the wildlife garden.
