Let’s make it visual — using visual resources to develop the language, communication and literacy skills of children with Down syndromeThis 3 hour course will cover why the written word is used as a visual tool to develop language skills. Methods to develop clarity of speech, grammar, vocabulary, and lengthen sentence utterance will be discussed and illustrated. It will also detail visual timetables, conversation diaries and ideas to develop reading, writing and spelling skills.

The inclusion of children with Down syndrome - expectations of behaviour By considering the learning profile of a child with Down syndrome and looking at areas of need this one day course will aim to address areas where difficult behaviours may develop. It will look at expectations, appropriate behaviour, including self help skills and go on to outline positive strategies by focusing on wanted behaviour.

This course is delivered over two 2 hour sessions. The first session covers why we use signing with children with Down syndrome and the signs for manners, animals, food, family and other people, and the alphabet. The second session covers signs for the home, school day, colours, descriptions, time/days, questions and connective/link words. Followed by a discussion on how behaviour can be addressed through introducing signing.

The Level 3 International Foundation Diploma for Higher Education Studies (L3IFDHES) is usually a one-year pre-university qualification that provides students with an entry route to an overseas university. The L3IFDHES prepares students with the essential English language skills, key transferable study skills, cultural knowledge, and chosen specialisms that universities feel bridges the gap between high school and undergraduate study. In January 2023 we offer pathways in business and higher finance. With agreements in place with over 70 universities across the globe, students’ can progress with confidence to a higher education course for further study. Entry Requirements For entry onto the NCC Education Level 3 International Foundation Diploma for Higher Education Studies (L3IFDHES) qualification students must have successfully completed secondary school education. Students must also meet the English language entry requirements of: • IELTS minimum score of 4.5 or above OR • GCE ‘O’ Level English D7 or above Alternatively, a student can take the free NCC Education Higher English Placement Test which is administered by our Accredited Partner Centre’s.

This qualification is designed to provide benefit to learners on the basis that it prepares them for deployment as an Activator in Multi-Skills. Minimum numbers apply. Successful achievement of the qualification will enable Activators in Multi-Skills to facilitate extra-curricular activities within educational settings including schools, further and higher education and community participation programmes. Who is the course for? Learners that attend this course can be volunteers in a range of sport and community environments, young people, parent helpers or anyone that wishes to become an activator in multi-skills. What will I achieve? The qualification will enable successful learners to progress to a sports specific coaching qualification.
