I’ve been working with herbs for more than a decade. Initially it was a passion for learning more about the plants that grew about me through foraging and home herbalism. Then I began to focus on growing them when I spent a year working on the herb field at the Organic Herb Trading Company. Finally I trained as a herbalist at the Irish School of Herbal Medicine for 4 years, which included 600 clinic hours and an in-depth study of herbs, the human body and vitalism. I graduated with a Licentiate in Herbal Medicine and diploma in Iridology and Nutrition in 2017 and I am now in my 5th year of working as a herbalist in Fife. My previous background is in organic food production and I previously co-established and ran Meadowsweet Organics’ market garden in Falkland, Fife. My herbal business was previously called The Meadowsweet Herbal Apothecary in connection to the farm, and I grew lots of medicinal herbs for tea blends, wholesale and my own dispensary.

The Association of Master Herbalists was founded in 1995. The Association has from the beginning, had a strong affinity to the North American eclectic school, notably Dr John R Christopher who was the founder of the School of Natural Healing in 1953. The school in the USA continues to this day to run it’s traditional Master Herbalist training based on the work of Dr Christopher. Master Herbalists are registered members of the AMH (Association of Master Herbalists) who have qualified after a suitably recognised professional training which is to a degree or equivalent level with over 2,500 hours of classroom based study with an additional 500 hours of clinical patient training. All members are fully insured and work to a strict code of conduct and ethics.

The Hafod Walled Garden Group or H.W.G.G. began in October 2018 when a group of Hafod estate residents met to discuss the possibility of forming a group to take over the recently vacated Hafod walled garden tenancy. Subsequent meetings produced a ‘Not for Profit Community Interest Company’ comprising of six directors, who were able to commit to not only the legal and financial responsibilities but also with a passion and interest in the direction and hoped for outcomes of the project.
