Founded in 1940 as an independent, voluntary association of six local youth clubs. Today, we are a regional voluntary youth organisation (RVYO), a registered charity and limited company with a membership of 120 local youth organisations. Our mission is to support the personal development and social education of children & young people and to promote good relations and community development. Each year we work directly with around 2500 young people, staff, and volunteers. We deliver membership support services, training, networking opportunities, policy guidance, youth projects, and an extensive programme of youth activities. Our current youth work priorities are about supporting young people’s health & well-being, life skills, physical activities, training & development projects, and information & support services. We aim to create conditions that inspire and enable young people to be their best in the pursuit of shared goals.

imagine! belfast festival of ideas & politics

The 8th Imagine! Belfast Festival proved to be a successful offering involving 147 events and 359 speakers & performers during 21-27 March 2022. The eclectic week of talks, workshops, theatre, poetry, comedy, music, exhibitions, film and tours attracted an audience of 9,210 online and in-person attendees. Most of the events (82%) were free as the festival returned to live events after two years operating online. Although Covid continued to impact on our programme with 17 events cancelled due to illness, we were still able to roll out a huge range of events including headliners such as Michael Ignatieff, Tom Robinson, Helen Thompson, Michael Longley, Ece Temelkuran, Bill Neely and a host of exciting arts and cultural events – with many sold out or oversubscribed. We have conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the festival through an audience survey(3.5% sample). Our survey found that 95% of respondents felt the festival satisfied their expectations. It was particularly pleasing to find that 60% of audience members were attending a festival event for the first time and 37% of the sample had never been to a festival venue before, which suggests that we were able to reach new audiences and introduce them to new venues and partners. Other outcomes included: 12% of attendees came from outside Northern Ireland. Of these, 13% stated the festival was the main reason they were visiting Belfast. PR value: £545,644 Positive feedback was also elicited from survey respondents, detailed as follows: 95% of respondents felt the festival satisfied their expectations with only 1% reporting dissatisfaction (increased from 94% in 2021) 95.3% of people answered the question ‘after attending the festival, would you be more likely to attend other politics-related events’ (88% last year) 97.8 of respondents stated they were more likely to recommend the festival to family and friends after attending one of our events with 1.6% stating they felt the same When asked whether the festival promotes Belfast and Northern Ireland in a positive way, 98.4% said yes, with 1.6% responding as ‘don’t know’ People appeared to be reasonably well informed about the festival. 92% of the sample stated they were either well or somewhat informed about the festival prior to attending an event Respondents overwhelmingly found the subject matter of the event/performance as the main reason for attending the festival. However, familiarity with the speaker/performer was also cited as a factor. We also asked whether respondents considered themselves to be disadvantaged and found that 21% of the sample considered themselves to fall into this category which suggests were able to significantly engage with vulnerable and less well-off sections of the community. We invited the public to suggest and organise events in November 2021 and received a record 98 proposals, most of which we were able to support. This was a higher than expected level of public participation in the festival which resulted in more events than planned taking place in the 2022 programme. We also had a greater variety of events with more place-making events, exhibitions, music and discussions/workshop events compared to previous years.

Falls Women’s Centre was established in 1982 in West Belfast by local women in order to improve the quality of life for women and their families living in areas of extreme deprivation and most affected by the conflict. It is based in West Belfast, a community recognised as one of the poorest in Western Europe. The Falls Women’s Centre was the first of its kind in the area and has continually worked to raise awareness within the community and with statutory agencies on issues that affect women’s lives. The Falls Women's Centre is a community development organisation which, through long term experience and expertise, responds quickly and appropriately to community needs. “These needs are not static but change and evolve as communities themselves change and evolve over time”. The Falls Women’s Centre is a women-only centre. It is staffed and managed entirely by women and is seen as an important support for the community locally, nationally and internationally. It is used as a referral point by community, voluntary and statutory agencies. The Falls Women’s Centre/Ionad Mhná na bhFál is involved in the economic development of the community and continues to support women’s development within the area through the provision of training, education, childcare, advice, advocacy, counselling, health and well-being.

I'm a previously P.E hating yoga fanatic who been practising yoga for 24 years and teaching for 7. I always saw myself as a nerdy, non-athletic kid in school until I discovered yoga and the benefits it has on both the body and the mind. When I was going through my teacher training I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Although this diagnosis has been in a lot of ways a negative for me there has also been positives. It has changed the way I practise yoga and the way I teach - it has made me so aware of how yoga can help people with physical limitations like me own, and how it can help people deal with mental affects of these conditions. I am now a Yoga Alliance, British Wheel of Yoga and Yoga Federation of Northern Ireland certified teacher who was nominated for Yoga Provider of the Year 2019 in the Health and Fitness Awards NI and winner of the Yoga Instructor of the Year 2020/2021 in the Prestige awards Northern Ireland, specialising in a completely inclusive yoga, bringing yoga to everyone no matter what your physical limitations are. I bring yoga to people who aren't able to go to a 'standard' class, people who can't leave the house, people who didn't think yoga could ever be something they could do.

We are a Community Interest Company based at 3-7 Hannahstown Rd, Lisburn BT28 3TB. WE deliver an educational and mental wellbeing service to youth and adult off road riders. We offer training for novice youth / adult off road riders. We cover all aspects of off road riding, MX, Trials and Enduro and deliver this province wide with additional locations in Craigavon, Newry and Newtownards. We specialise in Trials and Hard Enduro and offer 1 to 1 and small group training packages. For further details please get in touch. Our ethos is Technique over Speed, we believe that before you can ride fast you must first master how to ride slowly. Our training track is a technical turn track designed to keep the riders thinking and help to develop there confidence and technique. We also run events specifically aimed at the novice riders to introduce them to the world of Enduro, we achieve this by ensuring everything is relaxed and we encourage a competitive spirit amonsgt the riders. All under 18s must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. The mental well being and mental health is vital within our communities and off road motorcycling is a proven release for many, we are also helping to keep our communities safer by providing a controlled environment for off-road motorcycling.

We are delighted to welcome our new Executive Director Paul Smyth, who comes to us with a wealth of experience and a strong reputation for ground breaking youth work. I am thrilled to have taken up the post of Executive Director with Politics in Action – and I want to start by congratulating my predecessor Patricia O’Lynn on her election to the Northern Ireland Assembly. We live in a turbulent time for politics around the world, nationally and locally – and this makes the work of supporting young people’s role as active citizens more challenging and even more important. We are emerging from a global pandemic which has put unprecedented restrictions on the lives and freedoms of young people, and which has impacted their learning, their social lives, their relationships and for some their mental health. Politics in Action responded proactively to these challenges by moving workshops online and ensuring continuity. I am optimisticwe can return to largely face-to-face delivery of our programmes with young people in schools and other settings, and can find new ways of engaging with more young people and in particular those who are not normally invited into conversations about politics and citizenship. Much of what we already do is in collaboration with schools and with other youth organisations. I see so much potential for additional collaborations that allow our little charity to punch above its weight. One of the many attractions of the role is the excellent Board of Trustees who provide strong governance, leadership and vision for Politics in Action. They bring significant social and political capital to the charity and use it in the interests of young people and our shared future. Youth Development – providing training, information and support to young people. Annually, our youth team engage with around 900 young people across a suite of projects. We deliver schools-based Good Relations training, an internet safety project, sixth form enrichment training, and shared education. Our centre based projects include the Duke of Edinburgh Award/Gaisce – The President's Award, volunteer training, the NI National Citizen Service project and Youth in Government. Family Support – providing childcare, after school programmes and holiday clubs. Health & Fitness – providing facilities for sport and fitness for a healthy lifestyle. Community Engagement – promoting reconciliation through responding to the hurts and issues facing people in a divided community which is emerging from conflict. Social Enterprise – developing initiatives which meet our charitable objectives through providing a viable service to the community. All income generated is invested back into our charitable projects.
