I have been making pieces in copper foil stained glass for the last six years. It all started when I enrolled in an adult education course at my local college. Deciding that I wanted one evening a week to do something completely different and creative, the stained glass course jumped out of the page of the brochure at me. After only three evenings of learning, I was totally hooked, counting down the days until the next Wednesday! Not only was it exciting to be learning such a traditional craft, but I got to meet such a wonderful group of people in my class, all from very different walks of life. Some aspects were highly frustrating, cutting glass was the first hurdle to overcome. I practised in between lessons and started to get the hang of it after quite a few glass cuts! Next, soldering would prove to be a real challenge. When melted, it seemed to have its own mind and didn’t want to flow where you were expecting it to. It took all of us many weeks to learn the various stages of producing what seems now, a very small and untidy first piece of work. But the pride in having made something from start to finish was immense. By this time, it was November and Christmas was approaching fast. I had decided to put my new found craft to use and make a few small Christmas decorations as presents for family. Friends at work were intrigued by my new hobby, and as soon as I had finished making the decorations, I took them in to work so they could see what I had spent all my free time obsessing over! On the first day I took them in, I had twelve requests to make some more! I was elated that people liked my work so much, they were willing to pay me for it. I was also slightly concerned that it was only a couple of weeks until we finished for Christmas! But I accepted the challenge and decided I had to aim to make one decoration per evening. The intense practise meant my glass cutting and soldering skills improved rapidly. All the orders were completed just in time and I had earned money from doing something I absolutely loved. The money was re- invested in to buying more sheets of glass!

I run small workshops in glass fusing, stained glass & glass painting. The classes are fun & relaxed, and you get to take home a piece of art at the end of the session. All workshops vary in length from 3hrs to 2 days, and can be booked online.

The Silver Zebra studio was established in 2004 and is situated in the beautiful county of Cheshire adjacent to the families farmhouse. Stevie Davies Glass Artist & Tutor.  I love being a professional, full time creative, running my thriving studio gallery in Wirksworth, Derbyshire and sharing my passion for glass and all things hand crafted. With over 17 years experience of working with glass, exhibiting and teaching, I have a lot of talk about :)  Glass is such a beautiful material – it is very familiar to us but can be unpredictable and I find that a lot of my process plays with the dual nature of glass. It is solid and translucent, hard but delicate. I like to highlight the surface shine of glass by applying specific finishes and individual handmade elements.  One of my passions is teaching others to design and create with glass through teaching workshops and creating make at home kits. Enabling you to have a go and play with glass brings me a lot of joy!

Ruth Summers (she/her) has been creating bespoke glass art since 1998 and runs workshops teaching the skills of stained glass where you can create your own small copper foiled stained glass creation or unique sun-catcher which you can take home with you at the end of the day. * Half Day Taster Workshop – 3 hour (for 1 or ‘you & a friend’) * Full Day Workshop (for 1 or ‘you & a friend’) Prior to the workshop we will work together to design your glass piece so your pattern is ready to be brought to life on the day. With an excellence in design, glass painting, and drawing, Stained Glassic offers its services to a wide variety of global clients.  It covers traditional as well as contemporary methods and styles of stained glass making. Jamal has an interest in the visual arts and music since he was 5 years old. He always had meticulous eyes when it comes to observe and artistically interpret the visual world. His creative abilities enabled him to draw and paint with ease. Old school observation based skills of drawing and painting feature his work that one rarely experiences nowadays in modern artworks. Stained Glassic has a commitment to never send a commission out until the artist and the client are fully satisfied with the final outcome.

DURING HIS TIME AT HARDMAN STUDIO, HE EXPLORED (PUGIN'S) THEORY AND (HARDMAN'S) PRACTICE OF GOTHIC REVIVAL STAINED GLASS. THROUGH STAINED GLASS RESTORATION, HE HAS MASTERED IN MULTIPLE GLASS PAINTING STYLES AND TECHNIQUES USED IN MEDIEVAL, ARTS & CRAFTS, PRE-RAPHAELITES AND GOTHIC REVIVAL STAINED GLASS. WITH OVER 23 YEARS OF ARTS PRACTICE, HE HAS ESTABLISHED HIMSELF AS A FREELANCE ARTIST AND EDUCATOR. JAMAL DESIGNS, MANUFACTURES, RESTORES AND CONSERVES HAND-PAINTED STAINED GLASS FOR A VARIETY OF NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL CLIENTS FROM HIS LITTLE STUDIO IN BIRMINGHAM. Originally from North Devon, I have lived and worked in various countries, particularly the Middle East and Mediterranean, and have been both influenced and inspired by the different cultures and architecture from my travels.  This combined with my keen interest in the environment, nature and the landscape, has provided me with the possibility of creating unique and individual pieces, whilst helping to preserve the natural beauty that surrounds us.   In 2003 I wanted these bright and cheerful mosaics to  withstand all weather conditions so through experimentation I developed this process.  My mosaic mirrors, panels and lamps and balls are designed for both indoor and all year garden display.   They can be used as wall panels – a feature among climbing plants, placed in a gloomy corner, floated on ponds and lakes, hung from trees or filled with solar lights all bringing a splash of colour to our dormant winter landscapes or creating a hint of “The Secret Garden’ beyond. I run a number of different courses and workshops every month to teach this uplifting and cheerful skill whether just as a day out with friends, learning a new hobby or wanting to  improve your skill.  Please contact me for more information.
