This full-day intermediate workshop is suitable for anyone who has attended our beginners Silver clay taster or Introduction to silver clay jewellery workshops, or has experience of working with metal clay.
On this workshop, taught by Edinburgh&nbsp;jeweller and silver clay specialist Anna Campbell, you will learn the traditional skill of soldering to advance your jewellery-making skills in order to make different types of jewellery including stud earrings and cufflinks.
This is the perfect follow-on&nbsp;to&nbsp;the beginners workshops, and has been requested by our participants! It&rsquo;s also the right workshop for you if you want to make jewellery to sell, or simply wish to make unique pieces&nbsp;for yourself, or as gifts&nbsp;for friends.&nbsp;
We will begin by&nbsp;designing and making&nbsp;stud earrings, cufflinks and a pendant out of silver clay. This part serves as a good recap on what you&rsquo;ve learnt previously.&nbsp;We will spend the majority of our time focussing on the skill of soldering. You will learn:

We will cover two different types of soldering, talk about&nbsp;the equipment and materials you need (not much more than for working with silver clay), troubleshooting and more. You will have plenty of supervised practice, and by the end of the day you should have the confidence and skills you need to start making soldered silver clay jewellery&nbsp;at home.&nbsp;

Master the art of soldering: a jewellery workshop for metal clay artists
Designed for jewellery makers who work with metal clay but haven’t yet ventured into soldering, this full-day workshop is the perfect next step in advancing your skills. 
Originally created by your tutor Anna Campbell, one of the leading metal clay teachers in the UK, for the London Jewellery School, this intermediate course was developed in response to student requests for a follow-up to beginners’ silver clay class, offering a deeper dive into traditional jewellery-making techniques.
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the essential skill of soldering, enabling you to expand your creative possibilities by crafting different types of jewellery, including stud earrings, cufflinks, and pendants. Whether you’re looking to start selling your jewellery, or simply want to create high-quality pieces for yourself or as gifts, this course is tailored to help you achieve your goals.
What you'll learn and create
Design and create with silver clay
As a refresher, we’ll start by designing and crafting stud earrings, cufflinks, and a pendant using silver clay, reminding you of the techniques you’ve already learned (don’t worry if it’s been a while, we’ll cover it step-by-step). 
Soldering techniques
The majority of the day will focus on mastering the art of soldering, where you’ll learn:
How to solder earring posts onto your designs to create studs;
How to solder cufflink backs to your silver clay pieces;
How to solder a jump ring onto a pendant, eliminating the need to drill a hole.
Plus many more tips, including how to make your own pickle (for cleaning metal).
Comprehensive learning experience
We’ll cover two types of soldering, explore the equipment and materials required (which isn’t much more than what you already use for silver clay), and troubleshoot common challenges. You’ll have plenty of supervised practice, and by the end of the day, you’ll feel confident in your ability to solder and take your jewellery-making to the next level - even from home!
What’s included
The cost of the course includes materials worth over £30, such as 10g of silver clay, sterling silver cufflink backs, a pair of stud earrings, and butterflies - everything you need to complete the class. 
This workshop is ideal for anyone who has completed a beginner’s silver clay course or has experience working with metal clay and is ready to advance their skills in the art of jewellery-making.

Earth conscious credentials
We are mindful of the effect we have on the environment, and do our best to minimise our impact.
Silver clay is a material manufactured from 100% recycled silver, a plant-based organic binder and water. The silver is recycled from X rays, the photographic industry, electronics etc. You don’t need a lot of tools and equipment to get started and all pieces made on this workshop can be fired with a crème brûlée torch.
You also take all the lovely products you have created home with you on the day, and workshop correspondence and notes are sent to you electronically.

Minimum number no refund policy
To ensure we can always pay our creatives a fair fee, we require a minimum number of bookings for each workshop and for this reason bookings are non-refundable. Should we have to cancel due to low numbers, we will offer you the option to swap to an alternative date or workshop, or to request a refund.
We do our very best to avoid cancellations. Since we often get late bookings, we keep our workshops on sale for as long as possible. We realise that some of you travel from afar, so if you book a space and have not yet received an email confirming your workshop is going ahead and need to make plans for your trip, please get in touch before booking any travel or accommodation so we can update you on booking numbers. In this 3-hour private class, Lou Davis will take you through how to make a gelatin (vege-gel) printing plate which can be used to print beautiful and colourful works of art.&nbsp;We&rsquo;ll cover a number of techniques including using stencils and masks, adding texture with botanicals and found objects and using household items for mark making and using home-made foam stamps. Textures could be chosen to match the reason for the celebration.

Make a functional and fabulous hand-bound book | private class for up to 10 people

Our Art &amp; Wine Evenings offer&nbsp;a fun,&nbsp;relaxed and creative night out in Edinburgh&#39;s fabulous&nbsp;city centre, and are perfect for those who want to reengage with their creative side, or just enjoy a bit of escapism.
With hands-on help from local painter <a href="https://www.thearienascollective.com/artists" rel="noopener" target="_blank" fr-original-style="" style="user-select: auto; font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box; cursor: pointer; text-decoration: inherit;">Suzanne Kemplay</a>, you will learn how to create your very own still life, portrait or landscape painting using acrylic paints, while enjoying a glass of wine served with cheese and crackers plus our usual selection of locally-blended Shibui teas, and coffee options.
You don&#39;t have to be able to draw, so it&#39;s perfect for beginners&nbsp;as well as those who are new to using acrylic paints. And we&nbsp;think you&#39;ll be amazed at what you can achieve in one evening!
Suzanne offers a range of themes throughout the year, and you will be given a choice of 2 options to paint on the night. She&#39;ll also provide a brief background to the artist&#39;s work, and support throughout the evening to help you make the most of your time.
No previous experience is needed. Images can be traced so the focus is on the painting and you can get straight to work, and have fun playing with paint. Suzanne will talk you through the process showing you how to mix colours, and how to apply acrylic paint to get the best results.

Our Sip & Paint classes offer a fun, relaxed and creative time out in Edinburgh's fabulous city centre, and are perfect for those who want to reengage with their creative side, or just enjoy a bit of escapism.
With hands-on help from local painter Suzanne Kemplay, you will learn how to create your very own still life, portrait or landscape painting using acrylic paints, while enjoying a glass of wine and locally-sourced cheese board.
You don't have to be able to draw, so it's perfect for beginners as well as those who are new to using acrylic paints. And we think you'll be amazed at what you can achieve in one evening!
Suzanne offers a range of themes, along with a brief background to the artist's work plus support throughout the class to help you make the most of your time.
No previous experience is needed. Images can be traced so the focus is on the painting and you can get straight to work, and have fun playing with paint. Suzanne will talk you through the process showing you how to mix colours, and how to apply acrylic paint to get the best results.

This private class will get you and your friends into the party or festive spirit!&nbsp;On the festive-themed option, calligraphy artist, Panna Chauhan, will show you how to hand-decorate a set of 3 Christmas baubles which you will take home to hang with pride on your tree, or as the perfect, personalised gifts for family and friends.&nbsp;
In the first hour, you will learn the basics of the traditional calligraphy letter-making. Then you will practice on acetate to get an idea of what it will look and feel like on a bauble, so you&#39;ll have plenty of time to experiment and play with ideas.&nbsp;

Discover the magic of mosaic making&nbsp;with Jacky Cox of Mossy MosaicMosaicing fits in perfectly with our vision of a world where recycling, repurposing and upcycling is the norm. Jacky works with a variety of materials including glass, recycled crockery and natural materials like slate and sea glass, and finds the whole creative process from sourcing to creating absorbing, relaxing and mesmerising.&nbsp;On this 3 hour session, Jacky will help you create two mosaic items using methods you can do at home. Get into the holiday spirit at our Christmas wreath workshop with local artist and sculptor Lucy Wayman! 

Join us for a fun and festive DIY Christmas crafts experience where you'll create a beautiful wreath for your home, all while enjoying a complimentary drink of mulled wine or Shibui mulled tea.
In this 4 hour beginner-friendly workshop, you'll start with the basics of macramé, using soft cotton or jute cord to tie knots and craft unique macramé tree ornaments in various colors and patterns. 
After making your tree decorations, you'll use the macramé techniques learned to create a stunning, personalised wreath on a metal hoop. Feel free to bring any trinkets, beads, or ribbons from home to incorporate into your design.
No prior experience is needed; our expert instructor will guide you through each step in this hands-on workshop, and answer your questions. 
By the end of the session, you'll take home a gorgeous wreath and festive decorations to enjoy for years to come, all while connecting with fellow crafters in this creative holiday activities event!

Minimum number no refund policy
To ensure we can always pay our creatives a fair fee, we require a minimum number of bookings for each workshop and for this reason bookings are non-refundable. Should we have to cancel due to low numbers, we will offer you the option to swap to an alternative date or workshop, or to request a refund.
We do our very best to avoid cancellations. Since we often get late bookings, we keep our workshops on sale for as long as possible. We realise that some of you travel from afar, so if you book a space and have not yet received an email confirming your workshop is going ahead and need to make plans for your trip, please get in touch before booking any travel or accommodation so we can update you on booking numbers. Macrame festive wreath workshop 

General Admission

On this private silver clay jewellery taster class, you can create a pendant, charms and/or a pair of earrings from hallmark-quality silver with metal clay specialist, Anna Campbell of Jewellery School Scotland. &nbsp; You will learn how to make jewellery out of a material called silver clay, which is made up of recycled silver particles, an organic binder and water. Silver clay requires with very little equipment so it&#39;s perfect for those wanting to learn a new skill they can easily do at home. &nbsp; You will be taken through all the steps to create your own piece ready for firing. The dried clay is fired with a butane torch to form it into silver (but a cr&egrave;me brul&eacute; torch will do the trick!). On this private silver clay jewellery taster class, you can create a pendant, charms and/or a pair of earrings from hallmark-quality silver with metal clay specialist, Anna Campbell of Jewellery School Scotland.
 
You will learn how to make jewellery out of a material called silver clay, which is made up of recycled silver particles, an organic binder and water. Silver clay requires with very little equipment so it's perfect for those wanting to learn a new skill they can easily do at home.
 
You will be taken through all the steps to create your own piece ready for firing. The dried clay is fired with a butane torch to form it into silver (but a crème brulé torch will do the trick!). You’ll then polish your silver jewellery ready to take home.

Food Safety Course: Understanding and Preventing Foodborne Viruses

This official BRCGS course enables participants to develop a full understanding of the general principles of the requirements of the Standard. It is designed to equip delegates with the knowledge of how to successfully implement the requirements of the Standard on site. Participants will discuss activities which develop a culture to maintain compliance and learn what to expect during the process of certification, including actions needed prior to, during and after the audit.Active learning will be used throughout the course utilising case study-based activities to encourage critical thinking and help explain how sites will implement the Standard.&nbsp;In preparation for the course, participants must read and review a copy of the Standard including the glossary, which is available as a free download from the <a href="https://www.brcgs.com/store/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" style="color: inherit; user-select: auto; font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box; cursor: pointer; text-decoration: inherit;" fr-original-style=" color: inherit;">BRCGS Store</a>, in addition to the pre-course materials provided.
