Outspoken Cycles Park Tool School courses are aimed at home mechanics who wish to have an in-depth knowledge of their bikes as well as those individuals required to maintain bikes for friends, schools, clubs, businesses and other organisations. The 2 Day Intermediate course teaches you mechanical skills following the Park Tool Big Blue Book of Bicycle Repair syllabus to familiarise you with many bicycle systems and workshop practices. Completion of assessment leads to the award of a certificate. You are encouraged to work on your own bike. Please be aware for some elements of the course certain bikes may not be suitable, however, there are also a number of classroom bikes to work on where necessary. We can provide a classroom bike if you’re unable to bring your own.  Course Detail Over two days you will cover: Chains (Assessing wear, chain care regimes, removal, sizing and installation) Pedals, Cranks and Drivetrain (Assessing wear, removal and installation of all components) Cassettes and Freewheels (Removal and installation, assessing wear) Gear Setup (Cabling and setup) Rim & Mechanical Disc Brakes (Assessing wear, strip down and re-installation) Bicycle Setup (Choosing the right bike, saddle height) Frame Assessment (new and damage frame assessment, tools used for frame prep) Price The course costs £275 inc VAT. Participants should have a good knowledge of the key content outlined in the Basic: Ride With Confidence course before booking the Intermediate as this level of knowledge is assumed by the instructor on the day. Course Timings, Assessment, Location & Travel Courses run 9am-4pm over two days, or 9:30am – 4:30pm for weekend courses. Courses take place in our dedicated training workshop at our offices in Cambridge. We have an abundance of bike racks, and we are close to Cambridge North Station. There is limited parking on site on a first-come-first-served basis and we are close to parking at Cambridge North Station. There is some limited on-road parking (at owners risk). FAST TRACK FAT DISSOLVE TRAINING COURSE ONLY A DAY

A 2 day course for Powerboat Instructors (aged 17+) looking to advance their instructions level to include the Advanced and Intermediate Powerboat courses. The course builds on the command, teaching and communication skills all introduced at Powerboat Instructor level which will have been solidified by experience running courses. The course covers how to coach and train all aspects of the Advanced Powerboat course including safe command of a vessel at day and night, meteorology, Collision Regulations, Emergency situations and search patterns, and use of engines. The course is a mix of theory and practical.   Course Pre-Requisites To do this course you will need the following certificates: First Aid certificate, Powerboat Instructor (with logged teaching hours), Advanced Powerboat course completion certificate, one of the following Certifiates of Competnce with a valid commercial endorsement; Advanced Powerboat Certificate of Completence, RYA Yachtmaster™ Coastal (Power) Certificate of Competence, or RYA Yachtmaster™ Offshore (Power) Certifcate of Competence (Instructors who do not hold a valid commercial endorsement will only be able to teach Intermediate Powerboat). RYA Instructor Training At Torbay Sea School we have trained many RYA Instructors who have gone on to instruct with us, other RYA training centres or as freelance instructors. During the course of your general RYA training you will have gained all the skills necessary to sail, motor or power boat with confidence to a high standard. The following courses consolidate all those skills and give you the tools required to instruct others to gain their RYA qualifications. You will be able to utilise our Instructors experience and our boats/equipment to feel at ease with instructing others.

Unravel the mysteries of astro navigation, using a sextant, ocean passage making, worldwide meteorology and electronic navigation aids. This course is for those aspiring to blue water cruising and is ideal for holders of the Yachtmaster Offshore certificate who are preparing for their first ocean passage. Topics covered include: The earth and the celestial sphere Practical guide to use and care of sextant at sea Meridian altitudes Sun, star and other sights Ocean passage planning Prior to the course your navigation skills should be at the standard of the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore shorebased course. If you are working towards your Yachtmaster Ocean Certificate of Competence, completion of this shorebased course exempts you from the written exam. The course is taught over 40 hours with one exam paper. It can be covered as a series of short sessions, as an intensive week-long course, or by distance learning. As well as our courses we also offer one-to-one (or two-to-one) bike maintenance training at our dedicated training workshop in north Cambridge. Looking to get some tips on maintaining your own bike when you’re in the middle of nowhere on your next tour, or just always wanted to know how to change a chain and cassette? Get in touch and we can book you in for some bespoke one-to-one training. For one or two people training is a flat rate of £70 per hour or £250 for a 4 hour block.
