ELKA is a weaving and natural dye studio based in Hampshire and Wiltshire. Ellie spent a large part of her childhood living abroad and travelling. The vibrant markets of the Middle and Far East triggered her passion for colour, texture and pattern and this influence is expressed through her textiles. She completed both her BA in Textile Design, specialising in woven textiles, and MA in Design for Textile Futures at Central St Martins College of Art and Design, graduating in 2006.  After graduating, she moved back to Winchester to set up her weaving business which she has been running full time since 2015. In 2018 Claudia started working with the business to produce naturally dyed yarns for Ellie to weave with, and to sell on their website.  They have a growing range of online self-paced courses which have been designed to get you confidently weaving and natural dyeing from the comfort of your home.

We can also arrange one-to-one sessions if there's something specific you're interested in.  Sessions can be run at our studio in Altrincham, or at a venue to suit you. We bring everything so you just need to relax and enjoy a fun, making session! Charlotte Llewellyn is a textile artist based in South East London and the founder of Stemwell Workshop. She specialises in natural dyeing and quilting. Charlotte aims to connect traditional process with contemporary craft, whilst focusing on sustainability and interaction with nature. All cloth has been reclaimed. All colour and print is derived from plants either locally grown, or ethically sourced. Taking inspiration from architecture, landscape and historical textiles, and by honouring the tradition of patchwork as storytelling, Charlotte endeavours to breathe new life into old cloth, hoping to continue the narrative. Her work ranges from small functional items for the home, to large scale wall pieces. She also teaches workshops in natural dyeing and printing techniques, patchwork and hand quilt

Wiltshire Green Woollies is a specialist heritage yarn craft centre. We are passionate about teaching and passing on the skills of fleece preparation, hand-spinning & dyeing, knitting, crochet and weaving. Isobel is a gardener and plant dyer using grown and foraged plants to create hand-dyed textiles. Time spent foraging, walking and wandering outdoors combined with a professional horticultural training at Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Isobel has acquired an intimate knowledge and understanding of plants. This directly translates into her practise as a natural dyer where Isobel celebrates plants imprinting their stories onto textiles.

I established my business creating distinctive and intricate rugs and textile art in 2014, and I specialise in hand-weaving using long established techniques, such as Krokbragd. (The one that no-one likes to say out loud). After being taught rug weaving by the late Susan Foster at art college in the 1990’s, I pursued a career in costume for a number of years whilst continuing to weave on small scale collections. During this time I developed the original style for which I have become known since setting up my business. I combine my weaving with an instinctive and daring approach to colour and it’s the creative process of importing a contemporary element to the time honoured techniques of weaving and the responses from the viewer which most excite me. A year spent living in India and more recently, the dynamic graffiti and houses in my Bristol neighbourhood, have influenced the fabulously joyful palette which is intrinsic to my weaving. Working in reclaimed high quality rug wool and a variety of other yarns I meticulously hand-weave and finish all the original pieces myself on my Glimakra Floor loom at BV Studios in Bristol. Some of my designs are then produced in small batches through various partnerships.

I am never happier than when sharing my love of spinning and all things woolly. My forte is long draw spinning, although I teach all methods. I was professionally taught in 1980s and have never stopped learning and sharing my skills ever since. My new book 'Hand spinning - essential technical and creative skills', is the only one in the world that explains long draw spinning at length and in easily accessible detail. It’s fun, fast, satisfying, and the way spinning used to be done before industrial production took over. Hand spinning is not about mimicking commercial yarn; it is about creating your own unique, signature, yarn. Yarn that is fit for the purpose and bears the name of the person who made it. Yarn made in your choice of fibre, using your chosen spinning method, in colours and textures that will put joy into your life. And that is only the beginning... further joys of knitting, weaving or decoration await. However, there is no reason why spinners can't just hang up their yarn for the pure pleasure of seeing it. Unlike a framed painting though, you do more than look at yarn to admire it. You need to touch it, grasp it, dig your fingers in, smell it, feel the sensuous warmth against your face.... As I say, hand spinning transcends the commonplace - my aim is to help and inspire people to discover this for themselves. Littleheath Barn Studio is the perfect place to spend a creative day or two. We offer a wide range of fabric printing, dyeing and art textile workshops as well as ongoing courses and guest tutors. The studio is fully equipped for textile exploration and we provide a relaxed and supportive environment, best all of all you'll be accompanied by like minded folk. Many of our regulars refer to the studio as their "happy place". Littleheath Barn was formerly resident studio to award winning textile artist Ineke Berlyn. Ineke and her husband John converted the barn in 2008 and we are proud of the fact that it was Bromsgrove's first carbon neutral building. The studio remains a family business and ran by Ineke's daughter Liske Johnson (BA Hons Textile Design), with the support of our close family friend Claire Lundy (BA Hons Printed Textiles).
