This course contains both self-study and live training in online classes and covers the META-Health Level 1 and 2 material. It will take 6 months including 24 live sessions, 2 hours each, mainly in a weekly rhythm. You will get preparatory videos, reading material and tasks that help to understand and integrate the content, while the group sessions focus on demonstrations, discusion of the material, and practical exercises for you. All the time, our trainers and tutors will support you and we’ll be a learning family with an active chatgroup. Altogether you should reckon approximately 5 hours per week.

Prepared for the Emotional Impact of Your Role
Research from the University of Central Lancashire in 2020 revealed that approximately 60% of emergency services personnel felt unprepared for the psychological impact of their job duties, especially when handling traumatic incidents. Additionally, a 2021 study by the Law Society found that many solicitors experience high levels of stress and burnout, with 70% of respondents reporting that the pressures of their profession significantly affect their mental health.

Based on the evidence-based method of Emotional Logic, this course will introduce you to a healthy adjustment process that avoids unhelpful coping strategies. Instead, it offers practical methods that align with your emotions and personality. You will learn to use an activity pack filled with tools and resources that will help you understand your emotional triggers and patterns, as well as discover the healthy reasons behind them. You will also learn how to prepare yourself for traumatic incidents to lessen their psychological impact. These tools are also effective for processing secondary trauma.

Are you finding it difficult to ensure and demonstrate progression in history with these pupils?According to Department for Education statistics, in 2020 there were 1.4 million pupils across the UK with identified special educational needs and this number is growing every year. Many of these pupils are in mainstream schools, where reporting shows pupils can have widely differing experiences and are more likely to have poorer outcomes relative to their peers. Ofsted has reported many strengths and weaknesses in SEND support. Among areas of weakness are a lack of curriculum well matched to pupil needs and effective collaboration between teachers, teaching assistants and parents.As evidence from the Education Endowment Fund supports, high quality teaching for pupils with SEND is often based upon strategies that most teachers will already have in their repertoires: scaffolding, explicit verbal interaction and instruction, cognition and metacognition, use of technology and collaboration.This full day session, aimed at history subject leaders in mainstream schools, will give you strategies and approaches to adapt, adopt and try in history. About this course

This practical course will help primary teachers to understand the purpose of assessment in history and consider current best practice. We will explore ways of continuing to improve the quality of teaching and learning in history through effective assessment strategies. We will go through practical ideas and resources to enliven teaching and learning in history and provide opportunities for assessment. This course will provide guidance and support to help develop the accuracy of teacher judgements. During the course, we will look at examples of writing and outcomes from different schools and consider how these outcomes demonstrate progress and attainment in history.

Course leader
The course is led by Steven Kenyon. Steven is a member of the Historical Association’s primary committee, having worked as a primary school teacher and then Deputy Head Teacher between 2004 and 2018. He joined Lancashire Professional Development Service in April 2018 as a Teaching and Learning Consultant for Primary History and English. He works closely with Lancashire Archives to promote and develop local history work in primary schools. This year he is a judge for the Historical Association's Young Quills Awards.
