The finished piece can be framed to hang on a wall or incorporated into another project.&nbsp;
Your tutor will be Hannah, the owner of Stitching Kitchen. &nbsp; She set up the business in 2017 to share her passion and skills in all things involving textiles, fabric and threads.&nbsp; Her courses are relaxed and fun, they are held in her Stitching Kitchen Studio in Brackley, Northants where she provides a range of teas, coffee and homemade cakes.

His diverse roles have encompassed technology development, conceptual and feasibility studies, supporting owner&rsquo;s teams during front-end engineering and design (FEED) and project development, due diligence, safety engineering, and training. He began his LNG career at British Gas/BG Group (now Shell), contributing to international projects. He then helped develop LNG consultancies, first with Advantica and then GL Noble Denton. More recently, he worked for the Society for Gas as a Marine Fuel shipping NGO. For the past nine years, he has run an independent consultancy focusing on best practices for LNG (as well as hydrogen and ammonia) marine applications. Your expert instructor has also supported floating LNG liquefaction and regasification initiatives. &nbsp;With offshore LNG project experience spanning the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia, he has been heavily involved in FLNG, including technology management, due diligence, and owner&rsquo;s engineering for a preFEED and several projects. He has also instructed FLNG courses globally. Your expert instructor is an experienced process engineer with over 35 years in the gas and energy sectors, focusing on liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the past 27 years. His diverse roles have encompassed technology development, conceptual and feasibility studies, supporting owner’s teams during front-end engineering and design (FEED) and project development, due diligence, safety engineering, and training. He began his LNG career at British Gas/BG Group (now Shell), contributing to international projects. He then helped develop LNG consultancies, first with Advantica and then GL Noble Denton. More recently, he worked for the Society for Gas as a Marine Fuel shipping NGO. For the past nine years, he has run an independent consultancy focusing on best practices for LNG (as well as hydrogen and ammonia) marine applications. Your expert instructor has also supported floating LNG liquefaction and regasification initiatives. With offshore LNG project experience spanning the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia, he has been heavily involved in FLNG, including technology management, due diligence, and owner’s engineering for a preFEED and several projects. He has also instructed FLNG courses globally. Beyond FLNG, he has worked on small-scale LNG, onshore LNG plants, gas pipelines, and other gas and energy projects earlier in his career.

Our beautiful studio is just five minutes walk from Ford Castle, and as Northumberland is an ancient landscape peppered with castles and towers of all shapes and sizes, inspiration for your own ceramic fortifications isn't hard to find!

Ford Castle - just five minutes from the studio!

This hand-building pottery session has been designed for the young and un-young, but will require focus and concentration! You will create a castle tower using the slab-building method before adding windows, arrow slits, roofs, draw-bridges, portcullises, chimneys etc (basically whatever you fancy) in just two hours! Although simple in principle, it will involve all your creativity - but first you'll have to decide whether your castle is the setting for a medieval siege or a fairy tale! The basic method will be outlined at the start, and then it's up to you to create your castle! Once finished, your castle will stay at the studio to be fired, dip-glazed and then re-fired. If you have added windows or other openings they would make beautiful tea light holders. [But we recommend battery powered tea lights or fairly lights at the towers will get very hot with a candle in...]

These two towers have more of the fairy -tale about them...

There are only six places per session - this allows enough access to support for everyone to be successful! As this is a creative class designed to be accessible to all including younger potters, we must insist that a parent or guardian attends with any participant aged 16 or under. The numbers are limited to avoid over-crowding in the workshop. Each ticket books a maker's-seat at the pottery table. If you are going to attend as a (free) spectator, please make a note of this at the time of booking.

These two examples feel more military - one being menaced by a giant squid, the other with it's draw-bridge lowered...

If you book a place for a young person and feel they will need help in creating their castle, please come along and help them (as a non-paying spectator). Even with only six people booked in a session, it can be difficult to support everyone in the way they need. Again, please note this at the time of booking.

The ticket price covers all tuition, tools, firings and glaze for one castle tower. Please note that these pots will be glazed in just one colour - dip-glazed as you request. 

A word of warning - the kiln Gods can be fickle, and despite doing everything possible, some pieces will fail, crack or blow up (!) in the kiln. There are no guarantees in pottery, not even for seasoned potters. A second word of warning - working with pottery can be hugely addictive. You have been warned!

The New Ford Studio is housed on the ground floor of the old Reading Rooms - you will find it just up the road from Lady Waterford Hall. Nearby are many attractions and places to walk, shop and eat; how about a near by Narrow-guage Railway (that runs to Etal Castle and back), a working flour mill, a Village Shop & Tearoom, a heavy horse centre, a micro-brewery, or a Riverside cafe? 

Please note - access to the studio is only via a set of external stone steps, and there is a single toilet available on site. The booking cost (£30.00) secures a spot at the maker's table; if you need to stay to support a younger participant, please make sure you have noted this when you book your ticket!

If you need your work posting out to you or someone else, please ensure you book an additional postage and packing ticket!

Course Developer and Leader: NICKY SIMPSON


Your course leader is NICKY SIMPSON, who has 12 years teaching experience, heading up Fashion & Textiles at a school in Kent. She has taught Design and Technology/Textiles at GCSE & A Level and Art & Design Textiles at GCSE and A Level and BTEC Level 3 Fashion. Her last set of grades were: A Level 100% A-A*; GCSE 70% A-A* (100% A*-B). 
She had a previous 22-year career as a print designer and colourist, creating print ranges for the international market. For the past 9 years Nicky has been a workshop developer and leader for the online and F2F courses for Textile and Art teachers on behalf of the Textile Skills Centre, including pattern development. Nicky has mentored many graduate trainees, and now mentors many fellow teachers through the TSC mentorship programme.

Course Breakdown
5 day course plus exam and project.

Online course.
This course will be delivered over 5 full days (which will either be delivered over 2 weeks or 5 weekends). This is a theoretical course and as such is a classroom based and / or online programme. 
During sessions, you will be required to work on an assignment as well as covering a range of topics that include the statutory and non-statutory requirements for the design of electrical installations, underpinning principles of system design and the design, construction and verification process including certification requirements. 
Exams and assessments
You will be expected to produce a design project which is set by City and Guilds and this should take around 40 hours of work split between the classroom and personal time. You will also undertake a 2 hour 30 minutes open book written examination. 
To ensure that you are ready and able to complete these assessments successfully you will be working through the course books and be provided with the necessary work pack, notes and example questions and be given ample time and guidance to work on your individual design projects. This tried and tested approach has proven successful with previous candidates as is proven by our exceptionally high pass rate.
The exam is scheduled by the City & Guilds and there are only 3 dates per year to sit the exam.

Participants will undertake a concise yet equally engaging training program covering all essential aspects of enforcing health and safety codes of practice at construction sites. Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) Refresher

Our CITB Online - Site Supervisors’ Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) Refresher course is designed to give attendees a broad reminder of their responsibilities for health and safety on construction sites. Approved and endorsed by the United Kingdom Contractors Group, the SSSTS refresher course is a must for anyone who occupies a supervisory role on UKCG sites and wants to brush up on their knowledge of their legal responsibilities and the latest construction industry regulations.
The SSSTS Refresher course has been created to provide existing supervisors, or those who are just entering into a supervisory role, with in-depth knowledge of health and safety legislation and procedures. If a candidate completed a full SSSTS training course up to 5 years ago, they will be required to attend a refresher programme.
Prerequisites
SSSTS certificates are of course valid for up to 5 years, but due to the ever-changing nature of the industry, it is recommended that staff stay up to date by enrolling on a refresher course long before the qualification expires.

Site Supervisor Training Scheme (SSSTS) Refresher

What does this course cover?
This is an online course for developing history leadership in primary teaching. This term, we will be piloting the course as an immersive programme covering the key elements of primary history subject leadership, enabling all involved in history leadership at primary to carry out their role effectively.
How is this course structured and delivered?
The course will take place in ten online sessions from January–May 2025. Sessions 1, 8 and 10 are compulsory to attend live. Participants will be required to complete a gap task after each session and contribute to an online reflection diary.
The other sessions will be recorded for participants to work through at their convenience, though participants are encouraged to attend the recording sessions live in order to make the most of the programme. All recordings will be made available on the course Moodle page within two working days of the live recording session.
Who is this course for? 
This programme is designed for anyone who is a subject coordinator or subject leader for history in their primary school. You may have just been appointed as a subject leader, or be more experienced but looking for formal training or fresh inspiration and direction.
