Women's Health Specialist,I wanted to share my personal story with you…these are my 2 little girls (Maisie 4 1/2 years and Iona 21 months old) and I do what I do because of them (literally).I have had 2 amazing pregnancies and births. Maisie was born in the birth pool at the hospital and weighed 7lb 4oz. No drugs and no tears so a normal, straightforward birth. 12 weeks after having her I jumped straight back into an intense fitness regime (way way way too soon!!). Certain exercises made me lea…k slightly but that’s normal right??? I’ve just had a baby. 2 years later and I’m pregnant with Iona. Very similar pregnancy all went well (just tired from running around after a toddler and fitting in clients and classes in between!!). We had a home birth with Iona and she weighted 7lb 11oz – again no drugs and no tears. Second time round it took me longer to get back to intense exercise (for me juggling the needs of 2 children was so much harder than 1). The first class I went back to after Iona (must have been about 9 months post-partum). It included exercises like box jumps, double unders and I basically wet myself!! My body just wasn’t ready for this kind of intense exercise.

Awards ‘Dance Fitness Instructor of the Year 2019 – South Yorkshire’ – August 2019 – Northern Enterprise Awards ‘Best Dance Fitness Instructor 2018 – South Yorkshire’ – August 2018 – Yorkshire and the Humber Enterprise Awards. Why do you teach? I have been teaching dance since I was 17. There is nothing more rewarding than helping my students realise their potential. I’ve always been so passionate about dancing and its benefits so in 2014 I decided to branch out into teaching dance-inspired fitness classes for adults. Since then I have discovered a real passion for encouraging people to get into exercise through the use of fun, dance based workout routines. I love helping my class members achieve their goals. The Dance Fit with Helen mission! Through dance, exercising can be fun and it should be fun otherwise you won’t want to do it! My mission is to break down this barrier of women feeling too self-conscious to go to an exercise class because of low body confidence and self-esteem. We work, we parent, we listen, we teach, we work more (whether within or outside our homes), we help, we struggle, we survive. We often find ourselves stretched too thin, overworked, overstressed, overwhelmed and often unfulfilled. We have been living in a world that belittles our natural talents, gifts and abilities, and has undermined our power at every turn. We are facing extreme and challenging times, and I do not think getting back to “normal” is a viable or a realistic pursuit. Instead, we must ask ourselves which parts of yesterday do we want to keep and bring with us? And how can we actively participate in creating what we want our today and our tomorrows to be? Fear directed my life for so long. Fear of not being good enough, smart enough, thin enough, fear of all the “enoughs”. I had a very loud inner critic which caused me years of vacillating between high levels of anxiety and numbing out. And after years of personal development work with the exact practices I now share with my coaching clients, I can say that fear and anxiety are in the back seat (or better yet, the trunk) and living in a beautiful state of joy, gratitude, compassion, wonder, and peace are in the driver’s seat of my life for almost two decades.
