We are a local charity providing specialist care and support to people who are affected by a life-limiting illness. Although many of our patients have cancer, we also care for people who have other life-limiting illnesses too, such as Motor Neurone Disease, Heart Failure and COPD, among others. Our patients and their families are at the heart of everything we do.

dove cottage day hospice

We offer high quality palliative day care to people in NE Leicestershire, Rutland and SE Nottinghamshire who are living with a life-limiting illness, such as cancer, motor neurone disease and COPD. As a charity, we offer our care services free of charge. The hospice provides nursing care and advice, wellbeing activities such as complementary therapies, chaplaincy team support, games, crafts, refreshments and a home-cooked lunch. Our guests come to the hospice to be cared for in a home from home atmosphere, usually for one day a week. The Dove Cottage tea room has a unique location and is the perfect spot for a walk along the along the canal followed by a cup of tea and a slice of cake

passion - some might say an obsession - for fitness and health lead me to a career in exercise training. My first training course was in exercise to music with the YMCA some 20 years ago, following on from this I gained qualifications in Gym training, ante-post natal, children’s fitness, nutrition and exercise for older adults. After a decade of teaching mainstream classes I decided it was time to move in to the specialised side of exercise teaching. In 1999 I graduated from Edinburgh University with a Masters Degree in Exercise and Health. More recently I have qualified in Exercise For The Management Of Low Back Pain,Cardiac Rehab, Falls Prevention and Cancer Rehabilitation. I also have training in neurological conditions, COPD and osteoporosis.

I started riding when I was 10 years old and I instantly fell in love with the sport. After only 3 months my non horsey parents bought me my first pony. Being novices and this is a mistake a lot of people do. We bought a pony (Hector) that turned out to be a nightmare. I spent more time being thrown on the floor than I did riding him during the first 12 months of our partnership. This was a steep learning curve but I never gave up and I continued to master his ways. During our 16 years together we attended a few local shows, hunting and pony club camp. Sadly though he developed a bad case of copd and went into early retirement after 4 years of me having him then he became a companion and loyal friend.
