About this Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT)  This 5 half-day course provides a detailed description of all performance testing methods for all thermal power plant equipment including boilers, turbines, condensers, pumps, fans, deaerators, and feedwater heaters. The methodology, and code requirements for the performance tests for all thermal power plant equipment will be explained in detail. The preparatory work and instrumentation required for each test will also be covered during the course. The efficiency calculations for all equipment used in circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler and pulverized coal boiler power plants will be explained, including all processes, operational and maintenance activities, capital projects, technical options, potential initiatives and incentives to implement upgrades / repairs for increasing the power plant equipment efficiency. The course will also provide a thorough explanation of CFB and pulverized coal boiler technology including hydrodynamics, combustion, emissions, design considerations, gas-solid separators, design of CFB and pulverized coal boiler components, management of solid residues, materials, stoichiometric calculations, and model for sulfur capture. The operation, maintenance, testing, and refurbishment options of all the equipment and systems used in CFB and pulverized coal power plants will be presented, including boilers, superheaters, reheaters, turbines, condensers, feedwater heaters, deaerators, pumps, compressors, fans, electric generators, instrumentation and control systems, and governing systems, etc. The participants will get equipped on all factors which affect the CFB and pulverized coal boiler power plant efficiency and emissions, all methods used to calculate the heat rate of CFB and pulverized coal power plants as well as all areas in CFB and pulverized coal boiler power plants where efficiency loss can occur. Updated information on the methods used to improve CFB boiler and pulverized coal boiler power plant heat rate will also be provided. Additionally, some self-study will be requested. Participants are invited but not obliged to bring a short presentation (10 mins max) on a practical problem they encountered in their work. This will then be explained and discussed during the VILT. A short test or quiz will be held at the end the course. Course Overview Lean Six Sigma is a proven combination of tools and techniques that has been used by leading organizations to improve efficiency, productivity and customer satisfaction. It achieves this by providing a rigorous and structured methodology and team approach to problem solving which leads to quality and performance improvements. Our Lean Six Sigma Green Belt training is a seven-day programme which includes an in-house project designed to provide participants with an understanding of the Six Sigma Green Belt Process and it’s practical application.  Trainees will enhance their current skills by developing a thorough understanding of the DMAIC (Define/Measure/Analyse/Improve/Control) methodology and its applications, creating a culture of problem solving and continuous improvement in their organization. In this way, key personnel become valuable contributors in achieving the larger goals and objectives of their organization. This powerful tool will enable you and your team to identify opportunities for improvement, and assist in the implementation of projects leading to efficiency by equipping key personnel with the expertise and the tools needed to manage and participate in cost reduction projects with innovative solutions.  Trainees will learn how to use data to pinpoint processes that need to be analysed and improved using the Six Sigma Tool sets, with a view to problem solving, increasing operational efficiency, improving productivity and customer satisfaction and the company’s overall business results. Our Lean Six Sigma Green Belt programme incorporates a project to be undertaken in your own organization during and after the training modules. This allows you to apply the tools, in your own working environment, to processes that are known to you, making the training relevant, and also leaving a improvement with measurable results in your organization. MINITAB (trial version can be downloaded free) and Excel software are used by participants during the training sessions and to complete their projects. Structure of the Course This 7-day training programme is divided into three modules as follows:  Define / Measure Phase - 3 days from Nov 25th to 27th, 2024 Analyse Phase - 2 days on January 13th &14th, 2025 Improve / Control Phase - 2 days on February 17th & 18th, 2025 A gap of 4 weeks between each module provides an opportunity for trainees to work on a project within their workplace, applying the methodology and tools learned during the previous module. Extra support can be provided between modules for each trainees with their project work. We provide a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Manual for all delegates, and a Certification is awarded upon completion of the Green Belt training and ONE project by each trainee in which the targeted outcomes have been achieved. This course is an exploration of our understanding of structural racism in the UK and provides a good foundation for anyone wanting to be a responsible ally. Are you working with young people, but struggling with conversations about race? Are you worried that you have been getting it wrong when it comes to race? Do you have questions about race that you are afraid to ask? This course is for you. Description  Racism is a real problem in the UK, but it is much more hidden and covert than it has been in the past. People know its not ok to say the ’N-word’, but sadly, racism has permeated British society much more deeply than this. On this course we will help redefine the idea of racism and explain the complex nature of its modern day manifestation. We will explore how to talk with young people about race and particularly how to challenge when racism occurs. To achieve this, we need to start with ourselves. We will cover the idea of Unconscious Bias making us react differently to people based on our socialisation. We will cover the concept of White Privilege making it difficult for white people to get into the shoes of someone of another race. We will cover the concept of micro-aggressions that are difficult to report to a superior because they may be misconstrued as a mere “interpretation” of the situation and not an incident of racism. We will introduce the idea of the “racism binary”, and how we need to become more accountable for our own actions, and instead of getting offended, take responsibility when someone says something we did or said was racist. This can lead to a much more useful conversation than trying to defend yourself by saying “I’m not racist”.  When we live in a world where racism doesn’t exist, only then can we say “I don’t see colour”, because it does exist, and it does have an impact on peoples lives.  When racist incidents happen, people get hurt. Unfortunately, it is an all too familiar feeling for a lot of people in the UK who have been forced to accept it as part of life. Most of these situations will never be resolved, because they will never be reported. Poor handling of racist incidents teach young people not to say anything, thinking it will only make the situation worse. A lot of people believe that racism is never going away, because their experiences have confirmed this belief. There is a lot of work to be done, and the time is now.  This course is an exploration of our own socialisation and personal expressions of race, which will leave you feeling positive and hopeful about the future.
