The LAA operates a strict compliance regime when it comes to auditing family controlled work matters, and mistakes can often result in a Contract Notice, corrective action, and further follow-up activity within 6 months. This course will discuss the various aspects of family controlled work billing, with discussions on topics such as how to bill private law, public law, and help with mediation matters; how to evidence whether substantive negotiations and a settlement have taken place in private law matters; how do the LAA audit travel and other disbursement claims; what evidence must be present on files to avoid any issues on audit – including scope, gateway evidence, and forms/evidence of means (rules on evidence of means will be included in brief, however, a separate, more in-depth Civil Means Assessment Guidance Course is available); and the rules on claiming separate matters and escape fees. Key aspects of the Civil Contract and associated LAA Guidance (including the Codes Guidance) will be included, along with a discussion of common errors that are made. Target Audience This online course is aimed at anyone involved in billing Family Controlled Work matters or managing an LAA Family Contract. Resources Course notes will be provided to all delegates which may be useful for ongoing reference or cascade training. Please note a recording of the course will not be made available. Speaker Steve Keeling, Consultant, DG Legal Steve joined DG Legal after leaving the Legal Aid Agency in August 2016. In his 17 years at the LAA, he worked in the audit team as both auditor and manager and was a Contract Manager for several years. Steve is also a certified SQM auditor and undertakes audits on behalf of Recognising Excellence as well as running training sessions for the SQM Audit Team periodically.

Course Description The RQF Level 1 Awareness of Safeguarding course is designed to provide individuals with a basic understanding of safeguarding principles and practices. Types of Abuse and Neglect: Overview of different types of abuse, including physical, emotional, sexual, and financial abuse. Recognizing signs and indicators of abuse and neglect. Understanding the impact of abuse on individuals' well-being. Vulnerable Groups: Identifying vulnerable groups, such as children, young people, older adults, and individuals with disabilities or mental health issues. Understanding the specific safeguarding concerns and considerations for each group. Reporting and Responding to Safeguarding Concerns: Procedures for reporting safeguarding concerns or disclosures. Understanding the importance of maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information appropriately. Responding to safeguarding concerns in a timely and appropriate manner. Promoting Safeguarding and Preventing Abuse: Strategies for promoting a safe and inclusive environment. Recognizing potential risk factors and implementing preventative measures. Understanding the importance of creating a culture of safeguarding within organizations. Multi-Agency Collaboration: Collaboration between different agencies and organisations involved in safeguarding, such as social services, law enforcement, and healthcare. Sharing information and working together to ensure effective safeguarding practices. Case Studies and Scenarios: Reviewing case studies and scenarios to apply safeguarding principles and practices. Analysing potential safeguarding dilemmas and decision-making processes. Personal Responsibilities: Recognising personal boundaries and limitations when working with vulnerable individuals. Understanding the importance of self-care and managing emotional well-being when dealing with safeguarding issues. It is important to ensure that the course meets local safeguarding guidelines and requirements.

Thanks to funding from Lancashire County Council, Active Cycles Bike Hire Library is offering adult bikes for hire completely free of charge. Bikes are available to hire for as little or as long as you'd like, subject to availability. There are a range of sizes and styles of bikes available, so if you have a particular bike in mind please let us know when making your booking. Bikes can be collected from Active Cycles, Accrington Arndale Centre, BB5 1PL. When making your booking, the information you provide will be used for data monitoring purposes only. Card details will be taken at the time of booking as security in the event of damage or non-return of the bike, but no charges will be made unless necessary. Your details will be deleted from the system once the bike has been returned and inspected by a mechanic. If you do not have a bank card, please contact the shop on 01254 919393 or visit us in person on Tuesdays or Thursdays, 10:30AM - 3:30PM. We do not take same-day bookings via our website, however we may have availability so please call us to check. Once your booking has been created, it will be approved within 48 hours. Please bring your booking confirmation email with you when collecting your bike. Bikes cannot be hired out to those under the age of 18, you may be asked for proof of age upon collection if you look under 18.
