It officially began for us in 1918 after our volunteers, who were recruited into the 130th Field Ambulance, returned from France where they’d helped treat soldiers on the battlefields of the First World War. It was the hard work and dedication of those volunteers, at home and overseas, that earned Wales it’s very own St John Priory, based in Cardiff. After the war, our volunteers continued to provide first aid treatment in Cardiff and the surrounding valleys, including taking care of the war wounded and rehabilitation of returning St John Ambulance Cymru volunteers. Since then we've been there for people through some of the country’s highs and lows, from providing support at the Aberfan disaster, to being pitch-side as Wales won Grand Slams. As the need for first aid developed, so did we. The organisation set up the first Ambulance Service for Wales and in 1974 we were the first organisation to take first aid treatments and emergency response into the heart of communities, by introducing mobile treatment units - something we still do today. The tradition of delivering first aid hasn’t wavered, and while our 4,000 volunteers are no longer needed on the battlefield, they support at a different type of field – the sporting field. As proud medical cover providers for the Principality Stadium, we help keep the public safe during events – including the world’s biggest sporting event; the Champions League Finals when they came to Cardiff in 2017. A nation of lifesavers St John Ambulance Cymru believe everyone should learn basic first aid skills. Since the beginning we've trained people in first aid at work and in communities. Accessibility to first aid training was improved after we made the Preliminary Course in First Aid and Nursing available in Welsh, and in 1923 the organisation set up the first Cadet Brigade in Wales, meaning for the first time, children and young people in Wales had the opportunity to learn lifesaving skills. St John Ambulance Cymru Badger and Cadet Youth Programmes are now a staple of our work, teaching those aged 5-17 how to save a life and providing the perfect springboard for our healthcare professionals of the future. Today, we're proud to train over 30,000 people in first aid skills every year. Training everyone from school children to multi-million pound businesses, and working towards a Wales where no one dies because they needed first aid and didn’t get it.

The Diocese of Bristol is the Church of England across Bristol, South Gloucester, North Wiltshire and Swindon. There are 30,000 people worshipping regularly in more than 200 churches, led by hundreds of clergy serving within seven deaneries. Around 15,000 children and young people attend our 72 church schools, while chaplains serve in institutions across our region. Our bishops lead and oversee the Church in the Diocese of Bristol. Rt Revd Vivienne Faull is the 56th Bishop of Bristol and was consecrated Bishop at a service at St Pauls Cathedral in July 2018. She was installed as the 56th Bishop of Bristol at Bristol Cathedral on 20 October 2018 and introduced as a Lord Spiritual at the House of Lords on 23 October. Rt Revd Dr Lee Rayfield, the Bishop of Swindon, supports the role of the Diocesan Bishop. He works across the diocese alongside his community leadership role in Swindon. We are shaping a new vision and set of priorities for the coming years in a 12-month process called Transforming Church. Together. We want to understand what we do well, what we can change for the better and how to create a positive way forward together. Between February and April 2021 we will be talking and listening to lots of different people, from both inside and outside the church. Bristol Dance Associate Programme is an exciting programme especially for young dancers aged between 10 and 25 years who are looking to enhance their dancing with additional, complementary training. We work with local dance schools to develop each student's potential. Students will train in Contemporary & Jazz Dance with professional experts and then will be given the opportunity to work with west-end performers in our monthly workshops. An Audition is required to join the Associate Programme. We look for student's potential, passion and a strong sense of performance and musicality.

UBUC was established during the 1960/61 academic year. Considering that scuba gear was invented in 1943 by Jacques Cousteau, much has changed in 50 years! The club ranges from new trainees to seasoned divers whose expertise is vital to the smooth running of UBUC. One of our main goals is to provide affordable scuba diving training. Every year we train around 30 divers and provide a number of internationally recognised qualifications from beginner to advanced diver levels. We are affiliated to the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC), and therefore issue qualifications according to BSAC standards. Over the last few years, we have gained a number of BSAC awards recognising our achievements in training. The club is overseen by 10 committee members. However, being such an active club means we rely on help from everyone to organise trips, help with equipment maintenance and assist with training. We especially encourage aspiring Dive Leaders to organise their own trips. We are also a friendly and sociable bunch! Our dedicated Social Secretaries runs most of our social events, including diving talks, boat pub crawls, trips, and much more! Anyone, however, can organise an event. BSAC Affiliation UBUC is a branch of the British Sub-Aqua Club. We are branch number 9160. Scuba Diving Training We offer extensive training for SCUBA diving, anywhere from beginner to advanced diver levels. We teach using the standards of our diving agency BSAC. In addition, we run Skills Development Courses (SDCs), Instructor Qualifications and also the occasional Freediving course.
