A one day programme of study designed for Doctors, Registered Nurses and Allied Health Professionals working in a variety of care settings, whose role may include supporting and advising patients in the later stages of dementia.

LOOKING FOR: ADULT FICTION, NON-FICTION Rachel Neely began her publishing career in 2016 at HarperCollins, before moving to Hachette where she worked as an editor for the next six years, specialising in crime and thrillers along with book club novels and contemporary fiction, most recently as a Commissioning Editor at Orion. Rachel joined Mushens Entertainment at the start of 2022 as an Associate Agent, assisting Juliet Mushens with her client list, including multiple Sunday Times and New York Times bestselling authors. Simultaneously she began signing her own clients. In August 2023 she was promoted to Literary Agent and is actively growing her list, looking for book-club fiction, dark academia, rom-coms, tragic love stories, crime and thrillers. Please note she is not the right agent for sci-fi, espionage novels, YA or children’s books. She signs both commercial and literary authors, and is always looking for a distinctive voice matched with a compelling plot. She also is especially drawn to darker stories that centre characters with tragic fates, dark pasts or buried trauma. She is also keen to find authors from underrepresented groups who can bring a fresh perspective to well-worn story arcs, or capture experiences shared by many but, as of yet, underexplored in fiction. She would love to see a commercial locked-room thriller in the vein of The Midnight Feast, The White Lotus or with shades of Succession; novels about cults such as The Girls; a voice-led serial-killer thriller reminiscent of How to Kill Your Family; compelling dark academia to rival The Secret History; a high-concept but tragic love story that will make her ugly cry in the vein of The Time Traveller’s Wife or One Day; and anything that has an outsider trying to break into the world of the privileged and morally bankrupt. Besides those above, her favourite novels include The List, The Talented Mr Ripley, The Lovely Bones, Other People’s Clothes, The It Girl, The Girl Before, Notes on an Execution, My Dark Vanessa and My Sister the Serial Killer. At HFX Training, we are passionate about business simulations because they bring learning to life through hands-on experience. This Level 1 Certification Program is the first step in our Instructor Training Certification Pathway, equipping you to confidently use the Healthcare Hero simulation in your teaching environment. In this program, you will experience the simulation as a student, navigating its complexities and dynamics. Upon successfully completing Level 1, you’ll be ready to advance to Level 2 Training, where you will deepen your expertise in simulation facilitation and administration. The program is cohort-based, and the timetable is coordinated in advance through discussions with the HFX team to ensure maximum participation. What to Expect: The Healthcare Hero simulation places you in charge of a fictional hospital. Over eight simulation rounds - each representing one quarter of business operations - you will make strategic decisions to optimize patient care while managing staffing, capacity, quality, and finances. Throughout the simulation, you’ll navigate challenges like healthcare and economic crises, all while balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders. Your ultimate goal is to outperform competing hospitals managed by other participants in the program. Program and Certification Requirements This program equips you to confidently lead the simulation by requiring more than attendance or participation. To earn certification, you must: Thoroughly Prepare: Review all instructional materials and the scenario manual before the course begins. Fully Participate: Attend all Zoom sessions and complete each simulation round with focus and effort. Demonstrate Mastery: Show a comprehensive understanding of the simulation’s dynamics, decision-making processes, and strategies during practice and live rounds. Engage in Reflection: Actively participate in debrief sessions, assess your performance, and identify strategies for improvement. This certification ensures you are equipped to facilitate this complex simulation with confidence. Auditing the course is an option, but participants who choose to audit will not receive certification. Program Format The program is delivered intensively over one or more Zoom sessions, totaling six hours. This compressed format demands your full attention and focus to successfully navigate the simulation’s complexities. Eligibility Requirements: By registering for this training program, you acknowledge the following: You have discussed your needs with the HFX team and confirmed that the simulation aligns with your class or program objectives. You are an instructor at an academic institution. You agree to the confidentiality terms and commit not to distribute, disclose, or replicate any program content for purposes outside of this training. This program is offered in goodwill to academic instructors as a resource to enhance their teaching. As part of this agreement, you understand that all materials, including the simulation itself, are proprietary to HFX and its partners. Any use of these materials for purposes beyond this program, such as developing similar tools or simulations, is strictly prohibited. Course Structure: After registering, you will gain immediate access to the simulation’s instructional materials. This includes: The Scenario Manual: Your guide to understanding the game. The Capacity Planner Worksheet and Financial Planning Worksheet: Tools to help you strategize. The Strategy Planning Exercise: Designed to align your decisions with overall objectives. The Portal Guide: A walkthrough of the simulation platform. The program unfolds in four key phases: Phase 1: Pre Zoom Call / Study / Set Up Register using the button at the bottom of this page. Review the instructional materials thoroughly. Once the cohort is finalized, you will be sent your login credentials for the simulation itself. Try to submit decisions for the first practice round using the simulation portal at www.simulationportal.com. Phase 2: Play We run two practice rounds over the first 2 hours of the zoom call. This allows you to familiarize yourself with the platform and decision-making process, and think through what your strategy might be in the live game. The simulation resets ("zeroed") after the practice rounds. A brief session will clarify lessons learned and expectations for the live rounds. Over eight rounds, you’ll compete against other participants while refining your strategic decisions. Phase 3: Feedback Reflect on your performance during a structured debrief, including: Strengths and areas for improvement. Insights into competitors’ strategies. Strategic lessons learned, and applicability to local healthcare organizations. Phase 4: Implementation Planning Work with the HFX team to plan your first application of the simulation in a teaching environment. Certification Outcome Upon completing this program, you will earn the HFX Instructor Training Certification: Level One, signifying your expertise in conducting impactful simulation-based training using Healthcare Hero.

LOOKING FOR: PICTURE BOOKS / CHAPTER BOOKS / MG / YA / NEW ADULT inc GRAPHIC NOVELS Gyamfia Osei joined ANA in 2023 as a Literary Agent in the UK department. She was previously an agent at The Good Literary Agency, where she began building her list of authors. Recent successes include a ‘significant’ 6-figure pre-empt for Busayo Matuluko’s YA debut ‘Til Death, a 5-way auction for Quiet Storm by Kimberly Whittam and the shortlisting of Ebinehita Iyere’s Girlhood, Unfiltered at the 2023 British Book Awards. She was also a Bookseller Rising Star in 2024! At ANA, Gyamfia is focusing on developing the agency’s list of children’s authors, while also representing a bespoke list of commercial adult fiction and narrative non-fiction. In the Children’s space, Gyamfia would love to find contemporary stories that are full of heart and joy-driven books across all genres (think Clare Weze, Kimberly Whittam and Elle McNicoll). Funny middle-grade and YA horror are currently at the top of her list and she is also keen to read more teen projects (think Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging and Glow Up Lara Bloom) this year. She is very interested in finding a graphic novel or illustrated project for either MG or YA readers. In the older fiction space, Gyamfia enjoys well-plotted, fast-paced narratives with authentic characters who lodge themselves in her mind long after she’s finished reading (think Sadie, Verity and Girl A). She’s open to a broad range of genres, but would be particularly keen to see romantasy, cosy crime, contemporary romance and tightly plotted domestic noir. Please note that Gyamfia doesn’t consider literary fiction and, in the commercial space, she is not hugely interested in very high fantasy, trauma-focused stories or particularly gruesome horror. In the non-fiction space, she would be happy to consider commercial narrative non-fiction and cultural history projects (think Brit(ish), It’s Not That Radical and Everything I Know About Love). She is very open when it comes to Children’s non-fiction but would be particularly interested to consider unique cookbooks aimed at young chefs, books exploring mental health/wellness and projects that bring the experiences of marginalised children to the forefront. Gyamfia would like you to submit a covering letter, 1 page synopsis and the opening three chapters (max 5,000 words). For picture books please send two texts and a covering letter. Leisure and Health is a vital part of the broader health care sector. Participating in recreational activities is a wonderful way for older people to engage, interact, learn and maintain a level of enjoyment for life.

This course is aimed at health and social care staff who are both registered and unregistered, who work with or support individuals where safeguarding concerns are a possibility.

Community services refers to a broad range of programs and services that help people in need, including aged care, disability, youth work, drug and alcohol services, employment programs and more.

Person-centred approaches are a core skills framework that articulates what it means to be person-centred and how to develop and support the workforce to work in this way. Developed in partnership with Skills for Health and Skills for Care, the Framework aims to distil best practices and to set out core, transferable behaviours, knowledge and skills. It is applicable across services and sectors and across different types of organisations. Person-centred approaches underpins existing dementia, learning disabilities, mental health and end of life care core skills frameworks. This subject forms standard 5 in The Care Certificate.

The PAM® can make a valuable contribution to assessing a patient’s ability to self care at any given time. This assessment helps support next steps on what would be needed to increase their levels of knowledge, skills and confidence in order to improve their health and wellbeing outcomes. It can be used to tailor interventions to individual needs, significantly increasing the likelihood that people will adopt behaviours that contribute to better health. It can also help commissioners to make available the kinds of interventions needed, especially for those with low levels of activation who have most to gain.
