The three day course allows us to focus on the more refined shapes of a knife specifically designed for cooking, on this course we will forge a matched pair of knives, a small pairing knife and a larger kitchen knife both with a hidden tang and two part handle in the Wa style. The extended length of the course allows students to focus on getting a clean shape and flowing lines as well as a thing and practical blade for cooking. Please note this course is only held once a year. I run a strict cancellation policy. If you cannot attend the date you have booked please contact me within three weeks and I will rebook your course for free, If you contact me after this deadline you will lose your place. Refunds are not available. Courses dates can only be moved once. Courses valid for one year from date of purchase. A single day knife making course is a great way to make yourself an item that will last a lifetime, on this one day course we forge a small knife with a simple ash handle. A knife is one of the oldest tools ever made by humanity and it is one that invokes many emotions to people when they see and use it for a productive task. When doing a knife making course here at Bearded Pig Forge we will discuss the fine details of a knife and how they are made as well as the history of forging them. On the course you will learn the basics of forging a blade and heat treating them in order to get the best results from the high carbon steel, we will also be learning how to fit and shape handles by using a burn through technique to attach the blade to the handle. Courses are £165 Per person per day. I run a strict cancellation policy. Based right next to our world-famous Fire and Iron Gallery, in a pleasant semi-rural, historic setting, the courses are run and managed by Tom Quinnell. Our courses first took place back in 1996 and were set up by Richard Quinnell. Richard was a prime mover in the 1970s revival of the craft of artist blacksmithing in the UK, and he was awarded the MBE in 1989 for his contribution. Tom is Richard’s grandson, and he is the 5th generation to work at the site. After a successful 15-year career with Mercedes-Benz, Tom returned to work at Rowhurst Forge where he grew up and learned the craft from a very young age.

I was able to take on a forge at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet, a museum in Sheffield. In late 2015 I embarked on the well respected "Design and Forgework Skills" course at the National School of Blacksmithing in Hereford. I passed with distinction in July 2017.

Spike G Martin Blacksmith and Anvil Hog Bearded Pig forge is run by myself who having a long-standing interest in the history and craft of blacksmithing decided to pursue it as a career full time. My Journey into the amazing world of blacksmithing started with four basic course days with Ross Berry at Kaos Blacksmiths, after gaining a strong foundation from Ross I started to develop my skills at my own forge and anvil by practicing the items I had been shown how to make and then by making new pieces I began to find my own style. Over several years now I have continued to develop these methods and teach myself more about this fascinating craft, expanding my knowledge and practical skills, including branching into mixed medium work such as the knives and tooling I produce. The forge is based in the grounds of Quex park in Birchington a historical site and wonderful country estate.

Artist Blacksmith : Julian Wadsworth "The expression of our time now, through a medium of ancient significance." Welcome to the timeless world of metalwork and forgework. What is Blacksmithing? Blacksmithing is the craft where, by working the iron in its hot, plastic state it is possible to shape and transform what is normally considered a hard-edged material into an altogether softer, more fluid expression. From small fittings to larger architectural applications, ironwork may be designed and used to enrich both the visual and physical aspects of our environment. Commissions Whether public or private commissions, from design concept to full realisation, open communication and two way dialogue is welcome, as finer tuning of the design at early stages can often result in greater and more unusual detailing. It is here that iron working gives the chance for personal expression and thereby uniqueness in the detailing to the specific commission. It is the ART, or unison, that drives the CRAFT, and good craft enables full and lasting realisation. I use a wide variety of blacksmith and metal working techniques including hot forging processes, plate and sheet forming, repousse, rivetting, welding, pattern making for cast iron work and etching. Their appropriate application is determined by the type of work itself.

My name is Jacek Robotka and I am an artist and blacksmith originally from Tarnobrzeg, Poland. I am proficient in many different aspects of manufacturing crafts, from metalworking through to saddlery and woodcarving to antler craft, a skill that is ever rarer in our present times. Before I moved to Great Britain, I received a comprehensive education: I first trained at a trade school as a locksmith-mechanic, then at an automotive technical college, before earning a degree in Archaeology at the University of Lodz. In trade school I attended blacksmithing lessons, where my lifelong passion for metal crafting was born. I am always deepening my knowledge by looking for more information about historical metallurgy, survival, hunting, martial arts, fencing weapons and firearms, and their tactical use. My first artistic creations were made in a simple garage workshop over a decade and a half ago. Since then, my experience has been steadily growing and I have created many items which brought joy to enthusiasts of unique hand crafting. Some of these, including a number of knives and leather goods, are for modern use, but I have also crafted an impressive number of items recreated from historical finds like swords, seaxes and jewellery. My wide range of abilities makes me a hugely valuable specialist in the area of crafting unique and high-quality items; I am experienced in blacksmithing, metallurgy, welding, leather-, wood-, antler- and bone crafting, and also possess knowledge of blacksmithing, locksmithing and casting techniques as well as medieval item crafting techniques.

The Malham Smithy is the workshop of female blacksmith Annabelle Bradley, where she runs blacksmith experience days and designs and hand forges sculptural and functional wrought ironwork. Annabelle uses traditional blacksmithing techniques combined with contemporary design in producing decorative items for the home and garden. The Malham Smithy is situated in the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales village of Malham and has a gallery area displaying wrought ironwork as well as a viewing area to be able to watch Annabelle at work on the traditional coke forge, if you are looking for things to do in Malham or the Yorkshire Dales, come and visit the historic Malham Smithy, suitable leisure entertainment for families, old and young. A small selection of hand forged items such as candle sconces, companion sets and hooks etc. are available to purchase from the gallery, you can also take the opportunity to discuss commissions for bespoke designs, or book a session to forge your own piece of hand crafted art. The Malham Smithy was bequeathed to the Parish Church by Artist Blacksmith Bill Wild in the early 1980's, and has ever since been leased out by the Church as a traditional blacksmiths workshop. In February 2007, Annabelle Bradley was given the opportunity to work from the Malham Smithy and continues to this day keeping this beautiful Yorkshire Dales village heritage alive. Annabelle has featured on Countryfile with Anita Rani, Julia Bradbury's Unforgettable Walks, The Dales with Adrian Edmondson, Back to the Land with Kate Humble, The One Show with Alex Jones, Escape to the Country, Craig and Bruno's Great British Roads Trips, Channel 5 at the Great Yorkshire Show with Julian Norton and Jules Hudson, The Dales and the Lakes, and featured in books about the Dales and magazine articles including Period Living. Anvilsring Ironwork is run by Colin White FWCF, over 40 years as a Master Farrier and winner of numerous Wrought Ironwork competitions. Now retired from horseshoing Colin gives numerous blacksmithing demonstrations at country shows and plays in the forge making small items of ironwork, country kitchen type hooks and hangers, fire irons etc. Located outside the village of Scorton, Lancs, between Lancaster and Preston the forge is well equipped, coke and gas forges fly press, power hammer, welding equipment.
