LOOKING FOR: ADULT FICTION / NON-FICTION Ciara McEllin is building her list as a Junior Agent at Watson Little. She reads widely across book club, upmarket and literary fiction. Within these areas, she is drawn to novels that examine family and relationship dynamics, sexuality, identity, and vulnerability. Ciara is keen to hear from writers who take a fresh approach to these themes, whether that be a new perspective on a traditional narrative or a focus on characters and voices that remain underrepresented: think Kairos by Jenny Erpenbeck, Asymmetry by Lisa Halliday or Monkey Grip by Helen Garner. She will always want to read beautifully written novels with a strong sense of place, tangible characters and an essence that stays with you – living deep in your bones – long after you’ve finished reading. Recent reads Ciara has enjoyed include: Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry, Enter Ghost by Isabella Hammad, Close to Home by Michael Magee, Siblings by Brigitte Reimann, Trespasses by Louise Kennedy, The Idiot by Elif Batuman, Highway Blue by Ailsa McFarlane and My Phantoms by Gwendoline Riley. At the moment Ciara is particularly eager to see: - Sexy, sensual and seductive stories that explore desire and sexual boundaries not often represented in literature such as Little Rabbit by Alyssa Songsiridej, Cleanness by Garth Greenwell and Mrs. S by K Patrick - An atmospheric and existential thriller in the vein of Intimacies by Katie Kitamura, In The Cut by Susanna Moore and Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk - An intoxicating coming of-age-tale that captures the aliveness, intelligence and wildness of girlhood like Brutes by Dizz Tate, The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides and The Girls by Emma Cline - Books that are joyful or brutal, particularly those that are both, similar to Headshot by Rita Bullwinkel, Kick the Latch by Kathryn Scanlan and Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan - Stories exploring an Australia or Ireland that is rarely seen in literature for example A Loving, Faithful Animal by Josephine Rowe and Wild Houses by Colin Barrett In non-fiction, Ciara enjoys narrative, memoir and essay collections. She is interested in hearing from experts, academics, critics and journalists writing about society, culture and food, and excited by writers seeking to revise, reshape or revolutionise the conversation in their area of expertise. Some of her favourite non-fiction titles include How To Survive A Plague by David France, The Transgender Issue by Shon Faye, the Living Autobiography Series by Deborah Levy, Last Witnesses: Unchildlike Stories by Svetlana Alexievich, King Kong Theory by Virginie Despentes; and she particularly enjoys the work of M.F.K Fisher, Annie Ernaux, Natalia Ginsburg and Helen Garner. Ciara is not looking for Children’s, YA or Fantasy. Ciara would like you to submit a covering letter, 1 -2 page synopsis and the first 5,000 words of your completed manuscript in a single word document. (In addition to the paid sessions, Ciara is kindly offering one free session for low income/under-represented writers. Please email agent121@iaminprint.co.uk to apply, outlining your case for this option which is offered at the discretion of I Am In Print). By booking you understand you need to conduct an internet connection test with I Am In Print prior to the event. You also agree to email your material in one document to reach I Am In Print by the stated submission deadline and note that I Am In Print take no responsibility for the advice received during your agent meeting. About this Training Course Well interventions have a large opportunity to enhance well production if correctly designed and implemented. Conversely, they can have a large negative impact on production if they're not. The Well Intervention & Productivity School (WIPS) is designed to help well intervention specialists, well service supervisors, and petroleum engineers become more aware of the problems that can arise in the planning and execution of well interventions. This 5 full-day course is designed to make those that attend aware of how their job can directly impact the productivity. Early identification of problems in wells and effective interventions to fix problems can have a significant impact by minimising lost oil through formation damage and non productive time. As well as discussing best practice, time will be made available for discussion relating to specific problems that may be affecting fields operated by members of the class. The course is a mixture of informal teaching and lectures. In addition, group exercises are used to reinforce the subjects covered during the lectures. This encourages cross discipline awareness, communication and motivates team building. The course has recently been updated in the areas of Subsea and HPHT interventions. This course can also be offered through Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) format. Training Objectives Upon completion of this course, the participants will be able to: Identify the main reasons for performing well interventions. Identify the main formation damage mechanisms and understand how to prevent them. Improve your knowledge and understanding of well barriers. Improve your knowledge of pumping and stimulation operations. Improve your knowledge of wireline, coiled tubing and hydraulic workover operations. Target Audience The course is aimed at all engineers and contractors involved in the planning and execution of well interventions. This is a school where engineers and supervisors can hone their skills, especially at a time when increased production is a high priority. In the past, course attendees have been a mix of Petroleum engineers, Well Intervention engineers, Reservoir and Drilling engineers, Production Operators, Wellsite supervisors, as well as Geologists. In recent years, delegates have come from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds. Experience before coming on the course has varied from no field experience and no experience of planning and programming well interventions through to many years working in well interventions. In order to be able to best adapt the course to the delegates expectations, you will be required to submit a pre-course questionnaire upon submission of your registration. Course Level Intermediate Trainer Your expert course leader has over 40 years in the oil industry. During that time, he has worked exclusively in well intervention and completions. After a number of years working for intervention service companies (mostly slickline), he joined BP as an offshore well service supervisor. He was responsible for the day-to-day supervision of well intervention work on many of BP's North Sea platforms and subsea wells. This included coil tubing, e-line, slickline, stimulation and well test operations. An office-based role as a well operations engineer followed. He was responsible for planning, programming and organising of all the well intervention work on the Bruce and later the Magnus fields. In 1995, he moved into completion design. Since then, he has designed many platform and sub-sea completions, often travelling to the rig site to oversee the installation. In addition to his day-to-day work as a completion engineer, he regularly teaches completion and well intervention courses all over the world. He is also the author of the book, Well Control for Completions and Interventions, Gulf Publishing - April 2018. He has also appeared as an expert witness ant the International Court of Arbitration. About this training course This 3-days training will provide a comprehensive review of integrity of wells exposed to carbon dioxide (CO2) in the context of Carbon Capture Utilization for enhanced oil recovery and Storage (CCUS). CO2 geological storage is a proven technology to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from sources such as coal power plants, cement kilns and steel mills. Wells are widely considered the most critical containment element, especially older wells that are not used to inject CO2 or monitor the plume evolution in the storage reservoir. The main reason for this perceived risk is the high corrosion rate of carbon steel when exposed to wet CO2, and the tendency of Portland cement to react with the gas. The training course advanced contents build on 15 years' experience in carbon storage, both in the development and deployment of technologies. First-hand, in-depth knowledge of the subject will allow us to debunk myths and focus on the real challenges of wells encountering CO2. Training Objectives After the completion of this training course, participants will be able to: Explain the CCUS market drivers Examine the behavior of CO2, on surface and in the reservoir Diagnose cement defects and design repairs Understand the limits of Portland cement Assess the benefits of different technologies and materials Realize why geology is a dominant factor in cement performance Critically choose the most appropriate monitoring techniques Classify aging processes of cement, steel, and rock when exposed to CO2 Assess the risk of existing wells if they encounter the CO2 plume Examine recent advances in real-time approaches to the production monitoring and lift management Target Audience This training course is suitable and will greatly benefit: All surface technical personnel such as process engineers & technologists Facility engineers, production engineers & technologists Drilling engineers and Well engineers Design engineers and Integrity engineers P&A engineers and Cementing engineers Geologists Senior management executives will benefit from this training as covers an overview of the technical and commercial details of CO2 capture technologies and risks involved. Course Level Intermediate Training Methods The training instructor relies on a highly interactive training method to enhance the learning process.
