Learn the skills of a Crime Scene Investigator ... Explore the exciting world of the Forensic Investigator in this unforgettable interactive experience day. You will spend the day using real forensic methods and techniques to perform a range of established crime scene investigations. All investigations that you perform are "hands-on", giving you the opportunity to learn how these procedures work in real life. Your day will include: DRUG TESTING: Perform a drugs test! The suspect was carrying a small plastic bag of a white substance when arrested. He was known to police as a cocaine dealer. Was he carrying cocaine? Carry out chemical tests to establish if the white powder was cocaine? FINGERPRINTING: Learn how to lift and record fingerprints using the conventional dusting process to detect and preserve fingerprints. MICROSCOPY: Use a light microscope to forensically examine crime scene samples. Discover how to use different magnifying powers to optimise the results. FABRIC SAMPLE ANALYSIS: Compare samples collected at the crime scene and on the suspect to identify human hairs. SOIL ANALYSIS: Analyse soil samples collected from the crime scene and compare against soil recovered from the suspect's shoes. Identify which soil sample is common between both crime scene and suspect. Use chemical tests to confirm your results. TOOL MARK IDENTIFICATION: You have a known tool impression from the crime scene. Use forensic casting techniques to create clay impressions and compare with a range of tools recovered from the suspect's tool shed. Which tool did he use? BLOOD DETECTION: Blood-like stains were found at the crime scene. Before sending samples to the forensic lab we need to establish if they are blood samples. Use established forensic tests and procedures to identify blood spots and stains that may not be visible to the naked eye. DNA EXTRACTION: Perform an extraction procedure to extract DNA from samples provided. You will be able to see (and feel) actual DNA once you have completed the process! This is a practical 2-day group tuition during which you will receive an overview of basic leather craft and hand sewing skills and techniques and create your own hand-sewn leather bag to take home with you.The class will take place in our London workshop, where you will see how a leather craft studio is equipped and receive practical demonstrations of common leather and bag-making methods.You will be able to choose your project from a selection of different medium-sized bags. You will also be able to pick the leather type, color and hardware you prefer from our stock. All our leathers are beautiful, rescued Italian vegetable-tanned leather from leading tanneries and fashion brands.You will receive an introduction to leather types, including how to mark, cut, edge finish, and hand sew leather using saddle stitching, as well as apply simple fastening hardware. Relevant, useful, and informative handouts and lists of leather and tool suppliers will be provided.At the end of the tuition, you will have:– Gained an understanding of leather types and tanning methods– Been instructed on the use of common fastenings and closure techniques– Received an overview of the correct use of tools for preparing, marking, cutting and punching leather– Learned how to use, read and place patterns– Learned how to saddle stitch leather and understood the different tools and materials used in the technique– Understood and practiced leather craft techniques such as beveling and burnishing– Created your own hand-stitched leather bag to take home with you.   ABOUT THE FINAL PROJECT:The final bag you will create will be a small or medium-sized leather bag from a choice of designs. An Introduction course is a great way to learn about the amazing craft of blacksmithing. The course will teach you the basics of forging and making decorative work for your home, and you will have something you have made to take home with you and enjoy.  On the course we will make a number of small items, including hooks, key rings, pendants, candle holders and others based on time available. This course is open for 12-17 year olds and will be taught on a one-to-one basis allowing the student to fully immerse themselves in the craft. Parent or guardian MUST attend and may join in the course for a fee. Courses are £200 per day A second student or the parent/guardian can be join the course for £100  I run a strict cancellation policy. If you cannot attend the date you have booked please contact me within three weeks and I will rebook your course for free, If you contact me after this deadline you will lose your place.
