The Autism Training Network was established following an identified need for quality support and training for a range of settings across the UK. Our clients range from health and social care settings, to charity and voluntary organisations through to businesses and public service companies. Over the last decade there has been an increase in the research and development of our understanding of neurodivergence conditions such as Autism, Tourettes and ADHD (to name but a few!) and with this increase, there are more and more individuals who are self-identifying or who are being diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This left a massive shortfall in the knowledge and understanding of how to support someone or even just be comfortable around neurodivergent people. We believe that everyday is an opportunity to learn and our team are consistently undertaking further learning and training to enhance their knowledge and experiences to better facilitate training and learning opportunities. Our team has worked with some incredible people in the UK and the feedback that we have received has been testament in itself that we are supporting to make a change to how neurodivergence is seen. We are excited to announce that we are now CPD UK members!

This means parent workshops, training sessions, drop-in support groups, play events, family days out, direct information sharing, help with forms and applications, and when it comes down to it - a listening ear and loads of understanding. You want the best for your child. You want to know they have been able to reach their fullest potential. My motto ‘no child left behind’ resonates with all families who have faced delays or denials to services. I taught for over 17 years and was a Head of Year to over 360 children, but I left my mainstream position to forge a better pathway when my son was 12 weeks old: I’ve not looked back since. During the pandemic I witnessed many children suffering with speech regression, especially my autistic families. I decided to undertake training in Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy for which I obtained a ‘High Distinction’ and in 2021 I successfully completed a MSc in Psychology (specialising in SEN) which informs my work. I am also registered with the BPS (British Psychological Society). Recently, ‘The Learn to Shine school’ appeared on the BBC after winning the ‘Making a Difference’ BBC award. I have extensive experience of working with and supporting children with Autism, PDA, foetal alcohol syndrome, Selective Mutism, ADHD, Dyslexia, complex emotional and behavioural difficulties, with significant results. It is essential to me that your child is nurtured as an individual, and given the correct tools for the rest of their life. I support numerous companies as an SEN consultant and currently advise Talent management The YMU group on neurodiversity. I am often interviewed for magazines and radio stations on SEN matters and want to dispel the myths out there! I created ‘Learn to Shine school CIC’ around the birth of my own little boy and girl. I know how hard parenting can be, and the challenges families face in the world of education, My passion is to enable every child, including my own, to be able to ‘Shine’.

Kerry is a dedicated and passionate Occupational Therapist and Sensory Integration Practitioner. She believes all children including those with additional needs should have the same opportunities to meet their potential. Kerry established FreshStart Kids Therapy in 2018, she has over 15 years NHS experience within autism, learning disability, children’s, and neurological services. Kerry specialises in working with children and young people facing barriers to education. Kerry's assessment reports have often been used as evidence to gain EHCPs for children, provision within existing plans or to provide evidence for accommodations in school for children who have SEN needs. FreshStart Kids Therapy work with several associate therapists across the region to deliver a high-quality service.
