This course will introduce you to the beautiful world of colour analogue photography. Taking as a starting point the work of contemporary photographic artists working with colour, we will discuss and explore theory as well as developing core skills essential for the capture and printing of your own colour images. You will learn how to correctly expose colour negative film and learn more about the characteristics of different types of film and the effects that they can have on an image. Within Stills’ darkrooms you will learn how to process your colour film by hand and print high quality analogue C-Type prints. Day 1 Morning: Colour Theory, Inspiration and Refresher for SLR Camera Controls During the morning we will be looking at contemporary photographers and artists that have used colour to inform their practice in specific ways. We will look at the ways in which colour revolutionized the artworld and vernacular photography. We will also look at basic colour theory, exploring which colours compliment each other and why. We will also refresh basic camera controls, load cameras and head out to the streets to shoot a roll of film. Afternoon: Colour Film Processing During this session, you will learn how to hand process your colour film. We will discuss the loading of the tank and the preparation of the machine to ensure correct processing temperature. We will look at different film types, why you may want to use them and the range of effects that can be produced. Day 2 Morning: Introducing the Colour Darkroom and Contact Sheets You will be introduced to Stills colour darkooms and become familiarised with the range of equipment you will be using. You will be taught how to set up your darkroom for printing, how the colour print processor works and how to print a contact sheet for viewing your negatives. Afternoon: Printing In the afternoon you will be expected to make a series of final C-Type prints. You will be shown techniques to improve your printing skills and produce the images you desire. This last session will allow you time to print with some one-to-one attention. We will discuss some printing techniques to help you get the most from your negatives. We will also have time at the end of the day to look back on all the work produced over the course and discuss it in relation to theory we learnt at the beginning. By the end of the course you will have: Learned more about colour theory and have a knowledge of contemporary artists working with colour photography Learned to process your own colour film Experimented with a variety of specialised darkroom printing techniques Printed contact sheets and a collection of colour photographs Feel confident in a colour darkroom using specialist equipment   Courses are subject to minimum enrolment. Please register early, within five days of the start date, to reduce the likelihood of course cancellation. This one day silver bangle making course lead by jeweller Kirsten Hendrich will introduce you skills and techniques required to design and make your own silver sterling bangles. You will learn how to size bangles, how to solder, texture the metal, cut out a charm, and also polish your designs. You will be provided with all the silver required to make two stacking bangles and a charm to accompany them. This is an excellent starting project for a beginner. For those with more experience, it is an opportunity to develop your skills further. WHEN: Sunday 8th December 10-5pm WHERE:  Workshop 925 based at The Mayford Centre, just outside of Woking and very close to Guildford. Unit F9 The Mayford Centre, Mayford Green Woking, Surrey  GU22 0PP TUTOR: Amy Hubbard WHAT DOES THE DAY INVOLVE? WHAT TO BRING: For safety reasons, at each session closed in shoes must be worn and long hair tied back, we also suggest wearing old clothes. From cutting, shaping and texturing the silver, through to soldering and polishing. You will create each link and a T bar clasp. This is a fantastic project to help you learn or improve your soldering skills, and a great introduction to jewellery making. WHEN: Saturday 16th November 10-5pm WHERE:  Workshop 925 based at The Mayford Centre, just outside of Woking and very close to Guildford. Unit F9 The Mayford Centre, Mayford Green Woking, Surrey  GU22 0PP TUTOR: Kirsten Hendrich WHAT DOES THE DAY INVOLVE? Create your very own silver chain bracelet during this day workshop. We will guide you through all the processes involved in creating your own design. From cutting, shaping and texturing the silver, through to soldering and polishing. You will create each link and a T bar clasp. This is a fantastic project to help you learn or improve your soldering skills. If you are looking for some inspiration, we have created a Pinterest board to help inspire some ideas. You will be provided with 1.2mm thick wire for your links. We work really hard to make sure our students love what they create, so if you have a chunkier design idea in mind, please get in touch as the material costs increase and it can be more difficult to create thicker links, so we just need to check it is achievable within the time frame. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: None, all abilities are welcomed. We support you throughout the session and provide demonstrations to show you the techniques and steps needed to create your own chain bracelet from start to finish. Our small classes mean we are able to provide each student with the support they require. Students must be 16+ Students aged 14 or 15 are able to attend if accompanied by an adult. CLASS SIZE: 7 WHAT IS INCLUDED? All tools and consumables are supplied. The cost of this course includes materials. YOU WILL BE PROVIDED WITH: 10cm of 2mm round wire to create your clasp 1.5 metres of 1.2mm silver round wire for your bracelet links If you wish to purchase additional silver to create alternative link thicknesses (should time allow), we stock silver which you are able to purchase on the day but please run your ideas through with us first by emailing hello@workshop925.com WHAT TO BRING: For safety reasons, during each class, you are required to wear appropriate footwear, we request that no open toed shoes are worn within Workshop 925. Long hair should also be tied back when working with the equipment. You may also wish to bring a notebook. We have handouts for many demonstrations, but there are always many tips and tricks given verbally by the tutor, which some might like to keep note of. Please bring any PPE, snacks and drinks to each session. We have a microwave, kettle and fridge to store or cook your lunch choices.
